I feel with them reworking most abilities into passives they are going to need to figure out what to do with Phantom. His entire point was he steals the skills, while yes he still can, is being lost more and more.
well the skills being converted to passives are mostly att speed buffs and some stats. the new attack skills are still actives so it doesnt really affect much, but maybe nexon will adjust the steal penalty in order to make up for it?
@@RoyalSanitySam that's the point of phantom u steal all the buff and use one strongest skill. There's no point of having dozen attack skill when all u need is 2~3
I feel like there's three routes that they can push phantom towards. 1. Getting rid of the skill stealing mechanic in favor for a card aesthetic (My least favorite choice but I wouldn't blame Nexon, it's the easiest to balance) 2. Allowing Phantoms to steal passives as well. (Very hectic, and very hard to balance) 3. Allowing Phantoms to steal skills from classes other than explorers. (I don't actually think this will help that much) My opinion is to go the 2nd route, and just expand the number of usable stolen skills too. Maybe make it so you can also replace Phantom's Actives and Passives with other classes' actives and passives if you find yourself not using all of your toolkit. I'd really like Phantom to feel like the Mix&Match class, where you can really customize your build for every situation or playstyle. If there's multiple high tier Phantom Builds, then it would really add a lot of fun to the class. Vs right now where there's basically an objective best choice for bossing, which is take all of the damage buffs. Like for instance replacing Vol D'Ame and Final Feint while training, since you rarely use them anyway while mobbing. Would it be hard to balance? Probably, but Phantom has basically always felt like a bad class because their ratios have always been low. All he really has is a lot of lines, and even now DW and WA have him beat pretty significantly.
Seems like the developers are too consumed in the skill-stealing mechanic (or novelty at this point) of the class and aren’t viewing the class as a class itself. Phantoms are punished more by their skill stealing mechanic than anything and that might be because there’s just too much to consider in their tool kit - so devs think the easy approach is to make them both inconvenient to use and weaker than needed to prevent it from being overpowered. If they want to keep the skill stealing novelty, we should be able to steal skills from job instructors. Having to rely on a player base isn’t cutting it anymore, especially in certain servers. Maybe they should consider replacing Impeccable Memory with a shift skill (Think: Xenon) where you can shift an attack to be either single target, multi-target, or something in between. That better fits a jack of all trade route than what’s currently in place - switching skills in battle is basically a death wish. The shift skills can take on attributes of the most commonly stolen explorer skills - similar hitboxes, etc. but re-skin them to match Phantom’s color/card scheme/theme. This way devs would only need to balance around a much more limited kit. I also feel like the one skill per Job tier isn’t working out anymore. Allow these four slots to be from any tier (Final Cut & Sharp Eyes used concurrently would be awesome), and give us more steal slots at each tier. If the damage reduction from stolen skills is because of access to Final Cut / Cross Surge, then make those skills unsteal-able, give Phantom similar native skills (pref. With similar functionality), and balance more easily around a simplified kit. Ultimately, this class is great idea with poor execution. Maybe it’s on brand for this game at this point… :(
Too bad. They should buff the stealing skill. Maybe allow them to steal from Cygnus Knights, but they aren't in the best spot either and the ones that are have prereqs that would make it suboptimal. Maybe allow them to steal skills from any class to open up the pool, minus classes with unique usage mechanics (Kinesis, Kanna, the demons, etc).
Thanks to this comment, the mental image of someone like phantom chucking a train by stealing kinesis skill made me laugh. And Phantom has canonically been able to steal non explorer skills like in Heroes Of Maple where he stole Luminous orb, so hey, why not?
Makes me feel like Im burning a phantom for no reason right now. Might have to take another x year break till they showcase the phantom revamp. But this is tragic to hear.
here's an idea why not make phantom able to steal both resistance and Cygnus knights skills in al fairness it seems pretty okay to do this and could be a fun and decent buff to phantom if not both then at least 1 of the two, secondly maybe give phantom a buff depending on what archtype he uses, for example if phantom uses a skill belong to a thief class give him crit rate and crit damage, or at the very least something that activates and buffs him when he uses a stolen skill
As a phantom main, I can say there will be a change in overall skill to steal since many has their active buff switched out as passives. Cross surge replaced with extreme archery. As now extreme archery gives 30 fd vs 20/25 from cross surge. Dark sight / magic guard Rage Final cut/mobbing alternatives Bullseye/marksman hyper.
i think phantom stealing from all classes in maplestory is the best solution just like with the explorers you don't let him steal every skill but this would help a lot and would make the class one of the most unique classes in the game removing the stealing mechanic would defeat the whole purpose of us phantom mains playing him
That's a lot of maintenance and the least future-proof solution Closest possible solution would be allowing them to steal Cygnus Knight skills after their remaster but realistically they'll have to drastically change Phantom and that will be a hard hit to those who main it
I'm sure that it's the same in Gms with rage and magic guard. Reason is that both are considered damage reduction and the game only Let's you use one or the other
As a Phantom main I've come to expect Nexon to forget about the class entirely. After the update the class is worse since we can no longer steal rage. But we're lucky we didn't lose cross surge and final cut.
They reworked Cross Surge so instead of 80% Final Damage of current hp it gives Berserkers 50% passively and 20 or 25% when active, so we'd only get 20/25% sadly ;_;
@@DerpwaldDuck no, Cross Surge has been 20% for a while now. The final damage that was lost was instead found in Phantom’s own passive skills, so it actually made it so Phantom wasn’t so reliant on Cross Surge anymore. But yeah Phantom is in a bad spot rn

Give him a skill to steal only attavks, one for buffs, one for debuffs, one for utility, you don't need to give them that many for each job, but one per job is lame. Honestly I wish they removed cross surge and just gave us the 25% fd into a passive so we can actually use that slot for something else, or have it while mobbing efficiently
Phantoms are still a very strong class despite not getting a "buff" you still have Frozen orb, Arrow Platter, Pathfinders first and second job skills. Phantoms stolen skills should only be used as buffs for damage in bosses otherwise our whole kit would be obsolete, our training stays the same or even improved with the new updated skills from what I've said previously.

I think the issue with Phantom is that it just absolutely sucks. If you don't have the preferred stolen abilities you're basically useless and forced to go with your 3rd job ability Blason to be even remotely mobile while mobbing. Boss damage is pretty low as well, but it's still within reasonable limits.
How about letting phantom to have another skill, which will summon an illusion to use one loadout attacking skill for every x cards charged in deck?Seems cool but mobbing still remain suck
thats not cool that u cant steal good 4th job skill. it was already hard enough as a phantom since explorer classes r played a lot less cause all the new classes got the good stuff. (did they change it so phantom can steal any skill from any class now? before this comes out) i should get my phantom to lvl 200 now before it get worse. i hope its a bug they can fix or a change they can do.
Still dont understand why phantoms cant steal skills from cygnus knights and resistance he should be able to at least steal from cygnus knights it doesnt make sense why he doesnt
IMO Phantoms shouldnt be able to steal attacking skills from other characters, it makes the job... awkard. People don't use Phantom's own attacking skills because they are less efficient than other job skills, but then playing Phantom feels like playing a cheap version of another job. Buff Phantom's attacks and let him steal buffs and passives from other jobs. If the fear is that doing so would make the job broken then add a cap so that each stolen skill is only a fraction X% as strong as the original but can be stacked with Phantom's own buffs. If even that is not enough, have Phantom steal stats.
I really wish they did away with the ‘skill stealing’ thing. 1) I, personally, really like the individuality of the heros so, I never liked the fact that you can just use someone else’s exact skills. 2) Phantom has the only real ‘card throwing’ gimmick and I would love to see more of their unique skills
skill stealing is detrimental to phantoms ingame health. it is the only reason why they keep phantom underpowered. seriously. if they just let it die, like they let dragon knights go Dark and Paladins lose their elemental edge. they even trash bin'd transform. its was an interesting idea but its not working, they should just scrap it. so he can be a full class rather that 1/5 of everyone else
Sitting at 221 on my Phantom and being that I main this class. Watching this video has kinda made the mood horrid..Sounds like they need to put more dedicated work into the class, instead of just making everything passive and useless to us. Either that or they create entire new skills for us to use because to me I feel we just got screwed. The fact that it seems extremely limited on what we can actually steal even though that is the ENTIRE point of this class being unique is to STEAL SKILLS. Really don't feel like funding my Phantom anymore at this point, grinded all through Burning just to see this video and be told basically; Explorer re-vamp actually made Phantoms worse due to skills turning passive, we didn't get any buffs to our own skills and our damage is basically less now. Oh but don't know worry guys! You can now jump upwards.
kms is solidifying phantom's identity as an Explorer Knockoff 🤣 with all explorer skills turning into passives, phantom can only steal weaker versions AKA phantom is a cheap knockoff of explorers lol
I dont understand, it is such a cool class. It was already one of the weakest in the game, so lets make it even weaker ? Unforunate as a phantom main at heart
Really phantoms have become weak? Guess those players aren't even playing phantoms properly then or just basing their class dps on some dpm chart that is never accurate. Unable to steal lots of skills, what's the point of stealing 80 skills when you're just going to go for the BiS skills which i can cut it down to like less than 8 in global and sea servers.
Aaaaah yes, phantom, the maple paradox, the class that gets weaker with every buff

Dam i actually feel bad for Phantom isn't he one of the 5 heroes, why they do my boy like that
What if Phantom could steal a single 5th job skill from explorers
It's heree~
thats not cool that u cant steal good 4th job skill. it was already hard enough as a phantom since explorer classes r played a lot less cause all the new classes got the good stuff. (did they change it so phantom can steal any skill from any class now? before this comes out) i should get my phantom to lvl 200 now before it get worse. i hope its a bug they can fix or a change they can do.
Damn, I'm not even stealing skills. Just hit 200. Again, no idea what's good or not and where to look for people xD
so we cant steal hero's rush skill?
Still dont understand why phantoms cant steal skills from cygnus knights and resistance he should be able to at least steal from cygnus knights it doesnt make sense why he doesnt
WHERE IS BOOTY WARRIOR GT???
wow phantom now can jump upward??
i lvl a Phantom to 200, without stealing skills xD didn't even bother.
We need heroes classes revamp
my boy gets no love
Besides stealing skills which is exhausting this class honestly sucks
phantom, shade, and luminius need rework
Poor phantom:(
No mention of stealing pathfinder for 1st/2nd job? :O
he mentioned it
You already spoiled me the video on discord lol
I really want to leave a like but is in 69 and I can't change it :(
the real MS thief
IMO Phantoms shouldnt be able to steal attacking skills from other characters, it makes the job... awkard. People don't use Phantom's own attacking skills because they are less efficient than other job skills, but then playing Phantom feels like playing a cheap version of another job. Buff Phantom's attacks and let him steal buffs and passives from other jobs. If the fear is that doing so would make the job broken then add a cap so that each stolen skill is only a fraction X% as strong as the original but can be stacked with Phantom's own buffs. If even that is not enough, have Phantom steal stats.
I came back from not playing for years and all my stolen skills are gone.... i quit again today... fuck this game
It is time for Phantom to be able to steal non-explorer classes in current year. Pl0x Nexon
Unforunate as a phantom main at heart
please shade after explorer remaster
i wonder if its only me, but mana in this video is tilting me a bit haha
Really phantoms have become weak? Guess those players aren't even playing phantoms properly then or just basing their class dps on some dpm chart that is never accurate. Unable to steal lots of skills, what's the point of stealing 80 skills when you're just going to go for the BiS skills which i can cut it down to like less than 8 in global and sea servers.
Maple seems so lame rn, all classes feel the same. To much aoe from the start.. Damn i miss bbb.
