    Thnk you Paul for proving once and for all that it has nothing (or very little) to do with the type or price of the supplies - it is all skill, study, and hours of hard work you put in to learning! Brilliant work as always.

      Glad it was helpful and thank you. I had mixed feeling about the colour sheets, but the colours are vibrant to use. They felt more like inks rather than watercolours, where I wasn't about to produce anything other than a watery consistency. There are more 'water based' colours. Still, as I said, I was impressed. Thank you for the demonstration of the water colour sheets. The Humming Bird is beautiful. I will probably buy some but keep in mind the advice you have given for using them.

    Your hummingbird is so beautiful! You managed these paints so well! I founs your tips on painting foliage so very useful, thank you. I've had Viviva cokours since 2017, when they ran their Kickstarter. They are dye based and fun to use fir a quicm sketch here and there. I would not replace my traditional (legacy brand) watercokours with these. However, they are fun and playful and I am always happy with supplies that are fun.

      I agree Berolina, I enjoyed playing with these inks, but like you, I will always prefer my watercolours. 😊

    There is a company (Peerless) in the US that offers this type of watercolors. I'm a big fan. They can be messy like these but I love the vibrancy of the colors. You can purchase a 'pallet' like yours or a unbound set of all the available colors in a small reclosable plastic bag. I use latex-type gloves to lay out the colors I want to use. That way I don't stain my fingers as much. Peerless offers U-tube tutorials showing how to use their paints. (No...I'm not affiliated with Peerless)

      Hi Nita, it's good to hear from you. Thank you very much for that, I will head out in a search for Peerless to check out their videos. That is certainly a good tip regarding the latex gloves, I have a box full here due to the current crisis. Paul 🎨

      Someone from Peerless told me to cut a bit off of each sheet, and glue it into a small book. The color is swatched right next to the small bit, and I can carry a very small book, instead of the pack of sheets. No mess either.

    I agree with your assessment. I just recently tried these & had similar issues, after painting I found tiny bits that came off without me noticing & revealed themselves when a touch of water activated them. I purchased so I could paint in my easy chair & tried the water filled brushes as well. I found the water doesn't continue to flow unless you squeeze to release. Very tricky indeed! If you squeeze too hard you get an excessive amount of water & dripping! I will use for doodles but not serious projects. Just my opinion.

      Hi Deb, firstly I just wanted to thank you for coming along to Patreon www.patreon.com/TheDevonArtist that was very kind of you and as you can see, there's now nearly 150 video tutorials to choose from. 😀
      As you know, I had mixed feelings about these paints, they are good for their amazing vivid sparkling and rich results, but on the other hand can also be a little ob the messy side. Plus, I feel they are ink and not watercolours, so blending wasn't really the same.
      Water brushes I feel have their place, I have a few here which companies have sent to me, but no matter how I use them, I just can't get them to flow right.
      All said, it's time for you to get those watercolour paints and brushes on the go, see you on Patreon, Paul 🎨

    They look pretty good if you ask me but I've spent a bit too much lately on my Holbein, mission gold, m.grahm and a few Daniel Smith's. You know, I'm gotta be ready to join your website 😊

    Hi, looks fun but for now I stick to my watercolours
    Lessebo is an old Swedish paper mill, remember visiting as a kid, my dad wanted me to know how paper was made. Good memories 😊. Thanks for the review

    • @TheDevonArtist
      @TheDevonArtist  3 года назад

      Hi Unger, thank you for the information about the paper, I didn't know. It does take the inks quite well. I may try the same paper out with my normal watercolours and see how it goes. Paul 🎨

    Beautiful painting. Thank you for the thorough review. Is it worth getting all the sets? The yellows look limited in the original set...

      It's all a matter of option and personal choice to be honest with you. Even though I did like the vibrancy of the colours, I did find them messy to use, plus these to me are more ink dye based than true watercolours. If I was starting out for the first time I would most likely go for true watercolour paints from a brand name like, Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith and so on. 🤔

      I see what you mean, yes, these would certainly be very handy for portability. you do really need to let them dry before repacking them though, otherwise the colours or sheets may stick together.@@lizcharalambous9150

    Love your review. I have those and the colors are really vibrant (highly pigmented). One thing I have noticed, once you see the white paper … that’s it. It only has a very thin layer of paint. I was only using one portion of the entire paint with the tip of my brush. In short, the watercolor palette won’t last. It will go quick. I love it ❤️ but is it worth it for the price? They said, it will last a long time. But doing a wet on wet technique? What do you think?

    • @TheDevonArtist
      @TheDevonArtist  2 года назад

      Hi Nanette, yes I do agree with what you say, I was a little unsure about the longevity of these waterbased inks, plus you can only really get a watery consistency. I prefer to use various consistencies of paint for my wildlife videos, at least this way you can layer them as well.
      One thing I did like was the vibrancy of the inks, yes, I think that's really what there are. Probably classed as watercolours because it is a colour that uses water, hence water colours? 🤔
      Like you I did have mixed options and I think it can also depend on the style of painting you do, for me as a fine artist, it wasn't quite what I would need. Still, a good product for the right type of artist though. Paul 🎨

    • @nanetteatienza4297
      @nanetteatienza4297 2 года назад +1

      @@TheDevonArtist thank you for the quick response. You are right. It depends on the type of painting you do. I think- this is more on wet on dry technique and on a realistic type of painting (not loose style that will require lots of water). I love it though, because of it’s vibrancy. Great for small details. Haven’t used much of it. Just tested it. Again, thank you. Appreciate your reply and your honest review on the Viviva.

    A "revolution", nah, they are just very VERY flat pans stuck on a piece of paper, and that means not a very big volume of paint. Cheecky marketing if you ask me.
    Do like your art though!
