Chris Stein was near death with his disease and she and the band pretty much had to break up and she devoted her time solely to taking care of Chris and completely dropped out of the spotlight. Also during this period she and Chris got back into drugs very heavily because of the stress of his disease and the fact that Blondie broke up.
