The number of moves David gives you determines if you will land on the original 4 cards or the added 5 cards. Even number of moves will keep you in the same set of cards, ie. the four original cards. Odd number of moves will change you between sets of cards, like going from the original four card set to the five card set. This makes it easy to remove cards as it would mathematically impossible to be on those removed cards. In the end, David funnels you to the Diner card.
This is even more impressive when you select the Diner at the beginning. That is exactly what I chose 20 years ago when I watched this with my dad. That was CRT television and analog cable broadcast back then. I was so amazed.
I chose that too. It makes sense even in the mystery theme of the trick. Your sitting there eating, you spot the detective you run, he makes parts of the train disappear and you take refuge back into the start of the chase.
koalificated Yes, it makes you believe that you are making choices, but actually you do what they want you to do. This trick was explained on Discovery channel.
If one refers to the four cards that were already there as old cards and those who have joined as new cards, then you will always remain with an even number of steps in the type card where you currently are and in an odd number of steps you can switch from one kind to another kind of cards So you can exclude certain cards in one motion.
You can perform this with 9 playing cards in a 3x3. 1. Start with cards at 2, 4, 6 and 8 only for volunteer to lock in on. 2. Now add the other cards to fill in your 3 by 3. 3. No diagonal moves not skips move 4 places. 4. After removing 9 move 5 places. 5. After removing 6, move 2 more places. 6. Removes 8 and says move 3 places. 7. Removes 3 and 7 and says move 3 places. 8. Removes 2 9. Move once. 10. Removes 1 and 5, you are 4.
So basically, Start off with 4 playing cards at positions 12,3,6 and 9 which creates a diamond shape. 2. Lock volunteer into picking 1 of the 4. 3. Add 5 more cards so that you have 3x3. 4. Instruct rules are no diagonal, just up down and side to side. 5. Move 4 spaces..Back, forth, back forth for example is 4 moves. 6. Magician removes card in 9th position and now has you move 5 spaces. 7. He or she removes card from 6th position and asks you to move 2 spaces 8. Removes card from 8th position and says move 3 spaces. 9. Removes card from 3rd and 7th position and say move 3 spaces. 10. Person is always in the 4th spot.
There are 2 types of cards: (i) edge and (ii) corner/centre. When you're at the edge, moving an even number of times will get you to edge, odd number to corner/centre. When you're at the corner/centre, moving an even number of times will get you to corner/centre, odd number to edge. You start at the edge (1) Move 4 times: edge --> edge You're not at corner so he removes STAFF (2) Move 5 times: edge --> corner/centre You're not at edge so he removes CLUB (3) Move 2 times: corner/centre --> corner/centre You're not at edge so he removes MAIL (4)Move 3 times: corner/centre --> edge (shower or diner) (5)Move 3 times: edge --> corner/centre (bar or engine) (6)Move 1 time: bar or engine --> diner If you don't get diner, it doesn't mean he is wrong. It means you're unable to follow simple instructions.
3:00 yes my finger IS on the club car. Never once does he tell you "Once you leave the car you cant go back" I just simply went back and forth through the same 2 rooms until he removed them.
The only thing that is playing a role in the illusion, if the number of movements that you have to do is even or odd. You can replace any even number by any other number just replace (including zero) and any odd number of movements by any other odd number.

I was not caught. I started on the engine and on the first round I made a loop and ended up at engine again. The next round i moved left, up, right, right, down and landed on clubs. He then said I was not in the club. I win 😐
If you ended up on a removed card you messed up counting and counted your start place as 1 at least one time (I did this numerous times looking for a pattern and route in which I could break the trick), don't do that.
The STAFF car wasn't one of the original four he asked you to start on, so you fucked up. Your choices at the onset were: SHOWER, DINER, CLUB, or MAIL. See 1:57
Imagine the 9 cards are in a checkerboard pattern, say black and white tiles. At first only four were up, say the black cards, and that’s when David asked the player to select one. Then he put up the remaining cards (all white) but at that moment he knew everyone was on a black card. He then asks everyone to move either an odd or even number of spaces. An odd number means the card you land on will be the opposite color from where you started; an even number means the color will be the same as where you started. Since everyone started on a black card, at every stage of the game, David knows whether everyone is on a black or a white card based on the number of moves he’s had us make. So he can safely remove cards of the opposite color, eventually cornering the players to whatever card he wants by slowly removing options.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. THERE IS EMOTIONS TO DESCRIBE MY FEELINGS NOW 1. AMAZED 2. SPOOKED 3. FREAKED OUT 4. jesusu christ. Now... WHO LANDED ON THE DINER LAST.
Este fue mi favorito de todos los programas que pasaban de la magia de David Copperfield ❤.

“He will never find me in the place I first was. I’m a genius!😜”
if you weren't at the diner then you didn't follow the instructions. the trick is designed to put you on the diner card no matter what you do
koalificated Yes, it makes you believe that you are making choices, but actually you do what they want you to do. This trick was explained on Discovery channel.
Holy shit when i were 10, I had to go to the doctor after i had watched this video
This is another great trick that i remember ❤😊

This is incredible ♥
For Americans its MAGIC for Europeans its Math.
For Asians, it's not even math, it's a 100% possibilty trick

Moc gratulujeme mnohokrát krásné díky patří vám hodně štěstí
I played this when it aired. My friends also played at home. We all chose different cards but he found each of us. How tf? 🤔
There are 2 types of cards: (i) edge and (ii) corner/centre.

When you're at the corner/centre, moving an even number of times will get you to corner/centre, odd number to edge.
You start at the edge
(1) Move 4 times: edge --> edge
You're not at corner so he removes STAFF
(2) Move 5 times: edge --> corner/centre
You're not at edge so he removes CLUB
(3) Move 2 times: corner/centre --> corner/centre
You're not at edge so he removes MAIL
(4)Move 3 times: corner/centre --> edge (shower or diner)
(5)Move 3 times: edge --> corner/centre (bar or engine)
(6)Move 1 time: bar or engine --> diner
If you don't get diner, it doesn't mean he is wrong. It means you're unable to follow simple instructions.
I followed everything, but I got bar oop
@@miekie3164 That means you didn't follow instructions. Most likely you didn't start at one of the 4 at 1:56.
@@StephenWong14 I did thoughh💀
@@miekie3164 Would you mind telling me where you start and how you arrive at bar?
@@StephenWong14 started at mail. I followed instructions and ended up at the bar

Yes you can just go back and forth. But you've definitely miscounted.
You messed up dummy i started on club and moved backed and form between bag and club always. I was not on club when he removed it

I was actually in/on the toilet
Then you did something wrong
This is unbelievable
Khanh Nguyen I absolutly agree. The fact that he is DEAD and does this is just... unbelivably amazing.
I DID IT TWICE THE WHOLE THING. HE DID IT DIFFERENT. HE GOT ME ANYWAYS. THE VIDEO IS CHANGING THROUHG OUT THE TIME. WTFF
The illusion of choice
If you started in the bar you could have ended up in the staff car right? or am I wrong?
In which Tv show was this game showed? Someone know the year it was showed?

ok thanks I was really confused!!!
He got it right
I reverse engineered it just now
I was not caught. I started on the engine and on the first round I made a loop and ended up at engine again. The next round i moved left, up, right, right, down and landed on clubs. He then said I was not in the club. I win 😐
Your instructions is to choose among the 4 at 2:01 to start, which DOESN'T include the engine.
@@StephenWong14 fare enough, I was wrong
i got the diner when my mom showed me this i cried questioned how he did that

Holy shit it work!!!! He guessed it!
Omfg !! Howd he do thatt !!!
Everytime I touch the screen the video pauses. 😅
Lol theres a similar trick thats he's done and he got me on both. The match involved in this one though seems a little more complicated
If you start on the Staff car and move four times to the left and back you end up on Staff card and he removes it.
You can't start on the Staff car because you can only pick the Diner, Mail, Shower or Club car in the beginning.
Clearly you didn't follow the instructions. You weren't supposed to start on the staff car.
The STAFF car wasn't one of the original four he asked you to start on, so you fucked up. Your choices at the onset were: SHOWER, DINER, CLUB, or MAIL. See 1:57
it worked! I was freaking-out!
dont exactly know how it's done but it's all just math and sequence

okay that's sick... was i the only one who started on the diner card ?
