New subscriber here, from Ohio, USA. I’m enjoying your videos. Some of my ancestors came from Maybole and Culzean Castle (Kennedy clan). Also, in my research for my family tree, I discovered that my 22nd great grandfather is Robert the Bruce. I haven’t yet scrolled through all of your videos, so I’m hoping to find one on Culzean Castle and Robert the Bruce. Thank you!

I now that the Bruce was the Earl of Carrick, which Maybole was the ancient capital of. That is a good place to start. Thank you for subscribing.

I used to go to Maybole every summer in the 50's. My auntie Betty was married to Bob Cooper from the town. They had five children: Morag, William, Alice, Robert and Raymond.
    Great memories.

I live in Maybole. Like almost every small town, industry left and the area went into decline as people moved to find work elsewhere. There is a fund in place for Maybole high street, to regenerate the section between the castle and the town hall - this particular section has suffered tremendously from all the trucks that pass through, and due to the road currently being a vital trunk road, getting external work done on the buildings is terribly difficult. Once the bypass is complete, the town appearance will improve fairly quickly as it will be possible to have tradesmen up ladders without risking them being whipped off by a passing truck! Maybole has huge potential, but the investment and plans are there to regenerate the town into a tourist attraction....covid has slowed the progress, but it is happening :D

I agree that Maybole has so much potential. I know what you mean about the struggles of a lot of small towns. It’s always heartbreaking to see. It is part of the reason why I set up this channel. I want to highlight places like Maybole and get people off the beaten track. I want to show that there are so many amazing places to visit in Scotland that people may not have known about. I will be keeping my eyes peeled with how things are going in Maybole.

@@AScottishOdyssey I would suggest returning in a year or two, and comparing this video to your future visit - it should make a great "then and now"! :) The bypass will change things and really quieten the town, but theres talk of attempting to promote the town using a similar template to Anstruther on the east coast, which is rather exciting.....so theres plenty to be optimistic about :) Even with lockdowns and covid, theres stacks of scope and hope! Happy travels :)

@@thesloaneranger1 I’ll definitely be back. I also want to shoot a video at the wee ruined church in Maybole. I will try my best to promote the town.

@@AScottishOdyssey cool :) Im not originally from Maybole so Im not too hot on all the local history, but the church and former graveyard are well worth a nose around. There is also memorial park, which was created by soldiers returning from the war to remember their fallen comrades - it has a golf course, pool and bowling club in it. Theres also the football ground, Greenside (which is like a village green) and a rather nice victorian station....plenty to fill a video for you! :) Have a great week! :)
