Share my thoughts? Well. Ok ...
This guy started off contradicting himself... his /HER PHILOSOPHY IS AS SHALLOW IS AS MUD HOLE. when you get below his sentence he says in an idea ? ITS NOT PRACTICAL IN SOCIETY! He literally said “THEY ARE NO FAULTS IN HER IDEAS “. And I found five flaws in his first 4 sentences! Lol. These people thinks ,,,”only care & TAKE CARE about yourself and everyone WILL BE BETTER & OK.” The first and most fatal flaw in that bs from the get go is ... what happens when “YOUR SELFISHNESS/SELF INTERESTS CONFLICTS WITH WHAT ANOTHER PERSONS SELF INTERESTS? Then it takes laws and regulations to keep that balance. And they are always going to be a circumstance where one side isn’t going to be happy because it goes against THEIR WANTS. To put it simply is ...these people are as close to figuring out a utopia,as a piss ant is to inventing a computer. Lol. I really like Patrick Bet-David Yiu can tell he knows all of that is a bunch of bullshit. Just like Ayan Rand acted like. “NOBODY HELP ME ..I DID EVERYTHING MYSELF “. And that cane from pure selfishness and total disregard for the people she lives with ,loaned her money. And it’s like a better Philosopher said “WE STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF THE GIANTS BEFORE US”. And to know what that actually means ...will prove Ayan Rand is nothing but like these other republicans that worship her. They only appreciates and respect those who can benefit them in the future. And after they are done with you (meaning they THINK you can’t benefit them anymore? You aren’t worth Shit and you are a sponge on society. As if they are the total representation of society. Btw. Ayan Rand was a great proponent FOR ABORTION RIGHTS. AND THAT CONTRADICTION IN THOSE REPUBLICANS AND HER SAYS EVERYTHING ABOUT THEIR PHILOSOPHY & IDEAS. BECAUSE SEE? Ayan RAND WAS A SELFISH UNAPPRECIATIVE BITCH. AND IF SHE WAS A MAN SHE WOULD BE AGAINST ABORTION. She was only for it because she was a bitch with a chip on her shoulders that happen to catch a break GOT LUCKY LIKE OTHERS IN BUSINESS HAS through MANY OTHER THINGS PEOPLE DID THAT HELPED HER “ before her . She and those others only created a way to BENEFIT FROM WHAT OTHERS HAS ! This guy is a fkn idiot. It’s just he’s too selfish to like trump. Because like Ayan Rand thought ,THEY BOTH DONT LIKE ANYONE THAT THEY DONT NEED AT THE TIME THEY PUT THAT PERSON TO THOUGHT. And what was already done for them can’t be taken away ,so until you can benefit them again? ITS F### YOU ! It’s people like that grey head guy, that is the worlds biggest problems. They only care about what they want right then ,and as far as their short mind can think in the future. They all should be put in a island and let them ponder about “HOW NOBODY HAS DONE ANYTHING FOR THEM OR CAN “.

    • @Chon-c
      @Chon-c 4 года назад

Ayan Rand was brought up during the worst time in Russia’s history. And it’s normal for people like that to be self centered as fk. And when they finally get freedom, they are in conflict and are intimidated by others. It’s like throwing stray dogs some food that lived in the wild where THEY HAD TO ONLY WORY ABOUT THEMSELVES. AND A PACK OF DIFFERENT DOGS RAISED TOGETHER WILL NOT BE THE SAME. SELFISH AS TO THE POINT OF FIGHTING TO RUN IN A CORNER TO EAT. DAMN. I CANT STAND THSE TYPE OF PEOPLE 🙄😂. They get under my damn skin at the shallow thinking they do. It only works in their mind because the only things that matters is what they think of. AYAN RAND MOOCHED OFF HER COUSINS UNTIL SHE WAS DONE WITH THEM ,THEN SAID 🖕. Lol. And they/HE thinkS SHES A GENIUS?? 🙄

    • @Chon-c
      @Chon-c 4 года назад

I’m a total capitalist too btw. I just know these damn Kooks aren’t practical and it’s all about them being spoiled & SOOO SELFISH to the point OF ,& long enough in their age/life. They just think it’s a damn philosophy 🙄😂. Because they are so self inflated, they are just too embarrassed to call it what it is. Because these type of people has only re branded what a spoiled child that don’t know about or care about anything outside of what they are thinking. It’s that simple. 💁‍♂️

    • @Chon-c
      @Chon-c 4 года назад

Andy Roo And ...little does he know. China has a more capitalist philosophy when it comes to things like NO PATENTS AND NO LAWS EXCEPT WHAT THE SELFISH AND PARANOID GOVERNMENT WANTS. BECAUSE HE IS ONLY THINKKNG THAT SHALLOW. It’s his whole problem on his philosophy. It’s really the Dunninhcrugar effect. It’s when a person thinks they are so smart ,they know everything and won’t except another thought so they don’t even learn wtf THEY DONT KNOW. so they go through life thinking they are a genius. After that it’s about psychological bs then. Not philosophy or economics. Because they have psychological problems. Lol.

Dander Spat Donald trump is only a more flashy version of Ayan Rand and this guy. None of them are about or know anything other than their own self interests. And everything else is about using people,or a byproduct of it. Donald trump will go down in history as the worst president in history. For 200 yrs. or until we get a dictator with more brains than Donald. Because no different, except dummer. It’s just that He’s just got smaller goals is all. And a easier satisfied ego.

Brian , I definitely recommend the nonfiction , which will go a lot deeper and get to the roots of her thinking . What many people do when reading into Ramds fiction for the first time , is to understandably bro g up questions and scenarios “ well what about this or that !” And that’s the extent of their digging before they move on from Rand . Instead , dig further . I had my doubts in the beginning with countless issues . Try Leonard Peikoffs podcasts which are categorised and there are hundreds and hundreds of questions put forward by listeners that Peikoff answers . Try the ayn rand lexicon , that’s extremely helpful .

Hello Patrick - Melanie here, coming to you from Kelowna, B.C., Canada. I have only recently discovered you, and here you are having an interview with an Ayn Rand advocate. Your range from philosophy to politics is why I love listening to your podcasts. I read Anthem when I was in grade 11 - I had no idea who Ayn Rand was or what the book was about but it was the smallest book on the school library shelf and I only had three days to read and complete a book report. I was so captured by this book. Then, at the age of 22 I met a stranger who seemed to have a brilliant, curious mind. He told me he had a book for me to read - it was The Fountainhead. I barely knew this person but he must have seen something in me that made him think that I would understand and relate to the book. I certainly did. I went on to read Atlas Shrugged and The Virtue of Selfishness. At the time I was very busy working two jobs and saving all my money to buy my own house. I was raised in a broken family; my mother had been married and divorced three times. Out of six kids that she gave birth to, I didn't have a sibling who shared my father's DNA. My goal in life at that time was to become financially independent so as not to have to depend on anybody for my financial well being. I never wanted to have to depend on someone else like my mother had. I saw the pain and suffering she went through by being in that position - three different husbands and on welfare in between. She had no education and very low self esteem. I was not going to ever be in that position. As it turns out , I didn't get married till I was 54 and I've never had children - I have two beautiful dogs. ANYWAY - during this interview at about the one hour mark your said to the chairman, "How can you be a Libertarian if you say that your philosophy is 100% right?" - WOW - I say that all the time about religion - "How can any religion be right if they ALL say that they are right?" This has been my argument for my philosophy that "Religion is man-mand" - END OF STORY... Patrick, keep bring us GREAT CONTENT!

Because they had smaller goals ,that is essentially nothing more than Spoiled children with the same size of world view .

The problem is like you said it’s a packaging issue. Objectivists are using language that most people despise, like selfishness. They want everyone to use their definition of these words, that’s not going to happen and that’s why it’s a bad strategy. They have to reframe and use better words to attract more people. Yaron’s attempt to use the word self-interest more than selfishness demonstrates that he is aware of the packaging problem. But he is not there yet, and there is a lot more to do.

21:14 Patrick, I actually just watched what you're referring to here and commented on it. Unless we're referring to different instances, you've totally misrepresented what happened. The woman said that she once followed Ayn's work but, now that she's more educated, doesn't. She directly implied that educated people would reject her work and/or that her work is for the uneducated. Ayn refused to respond to her because she was clearly being rude and not because she doesn't agree with her. She actually clearly said that she'd be happy to answer the question if it came from someone else. To pretend she was digging her head in the sand instead of not tolerating rudeness is wrong of you to do.

Why doesn't the "penny" drop. I've heard this lack of understanding of sacrifice ad infinitum. I seriously don't understand why it's such a difficult point for most people to grasp.
    I'll try myself:
Take any so called sacrifice leveled at an objectivist (such as losing sleep for your kids). What's the structure? It is an action on your part for something.
    Well what?
The something is something that you want.
    What is the action?
It is some requirement on your part to perform an action in exchange for that something you want.
    So you're trading.
I'll do this, and in exchange I'll get that.
    Value for value.
My kid can't sleep. I want my kid to sleep. I also want to sleep.
Do you love your kid? Yes. Because your kid is a value to you.
    How much of a value?
    I don't know yet... what's the offer?
The offer is exchange some of your sleep time in exchange for providing your kid that you love, that is a value to you for your sleep.
Well why isn't he just behaving and going to sleep?
Because he is only two years old, not 37. He doesn't know better. And you know that.
So you take into consideration the facts of reality. He's two, he acts according to his nature, and he is a bigger value to you than the sleep you'll need to lose at this particular time in your life.
You're trading in accordance with reality. The reality that he is two and is acting in accordance with reality. Reality demonstrates that your time would help.
So you trade. Value for value.
What's the kid getting? Comfort with Daddy.
What did he offer? He's two. He just is what he is. He is a value to you.
So what are you getting? Seeing your kid at peace and happy, and further bonding with you.
Keep that up over time and continue to build that bond. If that's a bigger value to you in exchange for your time, then think of your time in this occasion as currency.
5 hrs one night of your time currency in exchange for a little more bonding time.
Trading. Value for value. Rational self interest.
    Seriously... where's the sacrifice?
Do you want to keep the sleep time and have your kid just sleep because it's convenient for you disregarding reality demonstrating that such a thing isn't according to his nature.
If that's what you want then that is philosophically speaking, the primary of consciousness; meaning reality is not what it is, but what I want it to be... then you're a mystic.
Objectivism rejects every form of mysticism. It teaches among many things, ways to recognise what premises you hold that might be mystical.
Best premises. And stop sacrificing. Care about your values, and learn what are values and why you need them.

As an Objectivist I find Ayn's defense of America, meaning American society circa 1920s, understandable because compared to Russian society it was more vibrant, freer, exciting, humane. But as she became more politically knowledgable she should have been condemning the popular political paradigm as authoritarian. It violates rights while claiming to protect them. She should have been able to see it, denounce it, and suggest a new political paradigm based on voluntarism, reason, rights. She advocated for the goal of individual sovereignty (I know, I know, the term is redundant), but she supported a politics that worked to reduce freedom, on net. The USA was a fundamentally flawed system from the founding that was not strong enough to stop the "Yankee Spirit" from achieving the "American Dream". By the 1920s that society was dying, mainly due to the public (govt.) school indoctrination. She recognized and wrote an excellent essay on the crippling of young minds, "The Comprachicos". So, why didn't she denounce/expose it in the USA, as it was becoming the USSA?

If one explores the limits (think calculus) of all the cultures across time, you will come to understand that limited government is essential for a better society. The more the government expands, the fewer your freedoms. You are seeing and experiencing a growth in censorship by your host site here. The arbitrator of truth is driving away the reason for it's existence . See that people go where they have more freedom, and more choice (Spotify), and where they are treated better.

How about all the judges he has appointed including the supreme court with a key focus being a strong believe in the constitution? Trump may not fully understand the constitution, but at least he is putting the right judges in place to support it.

Patrick noted that all philosophies have inherent contradictions and asked this penetrating question regarding Ayn Rand’s Objectism. While I am a huge fan of both Yaron Brook and Ayn Rand, Objectivism does indeed contain a fundamental contradiction: while decrying the coercion of the State, both Rand and Brook are not able to make the leap to full voluntaryism, instead relying on the State for defense and to protect property rights. They reject anarcho capitalism (voluntaryism) as a recipe for chaos. For a simple counter example, see Titus Gebel’s “Free Private Cities” where independent cities (example: Honduran ZEDE Prospera) run by for profit municipal corporations grant citizens well defined property rights through explicit contract (vs. the nebulous implicit one-sided “social contract” that may be unilaterally amended/ breached at any time for any reason by any government).

The basic main problem of society is people's bloated ego (henceforth EGOD) that infringes on human rights - others and one's own. One way to fight it is to recognize / imagine a highest supremity to which the ego is subservient (henceforth UGOD). This is an important aspect of religion which is abused by many whether in the name of religion or as various forms of dictatorship.
In light (or rather dark) of such abuse, Ayn Rand fought an idealistic war against 'ugoism' of religions and other systems that negate reliance on direct perception - experience. As a side effect consequence she reinforced EGOD in order to withstand UGOD. She has thereby regressed the process towards viewing humility as the highest virtue of a unified harmonious flow (henceforth UHF) within Being, to viewing it as the lowest vice of an enslaved mind. The virtue of pride being in its pure form an exaltation over one’s proximity to sublime achievements, has been turned by her approach, into the idolization of EGOD. The failure to separate UGOD from religion that leads it to a balanced post-theist 'God' (highest supremity sublime state of consciousness), is an unfortunate bungle for Miss Rand’s high intellect. Had she not viewed religion as a mere early form of philosophy and morality, but as a most powerful method that integrates the strongest discipline for progressing to UHF, she would have had more success in finding the rational path she worked so hard for. However, the process towards UHF like all progressing processes, needs much preliminary vice versa fluctuation between thesis and antithesis in order to reach synthesis and unity. Similarly, she had to champion laissez faire capitalism and challenge communist depravity, failing to point enough to the ideal voluntary compassionate communistic coordination versus the necessary evil of capitalistic competition. Taking into consideration that she came from a world dominated by oppression of either monstrous religions or the dictatorship of the Soviet Union, it is understandable that it required her to emphasize and champion godless-'ugoless' and economic control-less freedoms.
Furthermore; had she been exposed to Advaita (and similar eastern modes of thought), she would have realized the experience of consciousness above divisions of 'i' and 'you' which are mere sub confluences within experience. In that experience all love is a love of Being (or as she called it 'existence exists'). Thus, Miss Rand's saying that: “To say ‘I love you,’ one must first know how to say the ‘I’”, may be updated to saying: “To mean ‘I love you,’ one must first forget about the ‘I’ and the 'you'”.
Ayn Rand with all her objectivity, remained in her epistemological view, very much a philosophic word prioritizer rather than an experience prioritizer. She should nevertheless be thanked for having advanced humans quite a few steps on the way from philosophical word prioritization to epistemological (prime) experience prioritization.

Schools are too important to have a coercive monopoly run them Yaron, correct. The same can be said for security, roads, hospitals and justice, far too important not to be open to free market competition.
The constitution says the government is there to protect our freedoms, but like all government, even a true republic, from the moment it was written, the government starts interfering in the market until the word 'republic' is replaced with 'democracy', which then always leads to a dictatorship of one form or another. Freedom and private property rights are the answer. In all other aspects, Ayn Rand and yourself are spot on. Great interview.

Patrick, I wish you actually read Ayn Rand before doing the interview. It seems like you briefly read some random stuff or watched some videos or heard about her and came to the interview.
There is a difference between Faith, Trust and Belief. Ayn Rand clearly explained which is rational and which is not. Without realizing what she actually meant when she said, "I don't have faith" there is no point in debate. As Ayn Rand says, without understanding "Definitions" we can't discuss philosophy.
Same way, her philosophy is of "Rational self interest" or "Selfishness". But if you don't read the explanation, it feels like the general "selfishness" we use in society which is Peter Keating selfishness in The Fountainhead. Howard Roark looks like a man of sacrifice coz he sacrificed money, job, deals, clients and even his lover for his values. But Ayn Rand called him the selfish man in the book and Peter Keating a selfless man. If you understand that, then only you are eligible to discuss her philosophy. Because again, without getting the definitions, there is no point in debate.

It's the time of individuation. He's right that individual development needs to be put first. In modern times we often see people policing others and saying they have to do this and not do that. They completely disrespect the individual, assuming that everyone should act the same. That's the collectivism mindset. It's great to come together and that's natural but only when we respect each other's perspectives and stay open minded enough to learn from everyone.

"Is objectivism sustainable to run a nation ?"
That's the wrong question : objectivism isn't something that is controlled by the state ( like communism or fascism) .
It's the individuals in the society that make it work, by being rationally self-interested.
Convincing individuals to go for rational self-interest is another matter. It's easy to sacrifice your long term interests for short term happiness, and people do it over and over again.

Wholly agree, except this. Where is the sacrifice? He didn’t, because His temporal body He loved less than the soul of yours and mine. He values justice above mercy. The sins of the world couldn’t be without it’s logical inference: justice. Therefore He stepped forward to take it’s implications. He hands forgiveness to anyone who will recognize their incompleteness, so that the wrongdoings you and I executed are paid for and we’ll receive together, the life everlasting. May God bless the reader.

Although it cost a lot of resources, Reagan's policy did break the USSR. I guess Rand didn't live to see the end result in the late 80s. I think she would have been more forgiving of Reagan had she lived through the fall of the Berlin wall and liberation of the eastern block and other satellite countries. I mean the USSR embodied all she was working against. I don't think the "religious right" started with Reagan.
