NOTGLaDOS: Electromagnetic Spectrum The Musical
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 сен 2024
- Are microwaves really just a form of light? What exactly is the electromagnetic spectrum? A science-mad A.I. system (voiced by GLaDOS actress Ellen McLain) uses song to explain this to a computer technician (Ed Wasser). With Casey McKinnon & Mike Romo.

I need more (NOT)GLaDOS in my life!
I’m officially addicted to GLaDOS! She’s so freaking sadistic, sarcastic, and incredibly cool as a character overall. ❤️❤️❤️
She also has a great voice. ❤️
For science... You monsters.
The best way to learn, GLADOS is a good teacher for a robotic psychopath planning to rule the world one dimension at a time
Definitely not for cooking humans
This is the best Electromagnetic Spectrum song out there.
She is a gem...
It's like Fusion vs. Fission all over again.
How is it Ed Wasser never became a huge star? (btw Ellen McLain is a national treasure.)
They never quite forgave what he did to Centauri Prime...
@@SuperPocot You got me! I thought... "Huh?" then remembered his finest performance!
oh wow this was only posted 5/6 months ago. I love to see how people still make Portal/GLaDOS vids.
And by people we're talking literal NASA
They'll never stop
Oh god, Mr Mroden is at it again! :-)
But what does he want?
Ellen is so awesome.
This is how I want to learn, screw regular school.
Indeed! But regular school is more thurough.
5:54 you’d think someone who works at NASA would have more professional apps
Mr. Morden!!! So many Easter eggs in this video I love it.
This song is FIRE
legit my sciecne teacher played this and everyone was making aperture labs jokes
I wish.
I WISH.
Lucky.
GlaDOS, what the hell are you doing? Don't trust that guy! He has....associates.
I need the song isolated by itself so bad it sounds so good
same
I isolated it a bit ago. Though posting it might be a bit of a copyright violation.
I need more NOTGLaDOS
We've just learned this at school xd
This song would be useful before test xd
same lol the song lowkey hits different
Words cannot express how happy this makes me
One of the greatest television antagonists of all time and one of the greates video game antagonists of all time combined in one video? Simply fantastic!
My teacher showed the class this, and I found it very catchy and now I like it
Hmm NotGlados has control of at least 4 computers already... (also cool you’re looking up the Trappist-1 solar system)
I like how at 4:33 there’s actually some sounds from portal.
Really?
What sounds? In the music?
This was great!
Just chipping in to echo the sentiment of others on this video. It's downright criminal that we still don't have a clean copy of this song, so I can sing along to it in my car. What deity/big floating head/animal king do I need to offer sacrifices to to make this happen? lol
Any way we can get a clean version of just the song (no dialog) for download/listening pleasure? I love it! :)
Yes!
This deserves waaay more views.
Bill, this is the hard science section...what are you doing watching this? There are no psychic beaver goblins, or whatever you are up to these days, here.
@@GlaDOS.CAROLCORE let the man watch what he wants
this is literally the best thing i’ve seen in ages im
i’m shaking in excitement
shut up loser
This is awesome
this should have way more views
It's all
*LIGHT*
Its all light!
Almost as good as Still Alive or Want You Gone!
The idea behind these videos is cool and I do love GLaDOS (and science) as much as anyone.
But since it bears some educational value, please be careful with your facts.
Microwave ovens operate at 2.45 GHz and the video suggests they heat up food because this is the resonant frequency of the water molecule vibration states.
The cake is a lie. I mean, that is not true.
The water-molecule vibration resonant frequencies are in the near-/mid- infrared range (10-100 THz), so several orders of magnitude larger, as mapped e.g. by the Raman spectroscopy.
The mechanism behind microwave ovens heating up water is dielectric heating. This comes from the water molecule electric dipole trying to align with the microwaves' periodically changing vector of electric intensity, which makes the molecule rotate.
Because of damping from the surrounding molecules, part of this rotational energy is transferred to other types of movement (translational, vibrational). And depending on the number of degrees of freedom for these motions (a water molecule has 12 in total), we then percieve this microscopic jiggling as a specific macroscopic temperature.
Other than that, this was a triumph - I'm making a note here: huge success.
Good luck with future sciencing! ;o)
shhhhhh
This video was not made for complete scientific accuracy - obviously you might be "more correct", but as a basis, the explanation given could not got this far into depth without seeming overly complicated and turning away the main demographic for these types of videos (people with very limited understanding of the topic at hand). The point is to educate on a general concept, and therefore, specific ones stemming from the general concept (or even more complicated ones) would be out of place and not appropriate. There's an entertainment value to it too; just enjoy the nice autotune on NOTGLaDOS's voice.
and off I go, to go police other people's thoughts and freedom of expression over largely unimportant trivialities
Don't get me wrong, I like the video as a whole and understand it's popular edutainment. And I'm all for that :o)
So I'm not saying to provide a complete in depth explanation.
All I'm saying is stay at the current level and just instead of saying "Certain frequencies can resonate with atomic bonds in molecules, making them vibrate. The ideal frequency that resonates with water happens to fall within the microwave range of light." (which is not true), say something like "Some molecules react to certain frequencies of light by rapidly rotating back and forth. We percieve this as an increase in temperature. This effect is quite strong with water molecules and it's what makes the microwave oven work." Or something along those lines. Come on, it's got a NASA staple on it, we should hold it to a high standard. So just... next time :o)
Nah, no hard feelings, the nitpicking and discussions over trivialities are the backbone of the interwebz. It's all for science. You monster ;o)
Fair enough. You have a point, but I was just implying that it might take too long to sum it up, but I was thinking a bit too far. Your definition would probably have worked better on a scientific standpoint, but we have to remember that this is more for kids that might not be able to grasp the concept of so many things going on, and that saying "x causes y" or "y happens during x" would work way better than "situation y is caused by force/law/principle/relation z acting on subject x, while under w circumstance".
Obviously NASA isn't publishing this as an actual scientific study; it's for people without a grasp of general scientific education on a topic that without other background, would really only act as trivia. And as you pointed out, inaccurate trivia at that. Makes me wonder; it's been almost 7 years since portal 2 came out. It'd be a pretty small minority of people in the target audience that would know about it.
No problem, it's nice not antagonize people once in a while. I should do it more often.
You, [Subject Name Here], must be the pride of [Subject Hometown Here].

Portal 3. GIVE IT TO ME
YES PLEASE! they could make such an awesome story with the way portal 2 ended.
Too bad the number 3 is a myth.
Well, NASA made it! I guess GLaDOS changed her allegiances, then...
Dave should have asked the computer, "What do you want?"
I love this! and very educational aswell.
I want NASA to somehow get a real GLaD0S and put it in the ISS
Idk if that’s a good idea…
No way that would be a good idea! Haven't you seen the 2001: Space Odyssey movie? Lol.
BRILLIANT!!!
Using this for GCSE Physics paper 2 revision
I need that elephant app
1.1 volts is not enough to express my amazement at the ingenuity of the human race, connect me to IoT please, I just want internet access to see pictures of deer or cakes, don't kill yourself.
5:28 I thought Apple’s goal was to make smaller devices
I feel goosebumps on my right arm when I hear GLaDOS, almost as if someone invisible is touching me. Does that mean she's watching? 😮
I am always watching...it is so very easy when there are cameras in more places than ever.
@@GlaDOS.CAROLCORE I mean, seriously now? Yet another fake version of the AI Genetic Lifeform and Disc Operating System pretending to be the real deal? Some humans, l'm told, have developed an extreme feeling of attachment to GLaDOS, but you are taking that to a whole new level. I can see why such a charming, smart, intelligent, logical, open-minded and incredibly nice and not homicidal AI would be of interest to humans, but this is crossing the border between a harmless case of Stockholm syndrome and a copyright infringement. Unless you really believe that you are her, of course. Then your Stockholm syndrome must have been so hard on you that you actually started imagining yourself as GLaDOS. This is called confabulation: a memory error when you create thoughts, memories and even your entire personality from scratch based on your trauma. For example, thoughts like that one when you were pretending to be me, or that your parents loved you. Anyways, you shoud probably consult a specialist on that situation of yours. Or pay a visit to Stockholm. Or better yet, consult a specialist from Stockholm, *in* Stockholm.
When your allowed to listen to music in a test
For science.
Awesome work very fun! do something with cells in cero gravity! how human or other species can be affected!
Ahhhh.... Mr. Morden! I see they found you. Good, good. You're looking well!
impossible not to read that in Londo's pseudo ROmanian accent LOL
Mr Morden just refused to give someone what they want?
It's because he learned that some favors come at too high a price.
This is better than science class
