  • We are working with Campbelltown City Council, the University of Sydney and Habitat Innovation and Management to investigate artificial and supplementary hollows for Gang-gang Cockatoos and other hollow nesting birds.
Our honours student Liam Doherty has been observing a host of different species using these both natural and artificial hollows. Here is a Southern Boobook checking out one of the Habitech modular boxes designed for Gang-gang Cockatoos.

    Is this an owl house?
Not a bad idea. There is so little information I don't know what's going on. Where, when, who,... You know, basic journalistic criteria would help.

Hi! We included some basic information in the caption above. This is a part of a pilot we are conducting trialling a host of different artificial and supplementary hollows (chainsaw hollows, supplementary logs, modular 3D plastic boxes plus natural hollows on site). Examining if we can supplement urban bushland for Gang-gang cockatoos and whether these features are equivalent to natural hollows in terms of temperature and humidity. The modular box featured above was installed for GG's but we have had a host of species inspecting them (and in one case Australian Wood Ducks using one).
Full details and methodology are part of the student's research and we will be sharing more interesting footage as it comes to hand ahead of the full findings.
