- When tawny owls Bonnie & Ozzy brought up four baby owlets it was the largest brood this pair had ever raised and a record for tawny owls in this area. Finding enough food wasn't their only challenge, the pair also had to contend with dangerous jackdaw invasions.

ABOUT THIS FILM

Tawny owl nest challenge
As Bonnie incubates her large clutch of eggs, she is battered by unseasonable weather. She sits tight on her clutch, keeping her eggs warm as blizzards blow into her nest.
Owl pair
Her devoted partner Ozzy brings in regular food deliveries - often more than she needs. She stashes any spare into a food larder which she will later rely on to feed her hungry chicks. It's possible the pair know that the eggs are due to hatch.
Eggs hatch
After almost a month of incubation, the eggs begin to hatch. The process is fascinating. It begins with a pip, then a crack, then the chicks appear, their feathers still damp. Bonnie is very protective and won't even let Ozzy near, so these glimpses of her young owl chicks are very rare.
Chicks' first feed
At just one day old the chicks get their first feed and Ozzy steps up his deliveries. There are a lot of mouths to feed in this super brood.
Jackdaw attack
But right now this is the least of the owl pair's worries. Jackdaws are looking for somewhere to nest and have set their sights on their home. A flock of jackdaws is known as a murder, and there's a reason for that. These birds will fill a nest with sticks, trap birds inside and bury them alive.
Short respite
Thankfully the jackdaws move away before Bonnie and her chicks are harmed, leaving a mess of sticks in their wake. Bonnie heads to the pond to clean off. An owl nest can get messy and it's important she has some time to herself.
Jackdaws return
But Bonnie's rest is short, by morning the jackdaws return and are intent on taking over the nest. They throw more sticks onto the tawny owl and her chicks until finally Bonnie heads to the entrance to scare them off. It is risky leaving her chicks but they are a little older now.
Owlets grow fast
At one week old these tawny owlets can sit up, but their eyes are still closed. In days they become so big Bonnie struggles to brood them and looks like she's crowd surfing when she spreads her wings over them. During their first week their feathers also begin to come through, looking like pins as they pierce the skin, and by two-weeks old their eyes open and they can stand up.
Extra support
By now the growing owlets seem to be continually clamouring for more food. I become concerned that Ozzy can't keep up, so I leave a few mice to help the owl family out. They thrive and it isn't long before they've almost grown as big as their owl mum Bonnie.

I wish Bonnie had made a nest in one of your stumps this year so we could watch her, but we always have Luna.
Wherever Bonnie and Ozzie decided to nest this year, I hope they and their brood this year are doing well. ❤️🦉
Amen
Same! Bonnie and Ozzie was what brought me to this channel last year!
Hi....gorgeous names suite those puffy and very brave winged parents:did you call them thanks to ozzy osborne and bonnie tyler?
Luna is a gorgeous name too...and thanks for sharing those interesting clips
Aww, they're so fluffy
Wild animals being this fluffy and cute is so unfair, I wish I could cuddle and pet them. 😭
Love the white fluffy
So ugly they are 😍 beautiful...thanku for film
I 'd like to cuddle them...but they sure don't like to live in the house...of course
OZZIE is such a provider...❤
Watching the mother feed the babies is without a doubt my favourite part. Just the care she takes with them is just so great to watch
Why do owlets not fight with siblings for food like the kestrels do???
My guess is that it would be easier for the parent to feed every baby if they aren’t competing and getting in the way constantly like the kestrels do.
Those pesky jackdaws! 😾
I don’t usually watch nature movies because they tend to focus on gruesome cruelties. This one is nice and I loved to see you helping out with extra mice!
This place is the Jurassic park for rodents, so many raptor families lives here
She looks so suspicious sometimes when she faces the camera
Edit.. I love the way her tail pops up in the air when she sits on the babies
Have you seen her on my live cam. She is snuggled down on her 4 eggs at the moment - ruclips.net/video/9RexE3evpCA/видео.html
I've always been amused by Ozzie making Bonnie claim that rat from him at around 9:00. It's like he was saying "if you won't let me see the babies you have to work for this"
Tawny Owl's are my favorite! The little chirps Bonnie calls out when feeding the chicks always melt my heart!
After all the turmoil and loss the other avian couples had in 2022, it's so cathartic to see Bonnie and Ozzy have a relatively normal time of it with their brood (even if theirs was a big bigger than usual lol).
Oh hey, you're right. I hadn't realised till now, but it's true that almost every other pair asides from Bonny and Ozzy faced massive losses. I think Apollo and Athena are the only others that had a normal-ish year. I've always thought Bonnie and Ozzy to be the "rock" of the channel, being a more steady, down to Earth, and reliable pair than the others. This past year (unfortunately) proved that to be true
These two make a great team, I hope their next brood goes well!
The jackdaws really seem to have it out for the tawny owls the most for some reason. Poor babies. ☹️ I’m so glad Robert is there to help them and the tawnys are such awesome parents.
🦉MOM=DAD🦉= 🦉🦉🦉🦉 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💙🤗
I am in tears as I watch this video because Bonnie is the name of my dog that recently passed away (I miss you my baby 😢), and of course seeing Bonnie successfully hatched 4 chicks.
Hopefully Luna's brood would be as successful as Bonnie's
I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending love from Memphis, TN.
Sending love from California ✊❤️💐
I'm sorry
I wonder what made Bonnie decide against AT this year 🤔 Was so sure she was going to re-nest there 🙃 Ah well.. thankful that we at least have Luna ^^ (🤞 her eggs all hatch)
Bless Ozzy ❤
So delightful to see the young family and loving parents! Equally delightful to indeerstand the nests are under your and your team of bird lover's protection... Bonnie and the chick's would probably be buried by those black birds' murder.... Thank you, Robert!!!!
SO so so sweet!!!! And the other little birds checking in on them and seeing the little owls!!! Precious!
The way she looks at the camera just warms my heart
When he realized they hatched and went lff and went an got a bunch of food! Amazing!
Amazing so lovely to watch. Bonnie is doing a great job.
Thank you for the beautiful family story of Bonnie, Ozzy and the kids. Beautifully filmed and told like a fairy tale.
Precious! 🥀🐆
❤ your videos, Robert. About 15/16yrs ago I went with my hubby, a pal of his plus our dog 🐕🦺Buck a walk & got a 👍🏻 surprise. The place we were looks out to the Clyde Coast near the North Ayrshire town of Largs. My hubby’s pal knew where a tawny 🦉 had a nest 🪹. In an old tree stump about 4feet tall & suddenly one came flying out near to me. Just absolutely fantastic.
The tawny owl chicks are just so cute, it hurts :) but in the best way. Thank you again for all the work you do, Robert.
Watching this has brought so much pleasure to my life. I enjoy your kindness and helping hand when you realize the need to intervene with the little mice to secure their lives will last. Such great entertainment!!
Thank you for all of your hard work in bringing this story to us! I look forward to the next video of this precious family! 🦉🦉🦉🦉
Your videos are shaped like stories. There's a struggle, obstacles which must be overcome, full of ups and down moments. Even less positive outcomes contain a sense of honouring a life, and there is hope, always. Thank you for all you do
Robert, you're an amazing Photographer, Painter, Wildlife Preservationist and I'd bet husband and dad.
Once again, Thanks REF.
Amazing ! Thank you for lending the family a helping hand by supplementing the food supply ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh yes,Robert.
I enjoyed this documentary as all the others you've made.
Owls are very special to me.
I'm waiting on the next docs.
Much appreciated and kind regards to you and the animals in Yorkshire,
T🪶
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you Robert. Bonnie has done an amazing job with help from you!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
What a beautiful Owl family. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video.
They grow so quickly. From one week to another they turn in more than double the size.
I just love those owls
The rat and mice population in the valley is probably so low now with all of these owls lol.
2:34 look at those precious wiggles!!!!!!
Precious owl family. I love them all, but I particularly love tawny owls! Thank you for the marvellous footage, Robert 💚
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍
So that's what freshly hatched tawny owls look like. Their down is a bit grayer than the barn owls babies, but other than that, it's what I expected.
Yes they are very grey and fluffy - they still have a lot of this down when they leave the nest.
Aw, that’s so awesome. I absolutely adore birds. These owlets sorta reminded me of penguin chicks. At some point they want more food than the parents can provide. The chicks chase after them ruthlessly and relentlessly, begging for fish ejecta. Aaah! I ain’t got nothing chickadees! Give a chick a fish or teach a chiclet TO fish?
What a sweet, sweet video! Such a miracle that we get to see this moment in their new lives!❤❤❤
As ever, fantastic footage, of these precious little creatures X:)
Thank you for giving a helping hand & sharing these stories!
Thank you for your commitment and dedication, keeping us all over the world updated. You are so appreciated. Blessings and be well…✨💖✨
They're just so flippin' cute!

Everything about this video is amazing, Bonnie is such a good mother!
Do you have any bat boxes with cameras? I’d really love to see some bats as well!
No we don't - not at the moment.
Aww, precious babies! Owls are such good parents and sweet couples.
Lovely
I did, amazing momma bird.
Thank you for giving us this amazing experience.
Nice Video Sir❤️
7:30 "Wanna stay for lunch? We're having Jackdaw."
…and this upload is exactly why I follow this channel. I personally Love learning about nature while animals are in their own habitat and not in cages or behind glass. 👍👍
They’re so cute these chicks are so lovely 😊
I loooooove your videos!
Her tail is always up in the air it's so cute
Un grand merci à vous pour cette magnifique vidéo!
Some interesting interactions going on. Very cool video, thank you for being caring and giving them extra food😄
This channel inspired me to put my bird feeders back outside and learn more about the local birds of Arizona. Thank you Robert!
Thank you, Robert. Your passion is saving lives, and interesting people in paying attention. You are likely an OBE, but I will forgive you for that. You didn’t move the Empire, and you deserve recognition. (Truly, I imagine you were born to it, and can’t be given an OBE. One born to it cannot be given it…)
Absolutely love it ❤️
🥰
Hi Robert...thank you so much for the beautiful video of Bonnie and those adorable 🦉 owners and of course her mate. I just tear up when I see the babies...so fluffy!! Glad they are all healthy!!
As a human, I have never known unconditional love. Those birds were born with far more than I will ever know. Good for them.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻💋💋💋💋💐💐💐🇺🇸🌸
Love you Bonnie such a cheeky the fast branching owlets
This reminds me of when a family of barn owls were nesting on a cliff side I could watch from the window of my room. I remember seeing three little baby owls curiously poking their heads out of the nest. I also remember the noice they made in the middle of the night.
Beautiful experience to watch
Very loving ❤️ mother and Innocent Chiks
Love and Enjoy family story! Your vids are uplifting and heart touching!
