    Great and clean way to speak about very crucial elements of portait photography Pete. Well done! In case of focal lenght its also important to check how backdrop or second and/or third plane react at changing focal lenght. Sometimes compression of long lens is more important that distortion given by lens itself, distortion could be adjusted in post in some cases but background is harder to change even in AI era.

      Thanks dude! This is a great point as well. And the subject distance from the background too.

    Hi Pete, Thank you. Concise, clear and helpful. My only suggestion is to add Full Frame when mentioning focal length as i think you mean 33 apsc / 50 ffe?

      Noted! Yes, I am speaking in FF terms for focal length.

    Hey Pete, firstly it was cool seeing you on with Pal2tech Friday afternoon! Secondly, thanks for the tips. Question: What do you do when the model/subject doesn't like tight shot portraits? Every time I shoot my daughter she complains when I want to shoot tight(headshot) portraits. She also doesn't like when I shoot from a low angle for some reason. Kids!! LOL! Love your portraits btw, your lighting plays a big role in the emotion of the image. It's really nice. Have a great week!

      Thanks Charlie! Well, shooting your own kids is always going to add an extra layer of difficulty LOL. But when I'm working with a client, I make sure to get a big variety of options. Some will like a very close crop, some do not, but usually they do, esp if I'm using the 50mm (or in my case 35mm Fuji) since as I mentioned it compresses just a touch and slims the face. Shooting from a low angle is tough because it can accentuate the chin and nostrils. If I shoot from below, I usually have the subject jam their head forward and tilt it down just a bit to give a sharper jaw line.
      Thanks for watching as always my friend, and I'm glad you caught me with Chris. That was so much fun! Have a great day!

    Hey Pete. Do you shoot in HSS or do you use an ND filter when using such a low aperture

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  5 месяцев назад

      Hey Gary, most of the time if I'm shooting wide open it's with continuous light so I don't need an ND filter. I just crank up the shutter speed. I do use HSS on occasion as well.
