I couldn't stand Judy Gellar. She was awful to Monica whereas Ross could do no wrong even with his multiple divorces. I'm glad Chandler and their friends could give Monica the support she needed.
Monica was probably the more dramatic character of the 6 (she struggled in the past and her present) she is like the "mum" of everyone who keeps everyone grounded. Otherwise, and without her character it would be a complete chaos.
Love how you totally ignored all the times he was very sweet and caring. It's almost as though he's a well written character with both strengths and flaws.
I was appalled at Monica and Ross's mother's treatment of Monica. Based on the stories that my mother tells me about her own mother when she was growing up the treatment sounds very similar.
I wish Judy's character would've died. What an awful "Mother." There should've been an episode where Monica confronted her. She's so mean to Monica. Hated her character.
She did confront her more than once. Episode where Nana dies, the episode where she catered for her mom, when it was Jack's birthday and Monica was going out with Richard.
i love my mom but sometimes she insults my interests, sometimes she gives me mental burden but i love her so i can't say anything harsh, i can only call her out. she then gets even more defensive and it makes me hate myself, but i forgive her, knowing her behaviour is from the things she had to suffer when nonna passed away when she was 8. yk i feel her sadness and i know it's her first time being a mom and living life but she has lived her 36 years alrdy but this is me living life aswell idk anything and if she tells me im bad before i get to be anything or to try anything, it is only making me feel suicidal, but i love her.

Question: wasn’t Monica’s apartment left from her grandmother? Why is she stressed about the rent. In the episode where she meets Joey and he comes over for “lemonade “ she yells him “ I have this apartment from my grandmother, otherwise O could never afford such a place” and now she tells Ross she is stressed about making rent. What did I miss?
So New York City had a concept called rent control where they couldn't raise the rent much on long term residents. Officially her grandmother is living in the apartment and paying a reduced rate for being a long time resident. Unofficially Monica is illegally subletting the apartment from her grandmother and resutingly benefiting from a reduced rate she wouldn't otherwise be afforded for such an apartment. If the landlord ever found out Monica was doing this she would be in real trouble. Which is why they have that plot with the Superintendent at one point (who knows Monica is doing this) where Joey has to be his dance partner to stop him ratting.
In real life a mother is supposed to be 'a mother', so kind, loving, supporting etc The fact Judy isn't (most of the time) produces painful (we can relate to Monica's pain and frustration), but also funny scenes, her behaviour doesn't bother me because of that. If every character had behaved as he/she 'should' have, we wouldn't have FRIENDS as it is, it would have been boring.
It always bothered me that Monica felt entitled to wedding money from her parents. She was independent and had been living and working on her own for years
Judy is the boy mom of Friends she always praised Ross while she treated Monica like crap for no reason I truly have so much dislike for the Judy character. But the actress that plays her is so talented and sweet.
