Chad, Jolene, & Rod, thank you for taking us along for an adventure. That was an interesting tour of Derek's place he had a lot of interesting Antiques and things that I have never seen before. There will be plenty to do if you decide to make the Austin roadworthy again. I see a roof chop in the future. Jolene thank you for the great video, it was really nice to be able to get closeups of his variety of antiques especially with Derek having items that I have never seen before. Enjoy the rest of your day in Nova Scotia be back tomorrow!

143rd! I could sit for for days listening to Derek’s stories and all his antiques. I love to hear older gentleman tell all about the old days. They know more than what’s on a phone or a computer! He probably knows more about cars than any mechanic that’s under 50 years old. Roger in Pierre South Dakota USA

The Austin Countryman was originally built as a panel van and they were converted by putting in windows and seats . Here in UK I can remember guys who bought the vans and self converted them . The vans were about half the price of a car , so , buy an old van and convert convert it yourself . In the years from the end of ww2 till we joined the EEC we had purchase tax which was added , depending on what you were buying , was added to the price . Vans were exempt until you put rear windows in . We used to convert them to cars by fitting them in . If you declared them to Dept of Transport you had to pay the difference so we didn’t. Saved a lot of money ! !!

I like to crosswood station wagon. This man has a wonderful collection. His knowledge of the individual Parts is fantastic. Instead of cutting your car down and making it into a two-door, how about the suicide doors conversion? You mentioned other things you can do with the car but that one appeals to me most. Of course you could section the car which I haven't seen anybody do that in a long time. Chop in the top sounds great. It will be interesting to see what you do with this car, I'm assuming a customized hot rod.

I never thought I'd see an A40 Devon on a US channel. A friend of my mother ran one for decades. My Dad had an A40 Somerset that replaced it. They didn't have a lot of performance, but they would run flat out for hours. Without good dampers, they would pitch a bit and make you car sick. The chassis and drive train was used in the Austin/Nash Metropolitan - someone's strange idea of what a small English car had to look like to sell in the US.

Greetings from Down Under. My first car was a 1951 Austin A40 Devon. I believe that one to be a 1950 model because of the lack of quarter windows in the front. Mine also had a sun roof and as a silly kid, with my mates, we would get it up to speed in top gear and put a brick on the accelerator pedal. I would climb up on the roof and steer with my feet. All was good and no one got killed.
