With all due respect, the Leek is a light-duty knife at best. You would never try to hard-use a Leek.. The results of this test do not surprise me in the slightest.
***** CS test all their knives this way. They are just comparing competitors knives that are similar in size & weight to their standard tests they do on ALL their knives. Heck, the CS knife is lighter weight than the Leek & doesn't even have any metal liners. Bottom line is, a weak lock is a weak lock no matter what knife it is on. I'm not a CS fanboy, I don't even own any of their knives...yet. But, what I have learned from watching these great videos it that the CS knives have one hell of a locking mechanism. No way to dispute that.
Tim Schmidt I like CS and own many....BUT a weight hang test is kind of silly (imho) and does not prove that a liner lock, integral frame lock, bolt lock or bearing lock etc. is a poor choice. It all comes down to build quality and using the tool for it's intended purpose.
Iron Barr I see these knives like I see other weapons, you don't look down upon a pistol for not being able to hit a target a mile away; you just realize it's not going to do the job.
***** If all you had was a Leek when you needed a knife, you'd use it for whatever situation came up. This is why versatility and reliability important. Anyhow, these videos mostly just prove some common misconceptions wrong, such as "It's a locking folding knife, it'll never close on me!".
Just ordered my holdout 3 in ctsxhp today. I went back and forth between the spyderco native 5 lightweight and the holdout 3. They are very similar in weight and blade geometry (full flat ground). That triad lock though it strikes again haha.
Well... it's a first comparison that has totally failed. Leek is a gentleman-light-duty-office-knife or whatever you wanna call it. It has a handle made out of steel because it's supposed to be elegant not because it's tough or practical.
I always loved my Kershaw Leek. Great little knife for the price. Really smooth and satisfying opening mechanism, nice weight and fit in the hand. Very good sharpness out of the box. I need to get another because the tip broke off my last when using it how I shouldn't have been.
We have yet to see a button lock tested in the Cold Steel gauntlet. I'd love to see the Hogue EX-01 aluminum handle button lock with manual safety tested. Thank you!
I like cold steel but I also really like my leek. Tip broke off so I made it into a modified Sheeps foot. Spring assist finally slowed after years so I took it out and found out the spring was broke almost all the way through. It still goes with me on duty though.
I wonder if the older style Liner lock Leek like I have would have passed. I could not BELIEVE the leek passed those spine whacks. its a slim gentlements folder at its toughest. My first knife I every bought haha.
What does back pressure matter? That’s cold steel trying to sell a product to people that’s not in the real world, we use knives in our hands cutting edge down with force, not cutting edge up and force not being a smartass but this test is about the strength in backward motion am I missing something ?
@@jamesstrickland2872 Well... cold steel kinda markets most of their knives for "hard use" and when you are chopping, or hitting stuff, theoretically you could back swing into the spin, and the knife closes on your fingers... so its meant to be more "safe"

I'd love,to,see you test the buck 830 marksman with the straplock I think it will do well maybe even beat a triad not sure but I think it could be close

I appreciate the tri ad lock In the fact that it's so strong but I can't like it. the opening just doesn't feel as good a Framelock running on bearings and there's no flippers. If there was a tri ad lock flipper that would be awesome I know it's probably impossible tho
I would love to see how Cold Steel compares to some of the customs out there I think they would do wel,l if not better, than some of the pricy customs that are out there.
+ninja29mv Comparing a production knife to a custom knife is pointless. The performance will be similar and go back and forth in different categories, they are both just knives. Should of compared it against the 1870 knockout or 1678 camber.
is it possible to test a sebenza sometime...i think its a bit of an overrated knife...its beautifull...its well designed but the best folder out there?....lets see the lock first
+piet jansen It would lose to a Cold Steel easily. If I had to do a job with a knife, I much sooner grab a Cold Steel... but I much rather carry a Sebenza. The Sebenza warrants it's popularity, it is almost a cornerstone of the higher end knife world. It has been around for over 20 years, was the first knife to popularize the frame lock, and in many ways was one of the first modern, single locking bladed, one hand opening, pocket knives. It is built to a very high level of quality and designed to last generations, heavy use is not what it was ever intended for.
i understand the craftmanship of a sebenza...its a well designed knife as i said...fact is that i never saw it go through some serious testing....sebanza is for showing your friends at a party or putting it on display...cold steel is for opening a can of fruit when no can opener is around...cold steel is for batoning when no fixed blade or axe is around..ive done things with my recon folder thats never been done with a sebenza...if its done...do tell me or better yet...show me
piet jansen Yeah I would never use a Sebenza for that, same reason you would not pick a Ferrari to go off roading with. When I know I am going to be using my knife a lot one day, I tend to grab one of my Cold Steels as well. But in general I carry my ZTs, Bokers, Spydercos, Al Mar, ect.. more. I do not own a Sebenza, yet at lest.
i understand and respect that...but we probably buy knives for different reasons...im more a prepper kind of collector...so if i only have a folder...i want it to be able to do lots of things
piet jansen I would never buy a knife just for show. My non-Cold Steel knives may not hold 300Lb... but in my many years of carrying knives, I have never had to even put 10Lb of pressure on one. All of my other knives are just as strong and capable in practical use. Cold Steels are good though for heavy use because it is good to have that buffer zone in case something extremely unexpected happens.
"People requested to see this comparison". Lol. What do you knife newbees expect to see happen? Everybody knows that the triad lock is extremely STIFF and strong. "If they can't pass these tests with flying colors, they are not put into production", in the first place. Once again apples and oranges are being compared. I have all three Holdouts in Aus 8, and a couple of Leeks. The Leek is a classy, gentleman's knife, used for light cutting. It has a wharncliffe blade, and a needle sharp tip that you he to be careful with. The Leek is a collectable, CLASSIC available in many colors, handle materials, and steels. The Hold Out is no Leek. It is an excellent, small, hard use knife that used to be affordable, in Aus 8. Unfortunately, now it costs $70+ due to the "requested" steel upgrade. You can still find the 3 inch Aus 8 model for $25-$30 if you hurry.
construction wise i think most chinese clones and low budget knives are built sturdier than most kershaws under $75. just...flimsy. i'm disappointed, spent good money for otherwise good designs. got 2 more cs on the way though. can't wait for the 4" talwar and the long awaited finn wolf to kick my voyagers and code 4 out of the pocket. around the neck though it's a tie (no pun intended) between all the mini tac models. cs - going strong!
Tactical X-Rays I agree, I have quite a few cheap folders and they passed testing way better than a Blur. But hey, at least the Blur is "ultra smooth" and you have to put like, zero effort into releasing the lock! I mean, we all have rubber fingers, right! So hard to use fingers. No offense to those who actually have issues using their digits, but they usually aren't the ones complaining. They should probably get an Arc-lock folder.
I only trust Cold Steel knives because I have a blood disorder. Weak and dull knives scare me in the same sense that a low platelet count does. These other manufacturers are really scaring me in the facet that they do not seem to care about their products in the same way that the Cold Steel team does.
Can you tell your stupid camera man to zoom in on the weight tests? You can't see the blades when he's zoomed out, it's a test about the blades after all right?
well i have a folding knife its a everyday carry but its a full joke its gonna broke if i hit someone i wanna buy cold steel product but im on a budget if someone can head me of to something cheap and godd
Dude most of the review your standing so far away we cant see what your talking about. Why would you stand 10 feet from the camera so we can't even see what the knives look like. Come on dude why are you waisting people's time!?
These videos are blahh, to long, p.s. I put a 60$CS leatherneck tanto vs 20$Scheffield Rouge, blade to blade and just smashed them together tit for tat, and the tanto broke in half!!! Still choping down trees with the rouge. To each his own!
Most useless test yet! CS keeps outdoing itself with completely worthless tests, especially against the Leek. And funny how CS has suddenly become a steel snob, given they have always been way behind in that department.
***** and you alienated yourself from the knife community in the process with a nonsense lawsuit and gimmicky tests (how about a cut test?). I own several CS knives and have always thought the quality was good and I am a person who spends a lot of money on my knife collection. But hey, that is the free market and I have chosen not to invest in CS products anymore.
***** the problem is you ask too much from a knife. I don't think I've ever heard anyone soon they're looking for a knife I can hold 600 pounds. In one another very trusted company comes along you guys just try to tear them down

I'mNotFucking HereRightNow the kershaw leek is also ungodly thin everywhere.
I'm surprised at the spine whack test, especially after the pm2 failed lol

i understand the craftmanship of a sebenza...its a well designed knife as i said...fact is that i never saw it go through some serious testing....sebanza is for showing your friends at a party or putting it on display...cold steel is for opening a can of fruit when no can opener is around...cold steel is for batoning when no fixed blade or axe is around..ive done things with my recon folder thats never been done with a sebenza...if its done...do tell me or better yet...show me
piet jansen Yeah I would never use a Sebenza for that, same reason you would not pick a Ferrari to go off roading with.
A 40 dollar knife vs a 70 dollar knife no surprise
Pls Test the Spyderco Endura VG10 4 FRN vs Cold Steel Counter Point I
Both pointy! Good comparison.
so no Adamas?
please do rat worx mrx vs swift 1
ADAMAS! ADAMAS! ADAMAS! ADAMAS! ADAMAS!
Don´t show clips, deliver the new stuff!!!....waiting for half a year, what´s the matter ?!?!
не буду с переводом трудиться, но сравнивать легкий, тонкий, с деликатным клинком нож с крепышем, довольно сомнительное действие...
When kershaw makes shitty products, do they inform their customers that they could be injured?
tallswede80 What is it you're trying to do?
CSharp
What do you mean?
construction wise i think most chinese clones and low budget knives are built sturdier than most kershaws under $75. just...flimsy. i'm disappointed, spent good money for otherwise good designs.
got 2 more cs on the way though. can't wait for the 4" talwar and the long awaited finn wolf to kick my voyagers and code 4 out of the pocket.
around the neck though it's a tie (no pun intended) between all the mini tac models.
cs - going strong!
Tactical X-Rays
I agree, I have quite a few cheap folders and they passed testing way better than a Blur.
Cold steel is the best knives.
the leek is amazing!
WHY U NEVER REVIEW A MICROTECH OR LION STEEL ??? ARE U AFRAID TO LOSE ?
+csknives Those are called question marks, fyi :)
***** maybe so, maybe so....Now...do I get a prize? lol
Dude most of the review your standing so far away we cant see what your talking about. Why would you stand 10 feet from the camera so we can't even see what the knives look like. Come on dude why are you waisting people's time!?
just for giggles... Sog fixation bowie vs Cold Steel voyager xl
넘 멀리서찍었네
By does. Old steel always win
i like your knives but the guy in the videos is arrogant and all he does is bash other knife company.
These videos are blahh, to long, p.s. I put a 60$CS leatherneck tanto vs 20$Scheffield Rouge, blade to blade and just smashed them together tit for tat, and the tanto broke in half!!! Still choping down trees with the rouge. To each his own!
Opinel vs kudu
In one another very trusted company comes along you guys just try to tear them down
***** what about San Mai? That's been around and available for over 25 years. Weren't they the first American firm to offer laminated steel?
machine useless!!!
@csknives Cold Steel AK-47/Recon 1 vs Benchmade Adamas, make it happen!! Also Recon XL vs Spyderco Tatanka, you know you want to.
