Perfect day fishing Eli. I love grilling what Cobia I'm blessed to eat. If you like, my fav way to cook is with a skillet, melted butter sprinkled with lemon pepper, salt & pepper. Breading of choice. Mine is House Aultry. Thanks for your post.

Those hooks your using that keep bending look like the diameter of the shank is round, for freshwater. I've always been told a true saltwater hook the diameter of the hook is square for extra strength. I really don't know, but it has worked for me for years.

Cobia is quite possibly the tastiest critter in the ocean. We catch them at the CBBT and some real nice ones too this past year I had a 50 and 54 pound fish taken on my boat. Those fish were following the Bull Sharks you spotted more than likely.

try par-freezing your catches before you filet them, 30 min - 1 hour depending on size of fish, and your filets will come out like a true pro with no rib meat left on the carcass. Obviously you didn't have this option in your truckbed lol, but if you par freeze and then do the paper towel trick your filets will look professional.

Down in Texas, they use white nylon rope to catch large Gar. Salt-water grade tackle ( they looked like boat rods ) and No hooks at all, just an unravelled portion of a particular type of thin-fibered nylon rope. The fibers get caught in the Gar's teeth and they can be caught. Otherwise, you need a hand-drill to penetrate their jaw.

I haven't used it in a while. It performed to most tasks fine. But there are better performing options if you want to spend more money. If you want to spend less money it's a fine option. I wouldn't bring it as my choice if the striped bass of a lifetime was sitting behind the next boulder in front of me.
