As promised - here is my feedback. My master was in fact a fairly good one but... I cannot compare my results with the one from Streaky - very impressive results as well as being very quick and efficient - BIG THANK YOU Streaky for your great job. I will be using you again. The master from Streaky was 3-4 RMS louder that main but also sounded more open and pleasant compared to my mix. Love it. Thanks again!

When LANDR came out there was a panic among the moderately priced mastering engineers but the people who use it have no budget for mastering so it competes with them even less than Ozone, Waves, etc - and it prevents those people picking up mastering skills which actually reduces competition. I did master an album where the client tried some LANDR and it was fun showing I could do better (especially with my compressors tweaked to enhance the detail and emphasize the beat). Though there was one track where LANDR had something good going in the lower mids that I couldn't quite match - that off-the-shelf suit was a great fit around the waist even though there was too much padding in the shoulders and it had a saggy bum!

In response to your questions: people use online mastering because they just cant afford to have guys like streaky to do it for them.. and people dont use OZONE because they dont have the technical knowledge to use it properly. Just to clear up I personally use OZONE and tailor it to my source, its ok for a quick mix master. I guess the bottom line is here guys is most non commercial release stuff these days doesnt really need top dollar analog mastering.. its going on spotify and itunes, soundcloud ect..... sad thing is most of the people that listen to it on these platforms wont be able to tell the difference or simply dont care where it was mastered. the MP3, Streaming online generation do not know any different.

I find EMastered a good option for its customisation facility - compression level, EQ intensity, loudness, stereo width etc. So, like getting a solid reference track, you get the basic result and then have some fun with the EMastered tweaks. After that, no reason you can't take your Master into your Logic Pro or whatever for real fine tuning. I agree with our friends here that a raw AI Master is seldom bang-on. Algorithms can never guess what you want as well as human ears - whether those are your own ears or of a pro mastering engineer. I'd say thay AI can be used as a handy foundation tool for a little extra legwork by the producer.

Answer is NO for most of the musicians, YES for limited budgets, YES for use as emergency backup solution, or if You are in absolutely hurry.
What absolutely annoying about robot mastering: too much marketing BS behind them!
and the results always sounds a same... Nothing sophisticated. For first listen, sounds like a soft limiter with some kind of auto EQ, or 3 band compressor.
We made a test with -6 db white and pink noise... well, I don’t wanna destroy their business, but the results are sooo funny :))) we got back a 12% distortion, a smiling spectrum character but with missing low ends, and horrible phase errors. This is how the robot analyzed this kind of “music”.

the mastering assistant in ozone 8 is basically landr which i can then modify as i see fit. now that they have that feature landr is just unneeded in ANY instance. i am not a professional and record music for fun and simply cannot afford to pay a mastering engineer for every track or remix i produce. if i could i certainly would, but i can't.

I would think it also depends on the market and industry your working in? club music esp dance genres generally have a very unpersonalised sound, it can sound quite cookie cutter and generic when listening to top ten best sellers on beatport etc and some of those markets almost encourage that sound. so this sort of service probably wouldn't be a bad idea for that?...

Kind of a weird argument all mastering engineers have which is why buy a regular car when you buy a Ferrari. If the prices were the same then you'd have a point but up until now, pre landr, all the potential landr customers were just trying their best to master their stuff themselves because they can't afford the $100 or thousands it costs to get a professional to master every one of their tracks.
Also these less top end composers tend to finish their track, master it and then perhaps a month later they learn a bit more about mixing and want to do it all again. With landr they can master it again and again easily but with a pro mastering engineer you'd surely have to fork out the money again.

This is so typical of England engineers-- they talk too fast, and talk too much and just too chatty-- it takes them 100 words to say what can be said in 20 words. I was hoping to hear a well structured critique of Lander, Cloudbounce, Ozone 9, Emastered and see a table with time stamps of each product critique that is well thought out---these guys are winging a poorly designed critique that could be written and executed much better. Whew--these guys will wear you out like a room fully of overly chatting women talking too fast.

Interesting viewpoints :) Im about to use cloudbounce for some tracks, and the decision is 100% down to budget. I dont have the knowledge of mastering, and i dont intend to learn it at this point in my life, so cloudbounce is a very handy solution for me/anyone in my position. I could wait till i have the excess money to be able to pay a mastering engineer, but that will slow down the release process, and thats the last thing you want when you're in the flow of creating and releasing music!

True that mate, I actually really like cloudbounce and of course see a slight difference when having an actual person master it, but, in all fairness, not as much as I'd have thought originally. Naturally mastering engineers wont be too happy at losing out on revenue by having a cheaper alternative do what they do for customers quicker, hence why I'm sure there will be plenty of distaste online. Just my 2 cents!

def made me think more on where to get done...though the way you talk about this mastering engineer telling you where you need to chance in the mix....over the years when first was not as experienced in mixing they would never come back with advice...it would just get mastered and thats it done. money taken and onto next..

If I was starting out, I would use Landr, Ozone, Lurssen plugin. If I was selling lots of music, I would use a Mastering Engineer.

I recommend you use LandR for a song. Then take that "mastered" file and run it through LandR again. Then you will find that it's all just a big ol' scam. There's no analyzing, it's just smack on a preset whatever the source is.
So no, I'm not their biggest fan.

I have sent one of my own mastered track to LANDR out of curiosity since I was aware about it for a while. Wow- the mastered version sounded exactly the same as the original including levels and tonal balance etc. I am still not fully happy with my mix as to me it feels a bit tight. I will get in touch with Streaky to see what he could do and let you guys know how it worked.

It depends why you make music. If you view music as a product and mastering as just a process, then you’re likely to want to get it done as cheaply as possible, mass-production stylee. If you view it as a piece of art, then it’s not a product, it’s all about emotion. Computers rely on pre-existing data (which we can easily replicate with Ozone presets that we can at least tweak) to make decisions, so you’re never going to get interesting, creative interpretations that way. Just a generic, off-the-shelf suit as you put it. Cool for someone who doesn’t care about their job and just needs to get paid, but not so good if it’s something you really care about.

I am with you both tbh. I find these online mastering services to be good for getting the name of mastering out there to people that might not know much or anything about it. Also it can be good for people with very limited amount of money, but want just something to finish up their tracks. I would never use it as a final version, basically because of all the reasons you just said in the video. It's like preparing a beautiful expensive steak (a mix you have been working hard on for a long time)...and then splash ketchup all over it (Landr). It doesnt make sence to me to put so much effort into your "art" and then send it of to a service like that. Then it is way better to get a couple of plugins ..do some research and start learning instead. I have toned down my mastering chain a lot and now i basically just use 3 plugins + 2 limiters. Works far better than Landr.

This was a great video, I totally agree. I prefer the human element in the mastering process. Music is about feeling just as must as it is about hearing. Computers mastering to me will fall flat because of this.

I can hear analog a mile away. Its rounder and warmer. Im currently using T-racks, never presets though because it sounds like shit. Im always experimenting. Cant wait for the day I can have my tracks processed through analog gear. Ive used landr once and I didn't like it!

Could be seen as a good demo mastering technique... Nothing you'd want on a full release, but *might* be a way of getting some gloss on something a bit rough?

I like Cloudbounce the most if have to choose. But Mastering should be done by a Mastering Engineer as they solve problems and can give feedback. Maybe people should try “A.A.M.S” auto Mastering to me personally better then online mastering. Cheers.

King Ech When the ones and zeros represent code then no, they will never replace the human ears, but when they represent $$$ then yes they can which is why they are in business. It will always be an option for those with little to no money to spend or are just starting to put out music and want to be heard.

    Salut
    Great video
I sent a track to a mastering online service company and I think they used Landr or one of them to master the track
I called them and the person told me he does not know what they did because they did send the track to another guy and he cannot certified the track has been mastered by a human
    At least he was sincer

I think it's lame how some artists will be so picky about the recording process and the mix but then when it comes to mastering, they are somehow okay with chucking the album through LANDR and calling it a day. It just doesn't make sense to me. None of their favorite artists or songs use LANDR so why do they use it? It will never replace true human mastering until someone like Beyonce uses it imo.
