@@gonzalotorres5282 Hi Gonzalo! It's a fantastic game, I love it (I've tried it on GamePass), but this video is focused on the run and gun genre. Infernax I will probably cover it in another video. Regards
yeah but the knife attack in it always annoyed me, especially when i just wanted to shoot since sometimes i was aiming at the guy behind whoever i am cutting
I really can't believe that metal slug hasn't been mentioned enough by gamers. It's always been a favorite of mine. I even got the anthology version of it on the PSP.
1:13 NARC is one of my favorite arcade shooters. I remember being young and popping a quarter in not expecting much, but once I got that rocket launcher and shot an enemy it blew my mind. I was thinking "are those body parts flying through the air??" I had never seen anything as grotesque in a game before this.
@@RSK412 basically a digital frane compressed and bit mapped then overlayed on tbe background, narc dud something similar but was scaled to a more isometric perspective. Donkey kong, this and mortal kombat i may be off in my memory but the characters and the backgrounds were seperated and just looked like they interacted. Compare that to something like mario and environmental interaction is very necessary. I wish i could explain more but its not my field I just remember reading about the design of donkey kong country and the emergence of that art style and its conplications at the time. Ps if you enjoy these check out the elevator action redux, cantvremember its name byt its feels like an snk game and plays great, and one on the origional ps,deels like you are plating a bruce willis movie, one of the few action winners on ps,its very similar to expendable in looks. Also burcher has one of the best trailers Ive ever seen,it sounds like the opening to a grindhouse movie.
Valfaris and Huntdown are exceptionally good. If you like a Contra with a Warhammer 40k-like setting, go for Valfaris. If you like Contra with a Robocop/Judge Dreed-like setting, go for Huntdown.
Huntdown looks really good but Valfaris is overloaded from a graphics standpoint. You can't even spot your own avatar good enough cause it's merging with the background and foreground smoke. Visually Valfaris looks horrible.
I actually owned the Genesis/Mega Drive version of Robocop VS Terminator and damn was it very hard due to the fact that you have zero invincibility frames. There is also a restoration/ Blood Code (similar to Mortal Kombat 1's Blood Code) that makes it more bloody. It also restores the female enemies.
Nice compilation! I actually hadn't heard of several of these. I might have to check them out! Minor nitpick, but I noticed "length" is spelled wrong in the little info panel. I can't help it, my eyes just find those things. lol
I always play” let me guess if this game is on the list” in my head before i click on your vids. Most of the time you don’t disappoint!💯 But I can always point out at least ONE that you failed to mention(2 in this case) …Dirty Larry for Atari Lynx, and Techno Cop for Sega Genesis
Awesome bunch of games! I don't know if you've covered it or not, but Fury Unleashed is pretty brutal and violent as well. I can remember playing the total fire out of Valfaris, and then going on to Fury Unleashed...two genuinely great games back-to-back...I love it when that happens.
@@BitsBeats Cool! If you like twin-stick shooters, run-n-gun gameplay, beautiful art, and excellent music, then you are going to love Fury Unleashed! I got addicted to it, and I wouldn't stop until I had unlocked everything. The mechanics take a little bit to get used to, but once you do, you'll be raining down the carnage like nobody's business. Have fun!
@@LouGojira2 Just tell you that I've been playing it for a couple of hours, I think it's fantastic! 😅
The first opening video game of this video that chick reminds me of that intro people use in their vids "shut up and listen" or whatever it says lol nice video.
Now to seperate by "view type" and almost all games for the arcades and some for the home & portable consoles: 2.5D: - Narc - Aliens (Old Konami) - Expendable Top View: - Smash T.V. - Total Carnage - S.A.R.: Search and Rescue + Shock Troopers series - Alien Syndrome - Bloody Wolf - Last Alert - True Lies Side View: + Metal Slug series - Alien Hominid - Blazing Chrome - RoboCop VS Terminator (Sega Genesis version) - TH Strikes Back - Doom Troopers - King of Demons Multiple: + Contra franchise
Really loved the video and thanks for taking the time to make it!!!! Check out an old PC game called take no prisoners!!! That is one of my favorites!!!
It may not be blood but the robots in *"Shoot Many Robots"* "bleed" oil, and it's an awesome run and gun shooter, sadly nobody plays it anymore, I play it on my PS3.
I like how after 50 years, metal slug will still look great and not outdated at all, and you can troll some people to say it's a new indie game and then say it's from 1996
I love that game and I had doubts about including it... but I can't consider it a pure run and gun. I'll probably make a video about Hotline Miami copycats someday
I think Guirela wars on nes is worth to mention but is not bloody game, the game it self developed by SNK it felt like metal slug but in ikari warrior style..also door kicker action squad worth to mention to..
Blazing Chrome is a NEW game? Wow, most throwback games tip their hand a little on the whole "not subject to hardware limitations" thing, but that one fooled me. I could've sworn that was an old overlooked arcade shmup.
Have you played Lone Survivor? It's like a side scrolling Silent Hill with retro graphics. Maybe games similar to it (pixel art/retro style survival horror) would be a good video?
King of Demons is not really a run and gun shooter as you only get the fun for the first level before you turn into one of many demons. Mind you, you can go for a bad ending (if I remember correctly) by ignoring all of that and just staying as the dude with the gun (as shown in your clip) for the entire game.
I really need to say it, Shock Troopers 2nd Squad is even more gorier than the first one despite his "cute" visuals... uhnn Cute but violent I think could be the theme for another video hahahah
I might be overthinking this, but it could be getting more acceptable to give women gory deaths in run & gun games. In the 90s and early 2000s, the female mooks were either aliens(TH Strikes Back) or undead (King of Demons & Metal Slug 3). In modern times, female punks can be gunned down and lie bleeding on the floor(Easy Trigger).
Nah, the only female bad guys in video games are like the ones in Uncharted 4. They're black for diversity and they kick your ass the entire game and you can't even hit them once. Then they just peace out at the end of the game without you ever getting any satisfaction of paying them back for all the crap they put you through because otherwise, it would be sexist and racist.

The animation of Metal Slug is very satisfying to look at, especially how the Metal Slug itself looks fluid that it's almost sentient.

@Myötätuuli etelään metal slug and so above all run and gun that it is not even comparable to other games

50 years from now Metal Slug will still be one of the best examples of amazing 2D pixel art animation
Contra shattered soldier needs to come back, not as a remaster but a 16:9 ratio would be perfect
Loved that game, but it's hard as hell and far too long to lack a save feature.
1:13 NARC is one of my favorite arcade shooters. I remember being young and popping a quarter in not expecting much, but once I got that rocket launcher and shot an enemy it blew my mind. I was thinking "are those body parts flying through the air??"
