- As the Heatwave hits parts of England we find ourselves thinking of ways to keep Alice and Munchkin cool on the narrowboat. They, however, are thinking of ways to get some sleep.

Hi Annemarie and Kath, hope you and cats are all well. I have put out two bowls of water in the coolest part of house for our cat ,Pebbles. She comes in, looks at them, will have a little sip then goes to the pond and has a drink..!!!! Her favourite spot out of the sun to sleep is the shade of the summerhouse under the sun lounger..😃 We have also got one of those cool mats from Pets At Home that she can also lay on and they do feel quite cool to the touch..😊. An ice cube in the water bowl sometimes works, but cats, being cats, will also ignore it all. Cat greetings from Bella, Charlie, Gus and Tommy in Canada.
Cats were originally from desert areas like Egypt. As long as they have water, they manage extreme heat better than we do. I love seeing your two, such great temperament.

Love them! I would recommend, as I grew up in a continually very hot & sunny place, you may want to find a solid colored, navy blue umbrella to give you deep shade & drop the ambient temperature down more. The yellow stripe is beautiful, but for the hottest days, darker would shade you deeper. 😁
Loved this. We had a wonderful cat named Mindy for 13 years. Boy did she have us trained.😺

My cat Missy just hides in the tangle of plants in the garden - then complains when the food dish is empty!
My cats would get under the covers when it was cold in winter. When we moved to Borneo, they would go into the attic or wherever was the hottest, where they would happily toast. If we have the A/C on they go into one of the other rooms.
Cat's are a always fussy. You can not help to love them. Have 3 boy's that will mug you and another 4 that's iffy. It's what my lady does. Love them all. The 3 are because their parents went into a pet not allowed place. The boy's are so sweet, you get mugged every time you go in. Precious.I give them my heart because I love my wife. But my feeling for my children hasn't changed. Love all my friends and family. Thank you for sharing.
What goes on in the furry little brains of our cats, I'll never know. One of them sat on my lap and watched 20 minutes of narrowboat cruising in real time.
Now if you want this to go truly viral, you and Kath should act out the parts of the two cats, recreating the scenes, and posting it in a side by side video :) Stay safe and have fun, even that just means enjoying some shade for a bit!

Alice is the star this show!!! I am bias though as I have a black kitty myself. Funny that you refer to Alice as "boss cat" because my kitty def runs the show in my home.

My cat will never drink water so I now trick her by mixing a small amount in with her food, it makes her meaty chunks a bit sloppy but it does the trick. Got to keep our fur babies hydrated during this heatwave. 🐈🐱😺😻

Don't take it personally, I've just bought my two dogs a paddling pool to help them cool down when they are in the garden. Yes, I have been in it more than they have "to show them it is safe, not deep and definitely not a dog eating whirlpool" whilst dogs won't even look at me splashing about as they walk past me to go back into the house. Still, on the bright side - I have a paddling pool woop woop !
Domestic cats are descended from desert cat ancestors. They love the heat and are very self regulating when it’s warm.
Oh bless them! Out cats don’t know what to do with themselves today in the heat. They are house cats with a rare condition so can’t go out. We keep them hydrated with tuna water, which we keep in the fridge and keep adding water to.

I haven't seen Nya since this morning... She's obviously found a cool spot outside somewhere. Always worred when she doesn't come back for dinner bang on 9pm mind. An hour and twenty minutes late so far. Obviously more comfortable than me right now!

Hilarious 🤣 To keep my cats hydrated, I add a half a cup of water and mix it with their wet food. Which is 1/2 a can of tuna or other wet cat food in a tuna sized can.
As always, we love the cats. We had 3 over the years and they all had a mind of their own.

We’ve had a “cool mat” on the floor, Smith gets in warm snuggly bed instead! Water out....drinks from normal water instead 😀

Don't worry about the heat. The reality is that cats evolved in the Middle East and actually evolved to be in much hotter climate than the one we keep them in. Anything under 80 deg F and they are actually cold.

LOL. My four are flat out anywhere they can keep cool. Three of them (Mario, Luigo and Daisy) have just had their flee and worm treatments, still waiting to catch the last one, Peach.
My cat always keeps me busy, she will only do something when it suits her and not when I want her to, but she's so good at giving the, 'look how cute I am look' I can't be annoyed with her. Wondered if you had any further news on Jono? One of his old vlogs came up on youtube and when I looked I noticed the comments were turned off on all his vlogs. Has he finished with vlogging I wonder?

Hi Ladies, I have been watching for a while, binge watching all your amazing trips on your narrowboat/s, thank you both for helping to make my iso time entertaining, luv your vlogs.... I am in Melbourne, Australia it's our winter starting here and not too cold (your winters are colder than ours brrrr) average is 13oc during day and 5oc during night so ok with sun out most days with rain at night but I know it will mix up with wind etc sooner than later....I hope your heat wave goes quickly soon, what's your temps ???!!!! Question: Ladies, how do you deal during summer with flies & mosquitoes..... we have them bad here in Australia, Annamarie you'll know what I mean.....we have to have fly screens on windows etc.... do you need them on the Narrowboat??!!!! Anyway thanks heaps for your vlogs..... cheers Debz

My dog , sure she thinks she's a cat! Sits wherever she likes, ignores all foods put down for her until she's really hungry and has exhausted all attempts to steal her slaves food. Has her own fan and multiple water bowls. Will stand in front of the fan for about a minute and then buggers off outside to lie on the patio. It's 40+ Celsius on the flagstones but she doesn't care.
Are you sure that cats and dogs can't crossbreed ? :D
And as my son the veterinarian would say, "They're cats." We've got two of them and two 50 pound dogs. What to guess who rules the house?

terry boyer Hi, Terry! It’s not so much of any fighting here. The older cat is the queen, never so much as a growl or swat as a glare which commands the others respect. The young cat learned it quickly which also keeps the dogs in line. Dogs, for their part, would rather romp and stomp with each other and give the cats a wide berth.

Today is around 30°C and no
cloud cover (maybe 50% humidity?). Mostly though, we don't have any aircon in houses / boats, and last week it was around 15°C. Oh for a Queensland style thunderstorm, though maybe not for the kitties!
