Im 13 years old and I ve been following james since I was 12, It inspired me to dj and also producing, now I m making remixes and bootlegs, and I upload them on soundcloud and youtube, and I got 40 thousand views!!
James hype got me into djing and although my mixing style is much different to his, he was the first that made me want to get on the decks, and I’ve been making mixes here on RUclips for over a year now🙏
I think a major part of James’s success is that him & his team seem like genuine nice humble people, obviously he’s talented but personality is important. Big fan, wish him even more success
I’m watching this and reminiscing about my nightclub DJ career, a 15 year stint, holding down some very long residencies and going through the very same emotional rollercoasters as you describe, feeling the pressure to make the nightclub money, understanding the difference between a student led Thursday and a ‘Sunday Funday’…. I was always the DJ that had the remix or bootleg that the others wanted, I was always the guy playing the genre before it really hit the mainstream, and keeping my residency nights busy. I felt a lot of pressure to keep the nights busy and spent hours and hours downloading tunes each week…just to be one step ahead of the other clubs on the strip. I remember one night, having a huge argument with the club owner where I was the weekend resident, because I started playing drum n bass in a night that was predominantly ‘pop’, a month later, we were the busiest club on the street and we stayed that way for years. When the world stopped for COVID, I got off the DJ rollercoaster, despite many club owners asking me to come back…. Watching this makes me wish I hadn’t stopped…
I rented a sound system off you a couple of times in 2010 and saw you do the whole night in Funkybox in Liverpool that summer (shut down for violence 😂). So great to see where you are now, what an inspiration
Thanks for boosting the morale! Guys like you and fish56octagon who give back to the community from what you've learned are awesome. You don't need to, but you take the time to help us. Pure respect!
I think he is very talented, but i think like many ppl say there is a lot more than just talent, you need the right contacts as well. The right marketing to publish your stuff, you can be lucky and get discovered but if you want to go further you really need i think just the right publishment.
You deserve EVERYsingle bit of success James. I’ve never seen such a full on dedicated hard working DJ as you. Are you sure you even sleep bro? 😂. Started following myself beginning of lockdown and continued since - all your content spills out like a transparent diary of your life. Thanks for sharing your journey with us and inspiring us DJs. Keep the tunes coming bro and well done 🔥 👏
Great interview! If I could give you guys a recommendation for producers to interview, I'd really like to see more interviews from producers like Skream, Mala, Andy C, and Shy fx in the dubstep, bass, and dnb scenes. The UK is an influential country when it comes to these genres
i just started again djing cuz i cant without it and im probaly gonna left school get a job and try to learn all dj skills to start playing in clubs cuz i just cant without djing in my life
Classic first world comment/problem sleep on studio floor but still a worthy point in the pursuit of a career that is so over subscribed. Shrug off little inconveniences and never give up. Probably one if not THE most prolific and hardworking djs in the game imho.
