  • Sometimes a garbage disposal breaks and you only have a few dollars and not enough to replace the whole unit, or you want to remove the disposal because garbage disposals are overused and cause problems.
Personally unless it’s a high end unit or home I don’t like having garbage disposals unless it is a brand new construction. Because the waste they create can cause pipes to be ate away or plugged up.

Just what I needed! I absolutely DESPISE garbage disposals and since ours is leaking, it's gotta go and I don't want another one! My husband thinks that I'm insane for not wanting one, but he also doesnt wash dishes to see what I see clogging up these sinks. Im going for the entire replumbing and removal myself, thanks to you! Much success on your channel!

I got rid of mine years ago. I never really used it and only turned it on to see if it worked! I added a double screen basket strainer in both sinks to minimize anything that goes down the drain.

Honestly that’s where I’m at and you’re more likely to throw stuff down the drain with one and that’s not good for anyone.

@@TheJeffGeorge my GF's kitchen sink used to always get backed up. She cooks a lot and had to call out the plumber a lot to clean out the drain pipe. The plumber would have to send a snake about 75-100 feet to clean it out. She stopped using her disposal often and has yet to call the plumber to clear out the drain pipe.

@@2-old-Forthischet some of that plumbers drain opener that comes in a bag is a god send for this kind of thing. Unless it’s damaged underground in the basement then it would need replaced.

Also wanted to comment about the explanation of the flanged downpipe with dishwasher branch. There are only two hardware shops where I live and they don't carry that, so knowing the proper/best part is important. There is a local contractor-only store that kindly sold me that part...

Good video. Try reducing the UN-necessary noise down to a minimum level. Which will make watching and listening better.

Thanks! Very helpful explanation & directions! I am replacing a broken disposal with a sink strainer/basket. Have done other plumbing such as replace stem valves, but this seems more difficult. The details are helpful when one is trying to get the right parts and know enough buzzwords to use in the store. One question, what flashlight are you using? Very helpful with the stand instead of trying to hold with the 3rd hand that we don't have. I must have got a weird strainer cause none of the faucet tools fit into it (to keep it from turning when attaching it)?! I subscribed...

My flashlight is a M18 Milwaukee flashlight. It’s super helpful and I use it pretty much everyday! Thanks for the sub I appreciate you!

Hey! Using the channel locks to remove the plastic collar from the bottom of sink: first test was with your hand and you tried spinning the collar to the left: correct direction. Next you attached the channel locks but tried spinning them to the right: that was tightening!!! Then you used sawzall.

If you replace your pipes for the love of god do 2 individual sides not the stupid T connector this is done for some reason because everyone is lazy and cheap this is by far the second most atrocious along with....did it just get cold in here? Accordion pipes

No please why are you doing this removing the Garbage Disposal. I am very upset. I use this for my food scraps. There is nothing wrong with having a Garbage Disposal under the kitchen sink it eliminates food waste from going into the trash, pests and for sanitary reasons. Will this change your mind to reinstall it to install it back in.

I mean I’m not telling you that you have to remove yours. But if you have an old cast iron drain system it helps eat away at the inside of your pipes.
