Mike Brady, the architect, should realize those stairs in his house aren't up to current code. They're dangerous the way the railings are so open. People, mainly young kids, could slip through and fall. He needs to fix that.
This was 1969-1970, so things were different back in those days! In the movie "A Very Brady Christmas (1988)," the house was remodeled, with an extra bathroom inside the staircase!
I’ve seen this episode 100 times you’ve got to give the actress Maureen McCormick a lot of credit. She looked at her brothers and then she started crying. I mean that’s great acting for 11-year-old kid great and I’ll tell you when Mike Brady, those kids wow
Look, when it came to discipline, Mike never let the kids get away with anything. If even one committed a no-no(taking away their allowance for two weeks in "Fright Night" is a classic example), he didn't pretend it was ok. He expressed his true feelings about it.
She was crying because she felt that The Boys were being Mean to her. She was only Twelve at the time. I also feel that the Stress of being in a New Home, With A New Father, and Three New Brothers also got to her. She also knew that Greg had more status since he had known these kids since Kindergarten. She probably felt that she had to really prove herself.
You're so right on about that but remember it was 1969 and Girls at that time as far as I know really weren't involved in politics. I'm sure that this was probably the biggest step she took in her extracurricular school life at that time.
+laminage OK I'll give you that and if I'm being totally honest? I can't really give an unbiased opinion cause I could not stand the Brady girls!...but you made a good point there
Yuk! Yuk! Looking back they were quite annoying. Marcia made it all about "Her", Jan was a "Whiner" and Cindy was a Tattletale. Yet it's amazing how things changed in nearly 50 Years.
At 1:12, there was enough blame to go around, as Mike put the girls in their place. Also, at 1:55 "We're gonna be a family for a lot longer than either Marcia or Greg would be in office." That's TELLIN' em!
Mike got right to the point and didn't mince words. Marcia - or anyone for that matter - would need to develop a thicker skin when running for office but then as Carol also said she shouldn't have to expect the kind of rude behavior from the boys in her own home. Mike also confronted the girls about their behavior when Greg was speaking - but I don't recall Greg's speaking or any bad behavior from the girls there of. Typical battle of the sexes episode.
Greg spoke in another RUclips video, and the girls' behavior was as bad as the boys! They were STILL kids, so they didn't yet know that they needed backbones and thick skin to get involved in politics!
@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hc Not only did she get hired over Marcia at the ice cream parlor, she also became a professional woman (an architect) and married a much better guy!
Jan was jealous of Marcia, but Carol and Mike were able to help her overcome it, and it's possible she traded in her glasses for contact lenses! Philip Covington III was a good man, but I also thought he was "too stiff" when it came to life itself! I didn't hate Wally Logan, but I thought he was immature and irresponsible, but he always tried to do his best!
W--a-a-a-y too many American sitcoms have degraded fathers into dull-witted, sloppy, over-ripe adolescent boys that need to be led around by their proverbial ears.
I completely agree. Robert Reed made the show what it was. He made Mike Brady into a believable character. His lectures were the best. They were firm and to the point.
I remember when Marcia cried about not getting the attic for her own room simply because Greg was a year older and Marcia would need to wait a year. I can understand her disappointment, but she acted like a real brat in that episode.
She does come across as of a Brat in the movie too in her character and also when’s she’s getting all the awards things and it does seem like she made such a big deal about it when jan said “Marcia Marcia Marcia.”
But I think that shows what a good actress Maureen McCormick storylines for example with the changing of marcia’s peronsalities or behaviour throughout the programme.
@@benjaminclasper3066 I read somewhere that whenever Maureen needed to cry on camera, she would mentally prepare herself by imagining she had been diagnosed with Syphilis and left at an asylum. It happened to one of her relatives and the thought of it frightened her. The movie is meant to be more of a parody than an homage. But in that context I get why her characters is like that.
It also in many ways hit close to home for Mike. Remember when they had the issue with The Treehouse and Mike reminded His Sons about the conversation about him getting remarried. They forgot that when Mike married Carol, they would get three new sisters. Also for Greg, it was more of an ego than anything else. Unlike Peter he was a Hot Shot at their School and now his "New" Sister was coming along to steal his thunder that couldn't have been easy to deal with. Also keep in mind that Girls almost never showed any interest in Student Council at that time.
I agree with you there. I remember Greg and Marcia getting into a similar argument a few years later because there was an extra room upstairs and they each wanted their own room
Don't forget the "no girls allowed" clubhouse! Mike reminded the boys that when he married Carol, he didn't just promise to love her, but her daughters as well, and Carol made those same promises to him and his sons!
Being a longtime fan of "The Brady Bunch", I've always thought that the first season of "The Brady Bunch" was something special and this classic moment, one of my favorites, is one of the reasons why. Surely, the Brady kids had their share of disagreements, misadventures, and Tiger under the same roof. In the first season, specifically. However, Mike and Carol (and Alice) were always quick to instill in them the values of respect, empathy, and family for each other when it counted.
She was a little too comfortable in her position. They needed to lock her in the attic for a week with no food. Remind her of her place in the pecking order.
@@Thomas-fk3cw Could've been worse. Can you imagine if Florence (The Jeffersons) was their maid? Mr. Brady:"Florence, how about a drink?" Florence: "Good. Make mine a double."
Not to mention the 2016 election has caused friends to stop being friends all because they support different candidates. They don't stop to think that after the term is over, is it still worth not being friends? As Mike would say, "Friendships are supposed to last a lot longer than Hillary or Donald would be in office." Friends aren't supposed to agree on everything, including on who should be president, they're supposed to trust each other.
***** So you're saying that because someone voted for Hillary, that's a perfectly good reason not to be friends, anymore? You know Trump is going to be president for just the next 4 years, when his presidency is over are you seriously going to believe that having someone as president for a measly 4 years was worth breaking up a friendship?
Politicians earning five figures and lawyers earning six figures can handle their opposition civilly, but a baseball player earning seven figures throws a folding chair at hecklers in the stands.
Not ALL politicians are the same! It's true that you need "thick skin" to be a politician, but that doesn't always happen! Trump was always "thin skinned," and a second term in office will only make things worse for him because of that!
@@LisaKoffler In their roles they where rude to each other in fact in real life Maureen and Barry dated a few years later .Susan and Mike admitted to kissing in Tigers dog house if I am right .
It wasn't Marcia's fault that she was sensitive, and this was a brand new experience for her, so she couldn't be expected to know how to act and/or react!
"Girl tears" showed sensitivity, along with the fact that Marcia was STILL a kid, who had a lot to learn about rudeness in the area of politics! Carol and Mike were the perfect example of how parents are supposed to act!
REALLY? Marcia cried because of how badly the boys treated her, and she and her sisters were equally rude to Greg! Carol was right about them making it a contest between boys and girls, and that's NEVER right!
The boys just sitting there and not applauding was hardly "rudeness" considering what that is today. They didn't shout "Go to hell, bitch" or such things.
Goes to show you it’s different when girls cry, then the whole world stops and everyone drops what they’re doing to help them. When a man does it nobody cares
Back in the old days, kids got spanked for EVERYTHING! Today, it's like parents have walked out on their responsibilities, and they wonder why their kids get into so much trouble!
I was slapped across the face more often than spanked, and I received more time-outs than I can remember, but BOTH experiences forced me to think about my behavior, and I tried to be more careful after that!
You will hear Greg's speech later in the school auditorium. This is the only time we get to hear Marcia's speech before she concedes. Hearing Greg's speech twice would be boring. That's why in later seasons every time the kids did a singing performance, they auditioned one song and then performed a different one.
You know, CBS, I don't quite recall Marcia sounding younger in this episode. That's why she sounded older. After all, Marcia in the Brady Bunch family is the ELDEST GIRL. In other episodes, she sounded a lot more like a teenager girl. I mean: "I know that because I WATCHED THEIR EXCERPTS/VIDEO CLIPS". It could've been her voice actress changing age voices when she was older.
You noticed subtle changes too..For me, not just the Brady Bunch but other shows - audio, video, and even some scenes were no the same. I can do a whole theory and thesis on this idea alone!
I think it’s really rotten the way the boys were treating Marcia Brady when she’s was doing her campaign speech she’s was crying in tears* It’s really great that Greg Brady stuck up for his sister’ Marcia Brady* It’s really great that Alice’ Jan and Cindy were helping Marcia make posters for her campaign* It’s really great that Bobby’ Peter and Alice helped do make campaign speeches for Greg* Family always sticks together no matter what*
ALL 6 kids "hated" each other during the First Season, and the first year is always the hardest, because it's a major adjustment, but they eventually came together before the Second Season!
In real life, Maureen McCormick was really letting out some deep emotional feelings and fears she had here. Many of them were about her family members who had health problems, she feared she was gonna turn out like them. Many of the emotional Marcia scenes she would do on The Brady Bunch were very real and induced by real-life emotions she had.
I was once told that "fake tears" can be used, but I'm glad that some actors don't need them, when they can think about terrible things, and their own tears start flowing!
He made up for it later, though. He fired his campaign manager when he wanted to start a nasty rumor about her. Marcia witnessed this which leads her to do what she does next. The important thing was that they both learned that Mike was right-their new family was more important than a school election.
To be fair they never actually got punished harshly, mike Brady would just lay it all out to them and then send them to their rooms. Most kids back then had to deal with the wooden spoon when they were naughty, Brady’s way was much nicer (probably more effective too).
Sometimes, Mike and Carol needed to be harsh! In the episode "Fright Night," they took away ALL 6 of their kids' allowances for 2 weeks! They said: "If you carry a joke too far, somebody could get hurt!"
This song is extremely sad especially if you lose your morning drivers in the late morning if you go back to full-time you’ll be even more sadder so maybe just keep it the way it is so I can sing you to see my morning drivers because I want them

ANYONE can be sensitive, and it's NOT just females!
Look, when it came to discipline, Mike never let the kids get away with anything. If even one committed a no-no(taking away their allowance for two weeks in "Fright Night" is a classic example), he didn't pretend it was ok. He expressed his true feelings about it.
Absolutely! In another episode, he punished Greg for trying to cover up a car accident for a whole week!
Carol gives the boys such a cold, dead stare.
Mike looked like he did the same thing to the girls!
I LOVE BRADY BUNCH 💜
Me, too!
You could put 3 tournament size pool tables in that living room without moving a single piece of furniture.
That house was bigger on the inside than it was on the outside.
Man, that Mike Brady was one heck of an architect.
I remember back in 1981, when Marcia and Jan had a double wedding! They were supposed to have it outdoors before a thunderstorm broke out!
Yet the boys had that closet size bedroom. And, of course, do not forget the one bathroom with no toilet.
I couldn't forget the one bathroom without a toilet, and an additional bathroom was put in around the staircase in the movie "A Very Brady Christmas!"
She was crying because she felt that The Boys were being Mean to her. She was only Twelve at the time. I also feel that the Stress of being in a New Home, With A New Father, and Three New Brothers also got to her. She also knew that Greg had more status since he had known these kids since Kindergarten. She probably felt that she had to really prove herself.
ummm OK but if she can't handle be from her brothers how is she gonna handle a whole school?
I know the feeling. Not 3 new siblings, but, to want to prove yourself and people always beat you down. But I made them eat their words.
@@alexisdiva9 I don't recall it, either. Guess the viewer had to use his/her imagination.
@@alexisdiva9the girls sat there with sour looks on their faces, uninterested in Greg’s speech.
Greg spoke in another RUclips video, and the girls' behavior was as bad as the boys! They were STILL kids, so they didn't yet know that they needed backbones and thick skin to get involved in politics!
Reminds me of light-hearted summers when I was growing up and my mother was alive. 😔😔
Jackson Five Forever ❤❤❤
That was a Saturday morning cartoon, and I enjoyed that, too!
Jan is secretly thinking “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia…Now you got your just desserts!”
Jan surpassed Marcia in the last season of The Brady Bunch when she ditched her glasses and blossomed into a young beauty.
@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hc Not only did she get hired over Marcia at the ice cream parlor, she also became a professional woman (an architect) and married a much better guy!
@@nassauguy48 Jan was much nicer than Marcia. Marcia always seemed to be stuck up.
Robert Reed is incredible
W--a-a-a-y too many American sitcoms have degraded fathers into dull-witted, sloppy, over-ripe adolescent boys that need to be led around by their proverbial ears.
I completely agree. Robert Reed made the show what it was. He made Mike Brady into a believable character. His lectures were the best. They were firm and to the point.
He played Mike Brady exceptionally well!
Mike was always the way his father and you always get a very good lectures I always love the show it was so good I love watching it on RUclips
Mike Brady knew HOW to be a father, and my late father should have taken some lessons from him!
1:00 😂😂😂😂😂
Sometimes,,, this show really hits the spot in a real family. That's what Robert Reed wanted in the Brady bunch in the writing .
Absolutely! He believed in authenticity, and that's the best way to go!
The Brady boys trolled Marcia lmaooo
Yeah but the girls' behavior during Greg's speech was just as bad!
The girls trolled Greg, too!
Seeing Maureen cry on screen always gets me.
And that she showed Marcia was maybe sensitive or quite an emotional person sometimes too but she could be loving too.
I hated when Marcia is Crying it's breaks my heart

She liked Marcia's speech!
1:55 that's a very profound statement
You said it!
0:54 Me when my Asian parents find out my grade is a B+
There's NO such thing as perfect, and I've heard of parents - regardless of their background - yell at their kids for NOT getting an A!
Marcia was such a crybaby in the first season!
She was adorable though.
@@coolstuff3066
She was adorable.
I like hearing her speak because I like the way her voice sounded.
Marcia WASN'T a crybaby, she was just sensitive!
The Bunch was always prepared for everything!
Not always! Sometimes, the unexpected would happen, and they would have to figure out what to do next!
Love the love for Marcia.
The boys weren’t wrong. Awesome tactic. It broke the competition down.
REALLY? They were mean to Marcia, and THAT'S wrong! She and her sisters were equally wrong being mean to Greg!
“I’m going to stand at this podium and say a bunch of stuff I don’t believe myself nor will follow thru on”.
REALLY? That's crazy!
Alice just walked out of the room and left all those chairs there. Nice housekeeping
She was a little too comfortable in her position. They needed to lock her in the attic for a week with no food. Remind her of her place in the pecking order.
I always said, "This show could use more domestic violence."
@@Thomas-fk3cw Could've been worse. Can you imagine if Florence (The Jeffersons) was their maid?
Mr. Brady:"Florence, how about a drink?"
Florence: "Good. Make mine a double."
It's obvious that Alice was giving the parents some privacy to discuss what had just happened.
Alice put all the chairs away after Carol and Mike were finished talking!
1:55. Mike hit the nail on the head. 👍
So did Carol!
This song is even sadder for this episode
The way she cried and said thank you got me like 😂
Marcia knew she shouldn't let the boys upset her, but she couldn't help it!
cindy the troll lmao.
She was a tattletale in another episode in the second season!
***** You must not have many friends since you seem so picky.
Alexander Edward Pytko agreed a lot of people got mad at me for supporting trump
Alexander Edward Pytko forever they should last I have a friend that support clinton and i support trump and we respect our opinions
That's all well and good for Mike Brady. He's a fictional character who doesn't have to deal with the real world actions of corrupt politicians.
Carol was right about expecting the opposition to be rude, but rudeness shouldn't be tolerated from your own family!
I think Marcia was a big baby in this episode all the boys did was just sit there it’s not like they were heckling her and making fun
I was thinking the same thing.
Marcia WASN"T a big baby, she was upset, because the boys sat there giving her dirty looks! The girls did the same thing to Greg!
I agree, not to mention she and her sisters acted the same way toward Greg. If you're to dish it out, you need to be able to take it.
It's more difficult in the case of kids, and Marcia WASN'T "a big baby" for crying, because she had NO idea what to expect!
Mike Brady is a great Dad
I agree. Robert Reed made Mike Brady into a believable character. He was a true father.
Mike Brady is the kind of father I wished my late father was like!
Maureen did a great job .Did you all notice Eve and Susan her when they went the stairs they supported her .I know they where playing roles thu.
That's true, but ALL 6 kids were equally rude to each other!
@@LisaKoffler In their roles they where rude to each other in fact in real life Maureen and Barry dated a few years later .Susan and Mike admitted to kissing in Tigers dog house if I am right .
I also read something about the 6 kids making out with each other!
:0:58-Jan looks like she’s ready to cry too.
Can you blame her? I certainly don't!
@@LisaKofflerwell, she had just acted the very same way toward Greg so if she's going to dish it out, she should take it in return.
It wasn't Marcia's fault that she was sensitive, and this was a brand new experience for her, so she couldn't be expected to know how to act and/or react!
The most powerful weapon know to mankind... girl tears. Mr and Mrs Brady were great parents.
"Girl tears" showed sensitivity, along with the fact that Marcia was STILL a kid, who had a lot to learn about rudeness in the area of politics! Carol and Mike were the perfect example of how parents are supposed to act!
@@LisaKoffler She had me crying when i was a kid when i saw the first airing… and again when i saw it on YT.

@@LisaKoffler see 2024 election. We all need to listen to Mr and Mrs Brady!
@@LisaKoffler Marcia wasn’t crying because the boys were rude… she was crying about the terrible situation harming her family!
The boys just sitting there and not applauding was hardly "rudeness" considering what that is today. They didn't shout "Go to hell, bitch" or such things.
Just shows how low the bar has dropped since then.
troll...
The boys gave Marcia dirty looks, and the girls did the same thing to Greg!
Goes to show you it’s different when girls cry, then the whole world stops and everyone drops what they’re doing to help them. When a man does it nobody cares
Kids today get away with everything but in those days it was different than today.
Back in the old days, kids got spanked for EVERYTHING! Today, it's like parents have walked out on their responsibilities, and they wonder why their kids get into so much trouble!
@@LisaKofflerI agree. Although most of us didn't get spanked for everything, we did get spanked much more often than kids these days.
I was slapped across the face more often than spanked, and I received more time-outs than I can remember, but BOTH experiences forced me to think about my behavior, and I tried to be more careful after that!
They didn’t show Greg’s practice speech. I want to see how the girls behave during that.
According to Mike the girls behavior was just as bad during Greg's speech.
You will hear Greg's speech later in the school auditorium. This is the only time we get to hear Marcia's speech before she concedes. Hearing Greg's speech twice would be boring. That's why in later seasons every time the kids did a singing performance, they auditioned one song and then performed a different one.
ALL 6 kids were equally rude to each other!
We're going to be a family for a lot longer than either Marsha or Greg would be in office 💓😭😌
littleangel4780 I’ve always LOVED that line!
It's the perfect line for situations like this!
At that moment...
The Brady kids realized...
That they really screwed up.
They were forced to realize that when Carol and Mike got upset with them being rude to each other!
Puberty can play all kinds of tricks!
I think it’s really rotten the way the boys were treating Marcia Brady when she’s was doing her campaign speech she’s was crying in tears* It’s really great that Greg Brady stuck up for his sister’ Marcia Brady* It’s really great that Alice’ Jan and Cindy were helping Marcia make posters for her campaign* It’s really great that Bobby’ Peter and Alice helped do make campaign speeches for Greg* Family always sticks together no matter what*
The first year is always the hardest, and combining families was a big adjustment for everyone!
My sister would've handled that totally different, with a direct glare and then saying "You clowns got a problem?" 🤨😄
I suppose she might be the elder one..
ALL 6 kids had a problem with each other during Season 1 of the show, but they eventually worked everything out!
Those meany pants boys. Making Marcia 😢
Marcia and her sisters were equally mean to Greg!
Marcia was always crying 😢
It's NOT her fault that she has a sensitive personality!

It's sad!
Poor Marcia she tried so hard
She cried because she was humiliated!
This song is even more sadder when you move Cindy B or scat Bus 20010
In real life, Maureen McCormick was really letting out some deep emotional feelings and fears she had here. Many of them were about her family members who had health problems, she feared she was gonna turn out like them. Many of the emotional Marcia scenes she would do on The Brady Bunch were very real and induced by real-life emotions she had.
I was once told that "fake tears" can be used, but I'm glad that some actors don't need them, when they can think about terrible things, and their own tears start flowing!
Those boys made Marcia felt like dirt when she spoke and Greg's the oldest he know better 😡1:10
Greg and his brothers had NO business treating Marcia like dirt! She and her sisters also treated Greg like dirt!
He made up for it later, though. He fired his campaign manager when he wanted to start a nasty rumor about her. Marcia witnessed this which leads her to do what she does next. The important thing was that they both learned that Mike was right-their new family was more important than a school election.
Bobby looks as though he wants to tear Marcia's head off.
Don't forget that Peter and Greg were the same way! Marcia and her sisters were equally mean to Greg!
"It's time we had a little talk." I would have run away from home with all these effen talks.
To be fair they never actually got punished harshly, mike Brady would just lay it all out to them and then send them to their rooms. Most kids back then had to deal with the wooden spoon when they were naughty, Brady’s way was much nicer (probably more effective too).
Talk talk talk......whatevs Mr Brady. Lol
This was the 60's all our households were like that my dad. Was just like that. You respected him and my mom. Thats what's wrong with kids today..
Eh, they got off easy. My parents raised me on the saying, "A spanking is worth a thousand words."
Sometimes, Mike and Carol needed to be harsh! In the episode "Fright Night," they took away ALL 6 of their kids' allowances for 2 weeks! They said: "If you carry a joke too far, somebody could get hurt!"
