Are you happy with the visual quality of PSVR2?
Depends on game, me who wanted to play GT7 only I’m angry, pissed and amazed at the same time. Can’t race without of VR now but image is just to blurry or I had to much expectations…
Not :/
I am! I've used Quest 2 for Sim racing and I'm happy with the PSVR2. There is a trade-off for VR vs Flat Screen, yes the visual fidelity will not match a 1440p or 4k Screen, but the immersion is so much better. IMO your so immersed in the game you tend to forget about the image quality as much. I'll use this analogy - If your watching a great movie and it's in black & white, it's still a great movie :)
Great analogy Andrew, thing is I don't think a lot of people were aware they were going to be buying a black and white movie
Absolutely. For this price range this is so awesome device!
Picked mine up today, absolutely blown away at how good it is, except that I feel like it has the soft focus filter on. You lose the sharpness of the tv. This is my first VR headset, and I’m in no way disappointed, I think I was expecting the tv screen quality, so it’s a bittersweet experience in some ways. Having said that, the 3D feel and the depth of vision is just incredible! So much more more immersive,it has totally changed the feeling of races. Also it’s the first time through eu rouge I have felt my stomach sink! Amazing stuff.
4K VR gives a 720p like experience. That means you were lucky to avoid PSVR1 because the 1080p screen gave us a 480p experience. PSVR2 is the threshold when it becomes “good enough” but PS6/PSVR3 and beyond is when it becomes great as your gameplay will be an 8K 1080p experience.
@@oppa1319 no
You guys use sharpness when playing on the TV? I always have the sharpness level on the lowest number, either at 0 or at 1, nothing more. Looks more better to me and prefer it to have low for playing video games.
@@oppa1319 I think the resolution is very close to 4k, but it's the film door effect(I think that's what its called) that makes it look '720p'. Once we get a headset with PSVR2 specs that eliminates the grainy screen door effect, the image will be almost completely matching 4k clarity. Maybe such headset is already on PC but I dont know.
Onestly mate, the title is a little bit clickbait
He’s been doing a lot of these clickbait titles man. Can tell someone’s hungry for views 🙂
First time viewer. Last time viewer. 👎
Where is the fix? Lmao
@@passionaviation1741 exactly
Yeah, but I did find (if u haven't figured it out already) that if u find ur sweet spot with wearing the headset leave ur brightness at max,go to settings while in one of ur cars,go to textures (I believe) set ur EV all the way up n saturation all the way down n it looks crystal clear absolutely beautiful!!👍
I think the best way for me to describe the visual (for GT7) is like being mildly near sighted and driving without wear glasses.
FYI, the lint sheet effect you mention is called screendoor effect when describing it in common VR terminology. Unfortunately, this is still common in pretty much all current consumer VR headsets (to varying degrees - Pimax Crystal may be the first to truely eliminate it), and it is associated with a lack of pixel density or in panel terminology, pixels per inch (PPI). So, just so everyone knows, THIS type of blurriness, or flaw/limitation, is not exclusive to PSVR 2. However, what you are getting regarding PPI, is still within the range of your typical mid to high end PC VR headset, and after my experiences owning one of the first consumer grade Oculus Rifts, a Pimax 5K+ and currently a Pimax 8KX, during actual use/gameplay, this screendoor effect will fade away to the point that you won't notice it at all. So yes, obviously, don't expect this to be as sharp as a 1440p monitor, but for the majority, especially those that have not used high end VR before (and even those that have), the clarity of this headset will be more than enough for a highly enjoyable and immersive experience. Especially with it's currently exclusive OLED HDR panels. Enjoy everyone! 🙂
This helped me.... I was a bit naive expecting same quality as my oled 4k set and it is still a bit (soft focus) if that makes sense... miles better than vr1 though
He's talking about mura, not screendoor. Mura is always in the same position. It's a calibration problem with oled. Screendoor is the area between pixels which Psvr2 does a really good job with.
First time VR user and I must say it’s very impressive. I too fortunately have all Thrustmaster gear so it was a no brainer. Having the depth perception of the vehicles around you and actually feeling like your on the track is surreal. Stream Strong Kieth
Do you see GT7 blurry as some people are saying, cause they sound like is so blurry is unplayable. I don't see it blurry at all...I have played PCVR Sim racing and GT7 looks great and is pretty impressive and competes with some PCVR racing games.
@@GandRpictures I know the blurring they’re talking about but for me it’s easy adjusting the head unit and it’s sort of looking at the correct direction even if you have to turn your entire head towards where your looking
Anyone else with a PSVR2 have these little moments of about 1 to 2 seconds, where you are filled with this odd feeling that you are actually on a real circuit, you can quite literally feel the sun's heat and smell the air? I've only gotten it twice in 6 hours of gameplay, the best time happening on the Ring. That alone was worth the setup. Incredible feeling to have
Yep when the sun comes out 🙌🙌
@@Kireth exactly my experience too. Subscribed! Thanks for the awesome content 👏
Thanks man!!
On the 22nd there was hundreds of videos all named gt7 psvr2 is amazing. All with blown away faces in the thumbnails next day hundreds of videos with concerned faces about picture blurr. Not one mention from a sole day 1. A lot of mixed messages being put out.
RUclipsrs and their thirst for clicks and views. 🤦🏾♂️ it’s time to start narrowing down trustworthy RUclips reviewers.
I'm absolutely loving my PSVR 2! Takes a while to find the sweet spot, but after a few times doing it, it becomes very quick and easy. I REALLY wish the screen door effect or whatever it's called wasnt there, because then the image truly would look 4k clear(or very close at least). Definitely not as bad people have been saying, but if it wasnt there, it would be much better. Overall I'm extremely impressed. Massive upgrade from my PSVR1
I got mine yesterday. First time using VR, played gr7 for an hour was not impressed with the picture quality.(lots of reviews keep talking about 4k lenses and superbe resolution which they might compare to the old psvr but I have never played it)This morning I took the time to adjust it better and same as what you are saying you are so close to the lenses that you don’t get a 4 k resolution perception, maybe 1080p sitting close to the tv feeling. This morning tho I got really immersed in it and love it. I did an hour race again and I got way faster towards the end and less contact with the other cars.
I don’t regret the purchase.
I expected a bit better visual quality but the upside of playing in VR is just huge so it really doesn’t matter that much. Also, the visual quality of gt7 on a flat screen os arguably the best in any racing game, so the comparison is somewhat unfair. Bottom line is that I am not going back to flat screen for gt7
Have you got one? The visuals on the screen is nowhere near the fidelity with the headset on.
VR2 heaps better flat screens boring in comparison👍
It's not just the fact that ur close to the screen, your looking through a magnification lens, and each eye sees 2000×2040, so each eye is getting dramatically lower resolution then 3840×2160, your eyes will see this as closer to 1080 or even lens due to magnification, on top of that some of the more demanding titles won't be hitting native resolution so it will appear even softer of an image, and the use of oled means more space between subpixels and that can cause screen door reflect so sony uses a diffusion filter to reduce that and in turn has a softer image as well
4K in VR is like a 720p experience. So you will need 8K VR on PS6 to get a 1080p experience.
Hyped up too much werent. RUclipsrs makin out its as good as on a screen. I was so disappointed
Yes, you are actually correct on that analogy. It is a see through lint sheet, especially if you focus on stationery dark places while moving.
Also, yesterday it was just my first day, maybe I need to find a better sweet spot.
Btw, my first VR experience.
And please, please new VR players, follow these steps in GT7:
Choose a slow convertible.
take it for a slow spin on a familiar track.
Feel the speed, slowly grow in to it.
After that, try to full on race that slow convertible.
When you are use to it, change to a faster car.
Grow the speed in to you, and you will have no problems
Cheers to everyone and enjoy
Not blurry for me it looks fantastic, could not wish for a better experince😊😍 make sure to set it up right
I ordered mine back in November on a whim . I don't regret it one bit . Also don't use any chemicals to clean the lenses as you can damage them .
fully agree with everything you said about visual fidelity.
I am going from 1080p TV to PSVR2and even on that you can see the difference (even though it is a lot smaller than from a 4k or 1440p monitor)
However, in GT7's favour, the extra sense of speed you get and the depth perception outweighs this for me.
Appreciate the clarifications here Kireth!
I have tried VR once before (I think it may have been using a Valve Index) at a gaming convention - and you're absolutely right in the sense that the sharpness of the image is not as good as on a standard monitor!
I think this is purely due to our eyes being so close to the screen and the pixels therefore appearing larger, I reckon there's not really a way around it until the fundamental screen technology improves.
That being said, I imagine that the sense of immersion and depth perception more than make up for the slight loss in sharpness.
Hopefully I'll be able to get a VR headset of my own one day!
Great insight!
Palmer Luckey ex-oculus founder once said we'd need 16k screens for VR before we had 'retina' quality comparable to normal screens. I love my PSVR2 but having owned loads of PC HMDs I knew that '4k' wasn't going to look like 4k most of the time due to how close it is to the eyes, the dot pitch and the lenses. Mura I expected and can overlook it somewhat (OLED panel uniformity - worth it to me for the inky blacks vs my LCD HMDs), I find GT7 very compelling in VR and have put more hours in on day 1 and 2 (10 hours total) than I ever put in on past HMDs inc PSVR1 in 2 days because it's a slick system easy to get into and, generally, feels great when you have the sweet spot sorted.
The distance 'blurriness' is not just the HMD though, it's the game downscaling or lowering the Anti Aliasing to run fast enough, which is the only let-down as I thought with foveated rendering they could run the game itself at full quality and just downscale the rest where you're not looking... I think in RE8's case they should have been more aggressive with the non focus area and kept better AA/Graphics quality going. That said, it wasn't built for VR from the start as you can see from some objects and textures (low res/misplaced) but generally can look awesome when it hits just right. It feels like it delivers on the promise my Vive had (my first roomscale HMD) back when I was crawling and walking around in VR, it was janky and low res with awful god rays... in PSVR2 it finally feels 'acceptable level' to take VR seriously for AAA gaming. Parts of RE8 in VR feel like I'm a Spielberg movie and is very often sharp and as vivid as on screen depending on what's in view and the lighting. OLED blacks remain great where dark rooms through open doorways look real and spooky vs the grey mush of LCD HMDs like my quest 2.
I'm noticing in RE8 for example the in-game resolution seems 'downscaled' in the distance, a good bit of shimmer/aliasing and jitter (poss from the reprojection) but I get used to it, because at times it looks like the best stuff I've seen in gaming VR all things considered (inc the controller and head haptics). I think it's going to do great in the long run esp with more AAA games (Wipeout please Sony!), but accept that for some they may want to still wait for PSVR3 or 4... 14 years away .. but if we want VR to succeed in general we should all try it NOW and work through the flaws for the many many positives it brings to gaming.
It was worth the £500 for me for GT7 alone, even if I never played anything else, but RE:Village has been awesome so far (played it flat before - half way), feels way more like I give AF what's going on now and I'm soaking up all the little details.
For ref: Until now I've been playing GT7 and all of my PS5 stuff (for around a year) on a 65" LG 4k OLED with a very good PQ. GT7 looks amazing on the TV and still looks very good in PSVR2 esp when things are up close like the rear of other cars, it looks basically 'as good' as my TV when the screen is full of close pixels, and the OLED colours/Black/HDR of PSVR2 really help the game feel solid vs my LCD HMDS.
I watched Kireth stream yesterday, also I played both Kayak and GT7 and difference is like night and day! Kayak is just amazing in colour sharpnes and everything, GT7 is just not there, it is best experince I ever had, but picture is just to blury…
Sims push the capabilities of most vr headsets. An excellent headset should be judged and tested as to whether it can play a simulator like GT7 smoothly and clearly consistently. Don’t bring it out to market until it can.
I must have weird eyes then cause GT7 is not blurry to me.
@@GandRpictures how do you see it then explain to us? Is it crystal clear 4k hdr?
@@LisakRacing The total resolution is 4K but it is split...you are looking at a 2k x 2k presentation. It looks great with the HDR and its foolish to expect a 4K HDR TV experience on a VR headset righ now with this price. As a PCVR Gamer that had Oculus Rift CV1 and is coming off a Quest 2 I understand that, the full view of a VR headset will not look sharp...all around the edges have always been blurry. So for me GT7 looks great and I can see far off while driving.
The only con for me is that it does have some screen door effect...it is much better than PSVR1.
1st time VR user here as well. Completely blown away and impressed with how awesome it is. I sound like a crazy person talking to friends and family about racing in VR, but I don't care.
Like you said it's mostly just finding that sweet spot to get rid of the bluriness Making sure the headband fits tight before adjusting the optics is key.
Nice one Kavinsky!!
Kayake Mirage is for me the best game for immersion especially when you go past the dog . It looks so real .
I don't have PSVR2 or GT7 but i play with a oculus quest 2 and Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2 and AMS2 on PC. I built my workstation with triple monitors for work needs (i work in game dev) and bought the oculus quest for VR sculpting in apps like Medium and Gravity sketch. I've always played racing games since i can remember and always with a controller so it took me a bit to go "wait a minute, i can use this machine to play racing games too" so when i got a wheel for myself and tried out AC both in triple screen and VR i was blown away and kinda punched myself for not realising this sooner. Fast forward a year and a half later, the experience was so compelling i'm putting together a racing game prototype and since i have a wheel and a VR headset already i can test my prototype with those myself.
I haven't tried the PSVR2 but yes, the "blurryness" or lack of sharpness you have in VR headsets is due to the screen panels used, the distance of those to your eyes, the lens geometry, the position of the headset on your head and the way the game renders for VR. This you are describing is also true for any other VR headsets. Some do a better job than others to give a clearer picture but the game and hardware behind are also big factors too.
One of the big problems of VR (to put it very simply) is that you need high refresh rates and low screen latency for a good experience and you need to render things effectively twice. Of course rendering twice it's not completely true because there are tricks under the hood to optimize this but the hardware you need to run a game in VR mode needs to be relatively beefy. It's computationally less intensive to run a game in 1440p with high settings than a VR headset with lower settings. For example if i run AC in triple screen i run a resolution of 7680x1440 and i average between 90 and 120fps depending on the track with relatively high settings and mods, while i have to turn down quality to run the VR at a stable 90fps.
As time goes on, picture quality will inevitably increase. Be that there is more computing power available or the games are better optimized for VR because of more widespread adoption and thus cheaper and better hardware too as a consequence. Foveated rendering combined with eye tracking might be one of the directions VR might take. The human eye has the highest concentration of receptors at the centre of the retina. On the periphery of your retina the amount of receptors is lower so effectively the most amount of detail and color in your vision is at the centre of it while the periphery of your vision has much less definition and color perception. This is the result of evolution: the centre of your eye is to help you locate prey, distinguish things and see details, while the periphery of your vision is for motion and danger detection. The eyes are a direct extension of your brain and spinal cord: that's why you'd jump if a snake would enter your peripheral vision before you even fully realise it's a snake, your spinal cord is sending signals to your body to get away because it's faster to react than the brain. That being said we can use this knowledge to make better VR headsets. A foveated rendering (meaning the game renders the highest detail at the centre of the screen and less on the periphery) with eye tracking can allow the VR headset to mimic how the human eye works and align the highest render resolution with the center of your retinas so that when you move your eyes around the disconnect between what you see and should see is minimal. This can allow for the highest immersion and much better picture quality. Flexible screens can be another way to cover for peripheral vision. Having a screen wrapping around your eyes in a way that covers most of your natural field of view can allow for better immersion and can get rid of the need for lenses - you could just glance on your side to check your mirrors without having to move your head too much as of now the limited FOV current headset have will force you to move your head way more than you would do naturally IRL.
In conclusion: VR tech is getting better and better as time goes on. It might not be perfect right now but the feeling of being inside a car and being able to have much better depth perception honestly to me is worth more than graphics quality. Like you say, i would recommend everyone interested in buying a VR headset to first try it on. If you have a friend that has one, you might want to ask them if you can try it for a few days at least. Positioning the headset right is by far the most important thing for a decent image quality as the sweet spot on the VR lenses is quite small and that can make all the difference between a good and bad experience with VR (also i have glasses so keeping the VR lenses and my glasses clean helps a lot). When i first used the Oculus Quest 2 i was a bit disappointed by the blurryness of it but after spending some time to get the position and settings right i have to say i have nothing to complain about for what i can get out of it: I can race with it, test game prototypes and sculpt. Another reason you might want to try it is to see if you're affected by motion sickness as some people might need some getting used to before they can spend long portions of time with the headset on. Regarding the PSVR2 in particular, i'm happy to hear it performs well. As more people start adopting VR headsets, more racing games will start to embrace the tech too.
Thank you for writing this insight down.
Incredible insight, I'll repost this 🙌🙌🙌
Thanks for the honest reviews and clarification Kireth (and a lot of great comments posted). You've helped me go into this informed and with an open mind..ordered one last night. At least I won't have over blown expectations!
There are no complaints from me. I love GT 7 in vr. I'm impressed with the visuals. I still love and play Driveclub every now and then. GT 7 vr is what I consider a massive upgrade from Driveclub. That blurriness is not as bad as it was on Driveclub vr. I give GT 7 vr a 9/10. GT Sport vr was just a waste of time.
Driveclub PS4 ou PS4Pro version?
@cesarmuller8962 The Pro Version. You have to played Driveclub vr and GT Soort vr to really appreciate GT 7!!!

I actually played it on the regular PS4, I never had the chance to play it in VR, I'm even watching some gameplay now.
Would you say it's the sharpness of a PS3 but with PS5 graphics?
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!
retroprojection from 60 to 120hz is the problem
At last.an honest tuber.thanks for being truthfully.youre the 1st to admit it.thought it was me eyes 😆 🤣 😂
The point this video is making is 100% accurate and in hindsight, I don't know how you properly set consumer expectations for that without them demoing it first hand. I think once I was aware that the slight softness is expected, it allowed me to enjoy the experience that much more.
I think it is also important to remember that this game was built with VR in mind, but not built 100% for VR, and therefore there are still parts of the game that aren't 100% optimal for VR. For instance, the UI that appears when in the VR cockpit is WAY larger and clearer than the UI that appears when in cinema mode (that is, most of the menus pre-race). If this was a 100% VR racing game, I'm sure they would have prioritized certain elements to be more focused/more easily seen in VR (i.e. making the marker boards bigger/more pronounced).
I think sharpness can be the term. The sharpness of the image is not that high to make you amazed by the crispness of the visuals. I also get one PSVR2 on hand. By far the best game I'm playing is GT7. As to Horizon, it still feels a bit dizzy when climbing. I'm hesitating whether to re-sell PSVR2 to others or not.
Sounds fair!
Dude! Switchback vr is coming out march 15 and has gotten praise by many RUclipsrs and journalists. It’s the sequel the the until dawn shooter on psvr. This game looks amazing. The graphics the weather affects plus the eye tracking technology makes it even more scary. I highly suggest holding on. If your into those games but more are coming. Besides it’s not like rift or valve have anything spectacular either with the exception of half life. I think the psvr2 will push for more aaa vr games plus res village is in vr. I haven’t even opened my box yet cause I’m busy. I bought this thinking switchback was releasing same day but I’ll wait. U never know if there will be a shortage and good games come around so yea just give it time. I do agree the library is very lacking and they had almost a decade to be ready for games on this device. The kayak game looks fun though?
@@vincenzovieri3743 I'm gonna buy it, I loved rush of blood on PSVR1.. I'm just hoping they have made the lighting esp good for PSVR2 to lessen the effect of the MURA which shows more in the dark (like this game) but only when the light hits from the side more... in RE8 I can have bad mura or zero mura (both in dark/pitch black scenes) and it's due to lights in the scene creeping into the blackness to make them more like grey so then the OLED uniformity issues crop up and some pixels are brighter than others or slightly different colours which = mura... but when they are off (black) they look amazing!
This is explained perfectly. The example of Lint Sheet nails the issue perfectly. I think over time you notice it less. The REAL ISSUE is reviewers and some streamers labeled this is crystal clear 4k screens in the headset. Very misleading. I’m curious if Sony requires them to say this to get a test headset…
Just got the psv2 and I love it! The motion sickness is hell though 😂
Getting my psvr2 tommorow loved the psvr1. People have to understand anything you bring close to your eyes will get distorted for example bringyour eyes close to your tv it will be distorted its so important to calibrate headset before each use its a pain but its worth it makes a big difference. Also if you wear glasses use them in the headset. Once you hit the sweet spot it will become easier to adjust every time you use it
The wipes absolutely agree. I am using a suede one from a cellphone screenprotector
I received mine on launch and I think it’s amazing… is it a little blurry sure, but it’s still amazing… takes your breath away the first time you see your car in the garage…
Also, You only need to wear glasses of you are short-sighted. So if you need glasses for distance, wear them :)
Exactly bro, I’m wearing contact lenses or glasses while playing, because images at the distance are super blurry to me.. it’s not much it’s -1.25 on both eyes but it’s so called cylinder…
I love it so far, like I said before this my favorite experience for racing game!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like the people being confused are more confused because of the pixelation and the low resolution on things in the periphery of the image.
In which case, that's intentional. The PSVR2 has eye tracking, so it knows where you're looking. And it therefore uses a technique called foveated rendering, where it dynamically drops the resolution of everything outside of a small circle where you're currently looking. The human eye does the same thing; there's a very small cone of vision where things are pin sharp, and everything outside of that small area falls off drastically in detail. But we obviously can't see that, because we can't move our vision without moving our eyes. With foveated rendering though, it has to track your eye first, and particularly at 60fps, it might be a bit slow to update the image, leading to it seeming blurry if your eyes are darting around everywhere.
Have you tried it without capturing, at 120fps? Because 120 will obviously lend you greater motion clarity in general. But it might also speed up the foveated rendering tracking, allowing it to keep up with how swiftly your eyes are darting around the image, leading to less blur for you.
Meanwhile, your capture will basically always have the pixelation and blurring, because we as the viewer of your recording can't actually predict where your eyes are going to be looking. So there will be times where we look at one part of the image, while you were looking at another, so we'll be looking at the lower resolution sections outside of the foveated rendering cone.
Hopefully that makes sense, and doesn't come off as "Umm, actually.". I'm just surprised you haven't mentioned the foveated rendering thing as a reason why there might be a disconnect between your audience, and what you're saying. To me, that seems like the thing that's causing the disconnect?
The pixellation isn't as pronounced in the capture tho
@@Kireth Right :) Because the screens are so close to your face, they have to be much higher resolution than 4K for both eyes, to avoid that issue. And the monitor feed you're capturing might have some upscaling applied to it (I can't imagine they'd render it completely separately at a higher resolution... that would be an insane workload).
I'm just saying that some people MIGHT be confusing the pixelation we can see in the capture due to foveated rendering, for the blurriness you're trying to illustrate to them. And a bit of what you're seeing as blurriness could be due to the 60hz update instead of 120, where the foveated rendering simply can't keep up with your eyes. It will take a few frames for it to start rendering whatever you're looking at, at full resolution, rather than the lower peripheral resolution. And if your eyes are regularly moving around really quickly, that could cause it to be unable to keep up. Though that's just speculation based on how traditional object culling, screen space/temporal features in games, and things like variable rate shading tend to work. Sometimes you can simply move the camera (or in this case your eyes) faster than these features can keep up at framerates that aren't ultra-high, and foveated rendering should act similarly.
OMG BRO UR THE FIRST PERSON IVE SEEN BE HONEST ABOUT IT. ALL THE OTHER IDIOTS I WATCHED BEFORE RELEASE WERE MAKING OUT THAT ITS LIKE 4K. I WISH I'D SEEN UR VIDEO BEFORE I BOUGHT ONE. I DONT WANNA PLAY IT I GET A HEADACHE AFTER 20 MINUTES AND THE BLURRY HORRIBLE PIXELATED GRAINY JANKY GRAPHICS ARE SUCH A DOWNGRADE FROM MY 28" 4K SCREEN. I HATE PSVR2 I WANT MY MONEY BACK LOL I DOUBT I'LL BUY ANOTHER GAME FOR IT OR EVEN PLAY IT AT ALL ITS REALLY SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT
Thank you for being honest. I haven't tried vr before, but it doesn't sound like it's for me and when the psvr2 comes on Monday or Tuesday I'm going to return it.
I was under the impression that it would look like what I've seen on PlayStation accesses youtube channel, but it sounds worse. I bought the psvr2 from best buy as well, and if I even open the package it's cant be returned. So glade I can get my $900 back! Thanks again Kireth!
Now it's making sense most of us are expecting the same quality as all of these reviews and it's nowhere near as good
Also worth noting, regarding things looking 'blurry' is that the game is running at 60 fps but the headset is 120 fps. (60 fps + reprojection). Anything that is 'moving' relative to you (almost everything) is ghosted. Take a look sideways at any pillars, notice boards, etc. whilst you are driving. There appear to be two of them. The faster you go, the further apart the ghost images are.
This is an overlooked point and likely also the reason why PSVR2 recordings don't translate perfectly to RUclips. The PS5's rendering capability does not match the VR2's native framerate, so it uses interpolation (reprojection) to fill in the missing frames. This makes the result in the headset more smooth in terms of motion but also slightly more blurry. This is similar to the 'sports mode' effect you have on certain televisions. The interpolation is done in the headset alone and not in the native game rendering, so the result on RUclips streams is more jittery than in the headset.
Great points both
Thank you for your honesty.
Some games feel way sharper, like Pavlov. So that's refreshing. I get what I NEED out of GT7 in terms of fidelity. Something interesting though: It's made me feel like I NEED a racing wheel, so that the dexterity and precision of my head movements *matches up with my hands*. Currently, using my dual sense gyro as a steering wheel (which has felt hugely precise up until today) now feels like a bottleneck, because my hands can't deliver what my head is expecting. IE: You look at a corner and go "hell yeah, I can absolutely get my tires right on the edge of that curb" and then you end up like 3ft away from that spot because of the muddyness of the gyro controller. It almost causes a bit of nausea simply because of the disconnect between expectations and reality. In a real car I would have nailed the maneuver. I think this is something that people will start to realize which is pretty hard to communicate if you haven't experienced it.
I got the setup last night my friend. What a difference it makes with the wheel and pedals. The clutch actually works and you can stall it at dead stop start off.
@@PageCrowes Nice, what wheel?
@Kee_Diddy g29 amazon ordered at noon showed up at 5:30 same day. Thank you God. 😊 I'm blessed

Direct drives are to expensive.
Really appreciate your honesty in doing this video. Sony should have done the same. I think your simile to a lint sheet is spot on. I find it's like the unit can't tell whether you're looking near or far and it just had one fixed focal point. Your eyes/brain aren't used to that and for me gives me a bit of eye strain at the mo. But if I can literally look past it then it's ok. Thanks again for your content. Keep up the good work and keep being real.
Well said about the picture quality, it's a pitty they didn't use a different lens from the start making out they would be 4k and look like it did on the TV, €600 is not cheap the picture quality should be better they have the technology these days.
“Just rowed out to the middle of a stormy ocean at night with the lightning and just chilled out there” - LOL that’s relaxing?😂 IRL this would be terrifying!
Look how relaxing it was!! ruclips.net/user/live-XDUbCMlMNY?feature=share&t=5568
That sheet your seeing is the filter they put over the oled. It makes the screen door effect less noticeable but it causes everything to look a bit soft. Samsungs vr headsets had the same thing.
I agree that the visual fidelity is not what you see on the screen. I did not agree when you used the term blurry because that didn’t make me think you had the headset adjusted properly but yes I agree the visuals are not what they are on the flat screen there is no doubt about that. However, I think it important to note for those that are considering purchasing one that it is absolutely amazing to play GT7 in VR and that PS VR 2 visuals are much much better then PSVR 1 visuals when comparing GT sport versus GT 7 on PS VR 2. Also, in my opinion, certain tracks have better visual fidelity than others. I have some thoughts as to why, but I am still observing to make sure I am correct. Have you noticed this as well?
It's amazing, but you are right, it isn't real life sharp. Now the detail is so good, you notice any lack of clarity. PSVR3 has something to aim for, but it's still bloody amazing now.
I agree. You are spot on.
I’m reading some posts online saying visual things are improved if the headset runs alone without a TV hooked up to the PS5. Can anyone confirm?
VR sounds like immersive fun even if it’s not perfect. I’m sure I’m a few years time it will be incredible
When you have HDR on look at the tree’s at trial mountain. Big black fuzzy lines. Tern it off and it’s much better. My thought’s HDR is adding to much where it is not needed. Love to hear your thoughts 👍
Absolutely spot on m8 totally agree GT7 is amazing but has blur but doesn't affect the amazing game play.... and games like Kyak VR are clear as... its like you're there
Kayak feels FRESH!
Thanks for explaining the provided instructions I received with my psvr2
All those big RUclipsrs that were given a free PSVR2 headset should of been more honest!
For me, it´s like a protection film on the lens. You don´t get it as sharp as on a monitor. You still plat a video game and are not in the real world. But once you can see through it, it´s just amazing. For me it´s a different game, don´t compare it with gt7 on the monitor. The speed, the landscape, the lightning, the overtakes,... it´s just 👍
The reason the visual quality is less is because VR is more demanding. Think of it like this, if the game already requires something like a PS5 to render a single image, it needs twice that to render it twice. VR isn't done by simply outputting the same frame to two different screens. It is in fact rendering two seperate frames from two different perspectives creating the depth and 3D.
Yes blurriness is mostly from not being in the sweet spot which is very small. Some can be attributed to the now older generation frenel lenses but if they used the new pancake lenses it would not be as bright and the FOV would be much smaller.
Also the PSVR2 has a diffuser/filter on the displays to reduce the amount of perceived distance between the sub pixels because OLED uses a pentile RGB stripe arrangement which can cause some fuzziness which people perceive as blurry. If they had mini OLED in the PSVR2 instead of OLED that would not be a problem. The Samsung Odyssey + headset for PC had the same issue as it also used OLED.
That’s a bit surprising. I played all the menu books without any assisted settings at all and was actually using the number markers to figure when to slow down and brake.. and I actually have poor eyesight. The visual fidelity is noticeably worse than flat screen but I never had this issue…. An issue I did have though was the road seemingly blending in with itself and practically becoming invisible and hard to tell if there were bumps or where exactly the road started going up or down hill lol
With GT7 specifically, they're clearly rendering details and cars with less fidelity the further they are away from you. For functionality it's okay, but when someone is ahead of you at the end of a straight, they're barely a little blob. Drivers as well, are only populated within 4 cars ahead of you. If you do a custom Go Kart race, you'll see 4 karts with drivers and all the other karts are driverless until they get closer to you. All of these are just simply graphic processing tricks that they used to make the full game work for VR.
Hopefully, they can continue to increase the efficiency of the code and make strides in improving the graphics.
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️Important About Motion sickness!
I started playing abou 30 seconds and i was feeling so bad that i had to remove the headset and go to bed ! Tried for second time after a few hours and same thing happened!
What i did for the 3rd time was a game changer!
Went to the settings and turned off all the driving assistance like yellow line and breaking points ….
Then i jumpt in to a 5 lap race and i finished it 1th without any problem att all !!!
Hopefully its useful for you guys ✌️✌️
Nice!
What bothers me the most is how pixelated the surroundings are, like landscape, officials, birds in the sky and stuff like that. The cars look great.
I thought foveated rendering was supposed to fix the resolution where you look or it just doesn't work in GT7?
@@JJ-iv4ze It might, but I tried looking at an eagle today from my parked z8 with the open roof. It looked like a bird, but a bird from Minecraft.
@@MadsHilde I see :), I guess they oversold this FR too. I was skeptical about it anyway.
@@JJ-iv4ze Driving is still pretty cool though, in a race you don’t notice stuff like that so much.
@@MadsHilde yes, I get it, it's about fun. I have psvr1 and played gt sport with it, so I know what to expect in terms of the immersion. I'm just hoping for a worth upgrade. But still feels like Sony is holding the stuff back. Same I feeling I had with PS5, had it from launch, they promised a lot, 4k/120hz, still it struggles to deliver it 3 years later. I had 4k/60hz on PS4 pro, so was expecting much more from PS5.
Thank you for clarifying a little further this point, no pun intended, I have some questions if you wouldn’t mind answering:
1. Did you purchase your own headset or were you sent one from Sony?
2. Did you adjust and notice the difference when forcing 120Hz in the accessory settings > video output, overriding automatic which has been set by default.
3. I’m reading comments about scaling issues like when you look down at your legs being that of around 70% of what would be actual size.
4. I am an a motor enthusiast and now casual Gran Turismo 7 player. Having been burnt by Day 1 GT Sport and GT7 day 1 purchases I want to try first but where on earth can I do that if nobody has one around me? Look for a show around London?
Thank you Kireth.
No problem!
1. I purchased this with my own money, I wasn't paid by Sony or given a headset in advance for free
2. Not yet as my capture card can't pass through 4K 120hz, I will be doing this today though and passing through 1440p 120hz
3. Depends on the car. Supra was weird, 911 RSR was great
Thanks for the reply Kireth. When all said and done, if you love cars real life and all things gaming, am I going to be disappointed with the experience, with GT7 being my main focus of purchase?
Depends on your price sensitivity, but the VR showroom may be the killer app for you!
I’m not worried about the price, or motion sickness (I’ll train myself if necessary) I just don’t want to throw money away unnecessarily so. So you’re saying go for it for a benchmark or rather ambitious approach but it will be the immersion that supersedes all else?
@@Machine_Brad go get it my friend. Its like I own the cars in gt7 now. Im actually sitting in them and driving them. Its so real to me I reach out to touch the interior buttons. The tracks are all brand new to me now. You cant explain it until you try it my friend.
Very much thanks let know now. I have PSVR2 was strange eye. U show about it and undy now TYYY much ! i'm deaf.
Sony needs to address the poor resolution during races, it's not acceptable with a VR device advertised as 4K
Of course level of detail is decresead while in VR. Also lighting and shadow quality take a hit. Just to improve framerate and frametime. Im not saying it looks bad, it looks good but not as good as flat image.
I'm pretty happy with my PSVR2. Yes there's some trade off but to me is 100% better than my PSVR1.
I need more hours on the PSVR2, to be fair. However, first impression is that it is a step down from the Quest 2 / PC implementation I also drive. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for any device that encourages VR adoption so it's great that more are experiencing the immersion. What I will say about GT7 is that the developers configured it quite well (horizon lock, fps, etc). I haven't felt any motion sickness thusfar. But the visual fidelity and overall experience on a Quest 2 with Assetto Corsa is for now, the benchmark.
Me and the wife had a go last night (Horizon) it's breathtakingly good. Yes it blurred at the edges a few times but that was literally because the fit wasn't perfect.
It stands up against all the pcvr headsets I have used and is better than most. It is very sharp for vr. It is fantastic playing in vr and far better than flat screen which is boring after playing vr
"its not as good as your monitor"
but its better than all other VR headsets, yall need to go see Racing in previous VR's.
I wear glasses and tried playing with contacts. My glasses definitely made it more difficult to get the lenses close enough to reduce the outside chromatic aberration and blur. So with glasses there is a smaller center point of sharpness for me.
I'll tell u whats strange. I have contacts and glasses and it's sharper with my glasses on. The only issue is it takes longer to sort eye tracking so I need to put the glasses closer to my face. So comfortable tho, forget I'm wearing glasses and a headset!
You guys are myopic?
I agrée, the first thing that bothered me is this patterns I see within the lens on the brighter areas, maybe mura effect? The flying helicopter came out and I thought it was some sort of blurry firefly. The changing elevation also messes with my brain, have to prepare for them when it happens, telling myself it’s not real so don’t puke. 😂 but damn game changer for GT7 0:01 . I love looking at the interiors and the realism aspect of it.
Appreciated the transparency on this video attempting to set expectations and as you highlight, the only way to truly know whether it meets your expectations is to try the dam thing on for yourself.
At around 1:30 in your video you discuss the number boards, countdown markers and the fact that you can't read them until it's too late. So here's my question:
Why doesn't Foveated rendering with Eye tracking sort this out? I'm assuming that even with these features to place the processing on the focal point, the actual fidelity is not good enough?
Exactly, was thinking about the same. Why FR doesn't fix the res problem?
Yes a lot of people call that the screen door effect, where it’s very obvious you are looking at the world with a pair of smudgy goggles on - not directly at the world. I would have got the PSVR 2 either way - but I am pi$$ed off at everyone who said it wasn’t / isn’t there
And people got upset when I said I'll wait for Psvr5. Even then it won't be like Ready player one😂
People who think it’s blurry are just focusing too much on it. Just play the game and you’ll stop noticing it
Kireth speaking facts here 👌
the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth
@ I’ve just purchased one and I am very glad I watched your video 👍
Got it today and gt7 is alright I guess. If you are used to something like the valve index it is more blurry. But for console vr it is better than I expected and compared to the psvr1 definitely useable.
So just curious what needs to change to have the TV quality on the actual vr headset? Better vr headset hardware or someone just need to make the gt7 game better ?
The biggest reason I will get PSVR2 (when it officially launches in India in a month), would be for GT7. I will for sure try other VR games and buy them but mainly GT7 for now and hopefully other racing games in the future.. After watching this I'm a little worried though..
IMO. I belive that the blurriness is do to more of the game GT7 rather than the ps2vr. Why, because with my ps2vr game bundled with Horizon call of the mountain. That game is very sharp via ps2vr. What GT7 needs to do, optimize their game better towards VR clarity, video quality, and ultra sharpness; since Sony claims that the ps2vr is 2k per eye.. In its current state with GT7 vr, each eye is at best just under 1k per eye..
:)) PSVR2 Is Blurry and how to fix it! So, how do you fix it?
Wipe your lenses and adjust your headset exactly, as stated in the video!
I agree but I think even if we had 8k screens per eye and the power of 100 PS5 consoles powering the GFX, the limitation would be the lenses. I learned a little bit about that when doing RC FPV year ago, you can't change physics and the way the light moves through the lenses causes distortions.
I think we'll need new technology... maybe very refined lenses. Or maybe (just a thinking out loud here), even lenses on a gimbal used with eye tracking that are able to move around independently of each other so they can automatically adjust to your individual eyeballs in real time. Maybe lenses that change shape depending on your eye position. Maybe they already are working on advanced stuff like that.
But VR will get to a point where the lenses and how you see through them will be the limiting factor in image quality. That's just a theory.
Maybe they'll come up with something completely different that beams the images directly into the rods and cones in your eyes somehow or that interface directly with your optical nerves or something crazy like that. Until then it's the lenses that will hold it back from looking like reality with 180 degrees field of view with no light distortion. It is scientifically impossible right now.
Superb insight here! The lenses definitely act as a barrier from the immersion
How is it compared to an oculus quest 2? I run that currently on my PC rig and it's good enough but this headset seems to have a couple more bells and whistles. The only shortcoming is its Playstation only...
Appreciate the video and honesty. If there were more reviews like this, I think people that are bothered by the issues would be less disappointed. There is really a lot of terms mixed up and thrown around in the vr scene but at the end of the day it’s just as you are describing. It’s important to give some context with analogies like you did with the 1440p and the lint example. I am a firm believer that if you manage expectations it will work out better in the long run.
I think it’s really important that people try it out before they buy it unless they have a lot of experience with vr. Another important thing is people need to figure out whether the game’s available are worth it to them (believe you mentioned something like this in another video).
In my humble opinion, despite these issues it’s not a bad headset for the money. I am saying that honestly as I do fortunately own a high end pc and pcvr. I hope they put demoing units out in the wild for people to try.
I read some like me forgot to activate 120hz mode on the VR2 in ps5 menu . Haven’t try the difference yet but it seems it makes difference on some games.
It’s only for cinema mode bro, it will not affect your normal VR games
Yep Lisak is correct but we will try this out
@@LisakRacing lol hey if it “makes a difference” for him let him enjoy the idea he is playing in 120hz lol
It’s pretty good but oled technology messes with my vision. I always get spotty/blurry vision after using it. Usually goes away after a day from staying away from it. It’s the reason I returned my LG G2 OLED. It looked good but at the same time like it was damaging my eyes in the long term. Went back to ips nano.
Nicely said, Kireth. You explained that so well 👌 I think a lot of people (including myself) were looking at the recorded footage of people playing it and being amazed, but the image you get inside the headset is going to be familiar to anyone who has played the original psvr. I may go and check out Kayak now myself and maybe a bit of Resi Evil. Would you mind if I put a link to this video in my next video?
Go for it man 🙌🙌🙌
Kayake Mirage and Star Wars are the best for me .
If you where glasses normally your supposed to where them in vr that may be the problem it's like driving a car in real life without your glasses
I'm finding that the screen is clear when I look straight ahead, but all the text on the edges is blurry. I end up having to turn my head to see the brake markers and radar, which is really annoying. I wish I could just use my peripherals
That's just lenses 🙌🙌
I don't know about gran turismo because im not try it yet but I try horizon call of the mountain and star wars and they are really sharp and clear. I don't have any problem with that. I don't know if this problem is different in person to person or something else but I don't have this blurriness you said in those two games. yes psvr2 is not sharp as what you see in the tv screen but this is a common thing in all vr headsets even the expensive one🤔
I was very disappointed when I first got this, but I am quite impressed more with the imagine don’t get me wrong. The graphics are flat out bad in most cases there are some moments where I think Jesus this looks good, but the majority of the time you can see the film grain affect. Also, you don’t notice the 110 field of view because all you can see is the outline of the lenses so you’re stuck inside a black circle anyway.
Not sure if you use some sort of audio filter when you're editing, but your voice continuously cuts out at points or significantly softens in case you aren't aware
the term for what you are calling blurry is mura
My problem is loose fit. 🤦 I need to find some foam pads to make it a tighter fit.
I got rid of my Vr headset as I couldn’t stand 110 degree fov or the blurrier visuals compared to my 4k qled screen.Add to that sooo many amazing 2 d games that keep coming out and my Vr headset gathered dust.I used mine for sim racing but you need to stare into the distance a lot of the time and the blurrier distance compared to pin sharp on my 43 inch screen that is only a foot away meant I would use the screen instead.
Does your PSVR 2 Crash? Mine will crash at least twice in a race. I get what I could only call a small loading bar in the headset. Never changes, no pass through just this small loading bar. Only way out is to turn off headset and back on again. The tv shows a message about the headset camera not having enough light in the room. I have track lighting and it is Apple Store bright in their when using the head set.
So where did you say how to fix it
And the sad part of all this is that the psvr2’s life cycle is the same as the ps5 so it will be increasingly outdated as the months and years go by. Sony should have went all in with this headset making it future proof as much as possible taking the initial hit in profit margin but holding the flag as class leader in this area.
Wear contacts that give you 2020 vision nearsighted. It’s not blurry for me.
I've been playing GT7 since release on an ancient Toshiba 32 inch lcd with a PS4. How do you think the visuals on PSVR2 would compare with that ? I'm kind of not expecting a whole lot in terms of visuals but what it lacks there it makes up for with the whole immersion and depth perception experince.
Impossible to tell as no idea what resolution your 32 inch is!
@@Kireth DOH, I need more coffee I think lol, it's a 1080p
It’s a little worse than that but it’s really not a dealbreaker.
