"Yes I did stab my thumb". Ouch. I immediately noticed the bandage. Hope it healed quickly. This is very cool. I'll have to look in to getting the kit or a similar one.
Proud of you man, you pronounced the rim segments correctly, they sound as Fellies, as in Bellies, not how they are spelt, Felloes. George Sturt would pat you on the back.
Dave miles 1 second ago I found the model Mountain buckboard a pleasure to build and place on display, one improvement I think that would help the builder is a reduction in physical size of the plans, incorporate them into the build instruction booklet, I found the plans to be unwieldy and as such, little used and wasted, such a shame as the information provided by them was excellent.. and if they had been handier would have helped the builder understand the procedure far better. I may well make another one of your wagons, but next time will invest in photocopy reductions of the plans. Regards English Dave
Thank you for your interest, Dave. I hope you do not think that these kits are "mine" or that I have anything whatsoever to do with their design and production. I am only a satisfied customer of Model Expo. Also, when reducing plans with a photocopier, pay very close attention to the scale of the final result. There are very few copiers that make accurate copies in both the X and Y axes, nor are their percentage readings necessarily accurate. Thanks again for your comments.
@@waynekempson6393 oh, sorry, I did give the impression they are your kits didn't I, as you state, you are a satisfied customer, as Indeed am I, I've just finished their Fire hook and ladder wagon, now I'm hooked myself.
Hey Wayne. I've ordered my Conestoga Wagon from America. It'll take a few weeks to get here. Fairly new to model making. Had a go at ships, but took on too much and got stuck, so I decided to go with something different. I watched your videos and I'm really looking forward to building this model. Any advice for me?
When ordering the model, there was an option to buy the paint and tools from model expo, so I just ordered that. Hope it's ok. Just want to make sure I've everything I need before starting it. It's great to chat to you for advice. Hope you don't mind, as I'm particular in what I do, which is essential for this hobby! They did supply primar with the paints for it though. Do the brass parts and need priming?
Model Expo sends you acrylics. I used their paints on the Stagecoach model and was very pleased with the outcome, so you are in good shape. The brass is not primed for blackening, just the opposite. You want the parts to be perfectly dirt and oil free.
+Paulo Gonçalves (Frontero) This is a good kit. It is well designed and easily built. It is for sale on ebay www.ebay.com/itm/Model-Trailways-1-12-Conestoga-Wagon-Wood-Metal-Kit-Save-47-Free-Shipping-/231844382047 at a good price from Model Expo (who manufactures the kit). Go for it, and don't let money stop you.
Brass can be blackened with a product called Blacken-It. Search the net for it, it is sold in many places. The key is to clean the brass with acetone thoroughly to remove every bit of oil residue from your fingers (then handle the brass with tweezers only). I rushed things and that is why my brass had some flaking. Painting is straightforward, but I recall there being some information in the instructions. I ended up using enamels model paint and was pleased with the results.
hey Wayne. I got the model the other day. Ive the wheels almost made. What did you do to paint the aluminium parts? Model expo gave me two containers of white primer, but im not sure if it's for priming aluminium.
The primer from ME is an acrylic and is not suitable for metal. The instructions suggest using a primer designed for metals obtained separately from a hardware or home improvement store. I did not use primer at all and the final result suffers for it (I was a bit in a hurry). So, get some metal primer for the hubs. It is good to hear you are making good progress.
Ok i'll get some from my hardware. Are the hubs the only things that need to be primed? Anything i need to know about painting the model, or is it all straight forward? Thanx for your time.

I think you will enjoy the model. Just take your time, read the instructions and be patient. It is much, much easier than building a ship.

Hi Wayne, What is the wood you used, Can you please confirm
How do you blacken the brass parts? Does the instructions give much info on painting the model?
