Start with Yakuza 0, then play Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 afterwards. Yakuza 0 is a prequel, but the events of Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2 tie into 0 nicely. 0 also does a fantastic job getting you attached to Yakuza’s world and its characters. I’m brand new to the series myself and am currently on Kiwami 2, these are some of the best games I have ever played.

Hell, I can kind of see snippets of his trailer in my head, and one scene has him just running across a stage alongside the Dragon Quest rep, who he canonically looks up to.
