Wow Chris , I biuld wooden boats and I have looked that is one just as a passing interest, but thinking not very challenging. Wow was I wrong, I should have done more research. Mad skills my friend mad skills!! I will follow this with a lot of interest . Thanks for taking the time to video all this not a simple task. Dang man mad skills .
Hi 4 englishlies and thank you for your comments. I'm pleased to have been able to pass on some of my "mad skills" to yourself and others and trust some of these will be included into your future modeling projects. Yes, it certainly is challenging and time consuming to video this sort of subject but I do enjoy the challenge with lots more to come.
Hi Chris. Thank you so much for your informative video. I purchased this same kit a couple of years ago and am just starting to build it. I was really interested to see how you use your jig to line up all the spokes with the hub. I have subscribed to your channel, so hopefully I can follow you with your build.
Hi Dave and thank you for your kind words. I'm very happy to hear you are looking to start your own build on this kit. I'm slowly progressing through the build with the 2 larger wheels now completed and the smaller 2 to follow. I will be adding more content as I progress in the coming weeks. I'm certainly no expert on these kits but the years of model making and such has hopefully helped to set my stride with positive ways and means to forge ahead. Happy to share any further info with you if required as you begin your build. Would also appreciate any feedback on how your build in making out too. Thanks again and happy building
@@chrisoxford8442 Hi again Chris. Thanks for your prompt reply. It sounds as though you really enjoy building model kits. I have built a few myself. The last model I built was a 1:4 scale (very large scale and heavy) Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle. This kit came in a "part-work" magazine each fortnight, which I subscribed to. By the time I had finished building this particular model it had cost me AU$2000!! A lot of money, I know but I was happy with the end result. The kit is metal with some plastic parts. I have also built a couple of 1:6 scale Tamiya Harley Davidson FLH Classic motorbikes, one of which is an Police bike. I will keep in touch with feedback re the stagecoach build.
@@51yatto Hi Dave, I have enjoyed model making and generally tinkering around in the garage for many years with plastic and timber kits much like yourself. I do have a soft spot for the Tamiya 1:12 and 1:6 scale bikes also and have assembled many over the years. In my older years now and have rekindled the interest and my son gave me the idea of sharing this with the youtube community. Your 1:4 scale sounds like a labour of love and dedication. Would really like to see pics if you decide to share on Instagram or similar. I have my eye on the Pocher Ducati but it's hard to find here in Australia and commands a high price too. All the best with your model building and thanks for watching and commenting.
@@chrisoxford8442 Hi again Chris. I have a problem with a couple of my wheel hubs. The holes at the back of the hubs are off-centre. I am wondering if you had the same problem. If so, what was your 'fix"? Can I use a piece of dowel to fill the hole and then re-drill or should I use wood filler?
Hi Dave. I too had one hub that was drilled slightly off-centre. In my case it was fairly minor so I decided that because this was a static model this issue would not be really noticeable so I did not glue a dowel and re-drill.
wooow... how many horses pull? What scale or size in cms would be the horses?. thank you... i am thinking to buy... but i'd like to add driver and horses...
Hi Chris, couple more questions from a novice... I noticed different coloured labels of the CA glue you're using on the spokes on the fellows and the hub?? Are they different viscosity? Also curious about your homemade small sanding blocks. Are you using stick-on paper or just glue, or?? Thanks. Ken
Hi Ken. The different coloured CA bottles are the thin (pink) and thick (green). I use the thin to penetrate the timber fibres and help to stabilise the timber splits and thin voids. The thick CA is what I mostly use for fast setting most of everything else. The sanding blocks are various MDF or Ply off cuts or paddle pop sticks that use stick-on sand paper. This way I can manufacture all types of shapes and sizes to suit my needs. Hope this helps.
@@chrisoxford8442 Thanks for the reply, Chris. Yes, this helps. Much appreciated. Finally got my kit so I'm in the process of setting up a little workstation.
I recently bought the kit and also noticed that the wheel hubs are off centre. Is this a big problem or should I make the effort to plug the holes and re-drill.
Hi Tierck, I decided to leave my axle centers as supplied as the kit is designed as a static model and mine were only a millimeters or so off center. However, I would have plugged and re-drilled if they were drilled on an angle through the hubs for the axle.
@@chrisoxford8442 Thanks Chris for your reply. I am filing them out as the holes are only 4mm.diameter anyway. Should be 5mm. This way I am getting them more towards the center and straiter. Regards.
Chris I hope you remember me I was following all your videos. I am building the same stagecoach I lost the brass fret I was wondering does anything you can do to help me or any ideas what I can do to fabricate the parts mainly I need a photo of the whole fret together or maybe I can contact you on messenger?sincerely Bill Floyd
The wheel is incorrect! On all wagon, cart, coach wheels there are two spokes to a fellie. You have 12 spokes so should have 6 fellies but you only have 4. Therefore you have a spoke on the fellie joints, which would not be possible on the real wheel. The spokes should rounded to a dowel at the hub end to fit the holes tightly, (you have gaps at the sides of each spoke) and by building flat you have insufficient dish to the wheels. Its an inaccurate representation sadly.
Agreed. It’s a shame Artesania Latina went to so much trouble with other details in this kit but overlooked a large detail like the wheels. I guess they were looking at build-ability over authenticity and as it’s a painted static model kit where the full authenticity of the wheel build is not critical. Thanks for your comment.
Brillante trabajo y lleno de paciencia, con mucha ilusión.
Enhorabuena.
Gracias por sus amables palabras y muy feliz de que disfruten de los videos.
