- Having issues with my GSG Firefly .22 LR gun it will only run hot ammo. Viewer suggested: clean and oil to see if it will help the situation. This is the results of doing that. Also shooting thru the Chronograph while checking to see what would run.
Great Gun. I polished the feed ramp and install a Taylor tactical Guide rod spring. Runs anything I put through it now, good shooter.
SavedbyGrace. Same Here! Thanks. My Firefly came with two springs, changed to the softer one, but it still like the bit hotter ammo. Fun gun to shoot. I will have to check out Taylor Tactical. Thanks for viewing and commenting. Take care.
I ordered a spring from Taylor Tactical so we will see how that works out. Thanks.
Can I ask how you did polish the ramp please?
I used Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish and a dremel with a felt wheel. You can also do it by hand, just takes a little longer. There are a lot of good videos on RUclips that show you how to do it.
@@savedbygrace5943 Thanks. Good reply. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Thank you sir for the testing. Just picked up a Firefly last week.
Patrick. Thanks for taking a look. Hope the Firefly dose well for you. Polishing the feed ramp is not all that easy. It is just hard to get at. What I did was cut a piece of 600 to 800 grit sandpaper about 1" by 5" long and rolled it up like a sucker stick. Now you have this little rolled up sandpaper about 1" long and a little smaller than a pencil eraser. Slide it up and down on the feed ramp kind of in a twisting action from top to bottom. Good luck. Thanks again and take care.
I have the GSG Firefly which is notorious for not liking standard, bulk ammo with ususl velocities. Like all semi autos, one must evaluate what a particular fire arms processes best which is a must with 22lr. After considerable trial and error, I settled on Bass Pro’s store brand “Herters” which is 40gr, 1300 fps, plated Round Nose (rumor has it that Winchester may make this for Bass Pro….comparable to the Winchester Super X with the same specs). I am also now using this in my Walther P22Q which can also be finicky. Of course may favorie 22lr semis TX22Compact, TX22, S&W M&P 22 Compact, Ruger SR22 Compact are all better guns…frankly outstanding and these semis “eat” about anything.
Thanks for covering these ammos on your channel which you tested from a handgun. i wish more gun owners would share their ammo experiences with their various handguns-pistols and revolvers.
Tulsavol6653. Thanks. I appreciate your viewing and commenting. I like your comment and all that you shared. I agree that it is important to find that ammos that a gun really like and that shoot well and consistent. I have noticed in the past with some of the hotter ammos that run really well but may not yield the best groups if a person in shooting for groups. But you can't shoot groups if the ammo doesn't run. Sad to say we don't have a Bass Pro close by here or I would love to spend some time there. Thanks again very much for viewing and taking the time to comment. Take care.
You keep saying they didn't cycle but yet you're not using the right ammo to make it cycle.
Thanks for viewing and commenting. You're correct if I want it to cycle all the time, I would shoot only CCI Velocitors but Velocitors cost about 3X or 4X that of cheap plinking ammo but they work. Thanks again and take care.
Runs great with the right ammo , nice shooting ! 👍
Jerry. Thanks for taking a look. Not exactly an exciting video. Thanks again and take care.
What ammo do
You suggest?
Mine is ready for pick up today when I get off work, I'm stoked! Been wanting a cheap 22 for fun at the range and plinking! I also like how you use old toothbrushes, that's what I do too. They work surprisingly well!
Thank you for the video! I hope you have a great weekend 😎
Chris. Thanks. I appreciate you viewing and commenting. Firefly is a fun gun to shoot. Mine like a little hotter ammo. It will be interesting to see what ammo your new gun likes, should be fun. Thanks again, take care and hope you have great weekend also.
Our old toothbrushes are the handgun cleanders friend. Have one suggestion on their use that I saw on another video: use a dry toothbrush right away after the teaardown on the basic visible area inside the the gun facing the parts toward a paper towel while brushing so gravity spills the loose power out of the parts. THEN dip another, differenttooth brush which you dip in the hoppes loosening things up and repeat over the teardown. Then separately using a wetted long stem Q-tip equivalent on the barrell as well as hard to get to places; dry it all off, lightly oil, and wipe a little, including inside the barrel. Put back together, testing the action.
@@tulsavol6653 thank! 😎
@@tulsavol6653 I'm going to try this next time I clean any of mine! The dry toothbrush and then the toothbrush with Hoppes
nice cleaning and great sending Bobcat!!! i like the tea shirt too lucky duck ;-). hopefully down the road she will send a bit better with all types of loads vs only a few types . enjoy the rest of the weekend .
Mrsmel269. Thanks Again. Right now, the old Firefly is a bit picky. I think it needs a bit lighter recoil spring to run the more average ammos. Thanks, hope you and your family are all doing well.
you get here dialed in and be running brick in no time Bobcat and i cant wait to be watching ;-)
@@mrsmel269 Thanks! Hope you are having a great evening.
Already order it looking forward to it💯
C.S.F. Thanks for taking a look and commenting. Sounds good, hope it turns out to be just what you wanted. Thanks again and take care.
Nice video, great info. i had to work out the step on the feed ramp. also removed the area on the hammer that the slide rubs on. much smoother now. haven't had it to the range yet. mine wouldn't run federal at all. mini mags were ok. golden bullet were better than feds but still had issues most of the time. thanks again.
Patrick. Thanks. I appreciate your viewing and commenting. Thanks for the info on all that you did to get your Firefly running smoother. I will have to check mine again to see if I can apply the things you have done to make mine run better. Thanks again. Have a Merry Christmas and take care.
I pick up mine today after work, just for safe measure, I'm going to hit the feed ramp with a dremel (cotton head) and some Mother's polish. A quick job that is worth doing to help feed more ammo choices
Any high velocity ammo 1230 fps or higher usually works best
@kenb4314. Thanks. I appreciate your viewing and input on the ammo that works best. Take care.
I had issue with it jamming and wouldn’t feed correctly I polished the feed ramp and grinded and polished a notch in the hammer been running any ammo I could find had no issues
Kwanzy26. Thanks for taking a look. Also, thanks for your comments and your experience with the Firefly. Good to hear that yours is running great. I shot mine recently but just a few rounds for a chronograph comparison with other .22's and it ran fine, but still with a bit hotter ammo (CCI MIni Mags). I like the gun, but it likes the hotter ammos. Thanks again and take care.
Everything will run if your using the right spring. The factory spring is for 40 grain, the one in the box is for match rounds.
Vaporjoes. Thanks. I appreciate your viewing and commenting. When I bought the Firefly, the sales lady told me to replace the OE spring with the one in the box which I did, but still had some issues with the less powerful ammos. But the gun loves the hotter stuff. Thanks again and take care.
Interesting that the mini mag and the Federal were close in velocity but the Fed ran fine and the CCI didn't.
Thanks for viewing and commenting. I believe I gave the velocity numbers that were listed on the ammo boxes and not actual chronograph data that I had checked myself. It depends a little bit on how honest the ammo manufactures are with their numbers. Thanks again and take care.
Unfortunately, mine only seems to run with stingers. They're more costly than most ammo and defeats the purpose of using a .22 in the first place.
Great video, thanks.
Spursfan4ever1. Thanks. I appreciate your viewing and commenting. You may already know this, but when I bought my Firefly the lady at the gun store told me to change out the recoil spring to the softer spring that came in the gun case if I planned on shoot regular ammo. So, I did that, even with that the gun still likes hotter ammo, like 1200+ fps ammo. It really loves CCI Velocitors (I think 1435 fps), another expensive ammo. Thanks again and best of luck with the Firefly. Take care.
I have always been a revolver guy. I purchased the firefly about a year ago. I have never taken it apart. while shooting it for the first time I noticed that the mag would come loose. I rarely shoot this gun, however now I have the mag falling out after I fire it. I have also noticed that I can pull on the mag and it will come out without hit hitting the release button. Any suggestions on how to fit this ? ( and yes, I have tried other mags. )
Bosdad7. I'm sorry, I wish I could help with some good wisdom. I have never had that happen with my Firefly. Again, sorry that I'm no help. If you have not done so already, might put that up on youtube and if someone else may have an answer.
I thought they came with second spring that if you installed, it would run ( lighter ) subsonic ammo??
Jammer1mo. Thanks for viewing and commenting. That's correct. When I bought the gun, the salesperson told me to change the spring in order to shoot lighter ammo, which I did even before I ever shooting it. It still does not like lower power ammo, I think now it will run anything from about 1150 fps and up and maybe some of the bit hotter subsonic ammos. I have a fair number of different .22's, I should chronograph a bunch and then see what will run. Thanks again and take care.
Damn it sounds like you got the same spring as the one came with the gun LOL wonderful person could cut a couple of coils off the small end that would help I've had to do that with a Smith & Wesson 22A to help cycle subsonics
@@jammer1mo Thanks! I will have check out doing that. If I did not misplace then, I should have two spares. Thanks again.
Thanks for sharing these look a lot like a Sig.Sounds like Needs a Polishing of the feed ramp if possible?
No Pro. Thanks. I agree, I think the Firefly was either made by Sig or based on their gun. I will have to see if I can do anything with the feed ramp, fixed barrel make it a bit more difficult. Thanks again and have a great weekend. Take care.
@@bobcatforever3485 I was wondering if it was accessible . I usually keep on New fire arms racked and mags loaded to stretch springs.Or just shoot the heck out of it and break her in.👍👍
This gun used to be the SigSauer Mosquito, now under GSG branding
The hammer on mine isn’t going all the way down like it should be for me to put the slide on
Frank. Thanks for taking a look. I don't remember if I had to manually hold and the push the hammer down as I was putting the slide back on. I re-looked at the video and it appears I was having a bit of an issue putting the slide back on it may have been due to the hammer being up too high. I expect there are better videos out there than mine that might spell things out better and make it clearer. Thanks again. Take care.
Bobcat w/a boonie, thought that was a 9mm or .45ACP. Turns out it's another one of your 22s. Speaking of Clean, I'd like to try them CCI Clean 22 ammo. Still never come across them only SV. Yah one thing about heading out is you'll end up having to clean them, like a coffee mug.
Lawrence. Thanks For Viewing. That was a long and not so interesting video. So, thanks. That gun does look like something other than a .22. It is a nice shooting gun (with hot ammo). I have never shot .22 Clean and don't think I have ever seen it at my local gun stores. I like to shoot CCI SV, but this gun just won't have it. But shooting any gun or ammo is fun! Lawrence, thanks again and have a great day. Take care.
@@bobcatforever3485 I just bought a hat for the summer when I head out. A waxed canvas bucket hat in whiskey color. I hardly shoot with a pistol. I like the Ruger 22s in rifle mode. + it was interesting, not many guys clean thier gun on camera then try it. I use a toothbrush too, get the hard to reach spots. Do one one your 10/22 next time.
@@lawrencehawk5179 Thanks Again! I have a good collection of bucket hats, switch them out as I do the various videos. My next video that I have been editing the last couple days will be with my Ruger 10/22 just shooting several ammos from only 50 yards. I generally don't shoot a large volume of ammo, so don't do a lot of gun cleaning. I did go thru my 10/22 and the mag well was really dirty and had probable been that way for some time. Thanks again and have a great afternoon.
@@bobcatforever3485 can't wait to sheck it out. Still no potato chip containers yet? I seen pop cans, steel plate, but you the first guy I see with potato chip targets. 🤣
@@lawrencehawk5179 Thanks. You never know, chip targets may make a come back when my camera guy gets to eating potato chips again. Sad to say, but pop cans are more available. Thanks again and have a fun day.
BCF does Gsg firefly 22lr have leaf spring because mine the hammer goes back on double action i run it on Single action and has a lot a misfires and Do you know how to fix it in home
Elver. Thanks For Viewing And Commenting. I don't have the answer to your first question. I do know that when I bought the Firefly it came with a second recoil spring in the box and they told me to change it out if was just going to shoot range ammo. So I did that but it still dose not like lower power ammo, but it runs great on the hot stuff. I also shoot the Firefly 99% of the time in single action. Thanks again and take care.
My firefly even with no ammo, I racked the slide and the hammer follows, the hammer wont stay back for single action They say its the leaf spring but this pistol doesn’t have that
@@elvergalarga8477 I just checked my gun and when racked the hammer dose stay back ready to fire.
@@bobcatforever3485 yes but mine doesn’t do you know what might be the issue
@@elvergalarga8477 Vlver. Sorry, I just do not know what could be causing that.

Didn't read the manual! Change to the light spring for low velocity ammo. Embarrassing to see you miss that.
CAVUAV8. Thanks for taking a look. Actually, the lady at the gun store that sold me the gun told me to change to the lighter spring before I even had shot it once. So, I had been running with the lighter spring from the beginning, it just did not seem to be light enough for some of the ammo. Thanks again for viewing and commenting. Take care.
try clp (cleaner lube, protect ) federal seems runs dirty in my savage long story short i got both my tube channels running the one one my phone wont allow comments dont ask why lol check them out nice cleaning try clean mags Jeffrey Milosevich
