This is what a lot of people wanted. The CP3 is a masterpiece. And they really put a lot of R&D into the frame and made a good choice on the brakes. Have to give credit where it is due. And the price is good on top of that. Personally, I’d love this with a retro fairing kit like the XSR900GP but with double round headlights and a high exhaust can. It would sell more R9s to people who feel like the R bike styling has become a little too ubiquitous. And that would be the perfect dream bike for a lot of people.
I upgraded to the 2024 MT-09 SP if i just waited a month. Will see if an R9M happens, and then i might consider changing bikes. I like the new design language it flows nice especially the wings 🪽 and the headlights.
Very interesting bike. Ordering a 2025 R1 for delivery in the spring. I might consider opting out for the R9, it's nearly $10,000 less. My only thought is that I'm very accustomed to racing V4 two strokes with very little torque, high rev horse power and limited engine braking. I'm not sure if could get used to all the low end, mid range power of that 4 stroke triple. The R9 is really nice, I'm sure it will attract a lot buyers. Kudos to Yamaha.
Accustomed to v4’s? Then why step down to a R1? You must mean inline 4. The r9 won’t hold a candle against an r1. One is a super bike the other is a super sport.
Now that I've gotten to see it, it's not as ugly as people were saying. I'm still not a fan of wings on my street bike though. I probably would do 3 track days a year and I'm not going for lap records or championships. This just means if I have knuckle head money and tip it over that there is no way that I won't need a new fairing.
Why Street version doesn't have screws on winglets like race version?(WorldSSP) If it possible on race version to take them off it would be cool to have same thing on street version
For one, they still make the R6 and the R1 currently. There was a showroom new R6 at the dealership where I bought my MT-09SP. Its sold as a track only bike however you can put turn signals, lights, mirrors, etc. on it and get it tagged. The R9 is probably going to be a rocket on track with all the torque of the CP3 to put down in the corners. Being a 3 cyl it has less rotating mass making it nimble. Time will tell.
