Is this the best garbage disposal? Replacing a garbage disposal is an easy fix that took me 1-2 hours. Having a professional install or replace a garbage disposal for you can cost an average of $250 - $400, but you can do the replacement yourself. In this DIY video I show you what I did to replace and install my new garbage disposal to help you do it yourself in your own home after my old garbage disposer stopped working. I finally with your help got that garbage disposal installed. I had a problem taking out the old flange because it was siliconed in. It was murder. I probably should have left it and saved some time but I thought, what to do with the new one? The job took me 3 days but now it's done and everything's new. No runs, no drips, no errors. Well, maybe an error or two. But it's plugged in and ready to rock!

Just the video I need! I bought a GD with a pig tail but once I crawled under the sink, I discovered I need a hardwired type of disposal.
My father installed a 3/4HP 444 In-Sink-Erator in June 2006. He was the family handy man to his 7 kids and always put a date on his completed projects. Greatly missed by all.
Thanks for this great video ! Two experiences I've learned from.
1. When my disposal started leaking I'm glad our dishwasher didn't go through it - then we couldn't have used the dish washer, or another flood! So bypass it if you can - or not.
2. I used a small portable car jack to support the very heavy disposal I had when removing, and for installing it. Hope these experiences have helped

@TinkerForward follow up question, is there a way to tell if my current disposal is hardwired vs plugged in if I can't see where it is hooked into the power? A previous owner at some point updated the kitchen, but the power source for the disposal is behind the cabinets. Only way to access is to cut a hole in the back of the cabinet and follow the line. Any advice?

I have watched multiple vides on same subject.
You are the only 1 who said not to pop out dishwasher plug.
Other times they show hammer n pop out, some people maynot realize not to do that, or screw in flange to mu h 1st, or even remove rubber if not replacing old flange.

This really helped my granddaughter and her boyfriend have the confidence to try to do it themselves. Prior to finding your video, I had told her they could do it (and we would help) because I had done it before so ... what the heck! Let's go for it. Then we shared your video with them and they felt extra bolstered. I realized later this is 2 years old ... a few small changes with this model (notably how the electric hooks up) made us study the paperwork with it too. We appreciate the virtual handhold!!

My disposal needed new seals today- the video helped. My disposal is older and LARGE- so I used my car floor jack to balance and lift it into place while I lined it up- much easier than struggling doing both.

Thanks for this video Tinker. It was complete because other videos neglect the mounting bracket. I had to take apart my disposal because there was a leak under the mounting where the bracket connects to the sink. The challenge was the was so much old putty underneath and the cardboard gasket was wet. So far so good.

This video was very helpful. The only thing that went wrong was he didn’t say to put the rubber gasket into the new garbage disposal for the waste water pipe.

Excellent. I went through several other videos before I found yours and I’m glad I kept looking. Some things I liked. You gave good instructions and you kept on topic. You cleaned the area before starting to work….nothing in the cupboard, clean sink. You gave good info on the wiring….something I was looking for. Good camera angles. Lots of great details. I’d give you a 10 for sure. Thank you so much!
The best advice I learned from you is to place two screw drives in those retainer holes and all would be easy than removing the old one. I was almost going to call it, until looking at your valuable clip.
