    Hi everyone, this is Dion, the "big brother, apprentice" from the video.
    I’m going to attempt to answer some of your questions that have been posed.
    Please forgive the formatting, I’m not much of a writer.
    Firstly, "NO FOOD AND NO DRINKS", I believe that to be a local health code consideration. We had a massive employee break room with a table and chairs, microwave, fridge etc. clients could certainly bring food into the break area for their day.
    The calf: 😂. I’m not lying! Just stating my opinion. I think the very back of your calf is not bad in and of itself, but certainly as you get closer towards your knee ditch, or down towards the Achilles heel, yeah, that nonsense is SPICEY! No argument from me:)
    The shops didn’t last much longer than maybe another 2-3 years after this aired. The owners had two shops. We weren’t allowed to mention the other studio while filming. The studio in the video(Antioch) was the first to close as it was by far the slower shop.
    Within two or three years, all the other guys had quit and moved on. Nick owns a really cool little studio outside of Chicago where I believe Mark still works. I believe Joel was working there as well, but not sure.
    The owners ended up moving to Arizona I believe, while still owning their Libertyville location. Their apprentice was left in charge of running the studio. That shop ended up closing almost immediately afterwords.
    I don’t believe either of the owners are still involved in the industry, though could certainly be mistaken. We most definitely are no longer in contact.
    A couple of clarifications, we did have an amazingly talented tattooer working with us who refused to be on the show. Smart bastard!;). Dave Tieman “name in blood" IG. Truly an all around damn good tattooer who is more than capable of multiple styles and aesthetics. Anyone would be damn lucky to have him in their shop.
    My brother in law Eric had a local reputation for being a very good tattooer. His work is super clean, crisp, and always looks more than professional. No real concept of artistic principles to speak of, but he was a very adequate, proficient tattooer.
    I suspect that the quality of their photography methods at the time might have as much to do with the perceived quality of their work as anything else.
    I’ll go further and say about the shops tattoo quality: if the shop owner/head artist/mentor doesn’t show up at work, and actually mentor his apprentices (each of whom paid $6k for their five year apprenticeship BTW(I was family, so it only cost me $3k) how the hell is anyone going to be a decent tattooer?
    I won’t get too specific,but I had a heads up that the show was going to target me as the problem. I even told the owners that I knew I was going to be the asshole, and was still willing to do it because I believed it would help the shop. In a really odd turn of events, I truly believe that I was the only one to recognize any benefit from doing this show.
    All that nonsense at the end about how much business etc improved was all nonsense. Numbers pulled out of thin air.
    As you all saw, I was "officially put into the rotation to start tattooing and making money for the studio." The second the cameras were gone, I was told in no uncertain terms that they could not afford to let me tattoo, because they would have to hire someone to cover my position at the counter, where I worked for free, and they just couldn’t afford to do that.
    Wow…I never vent like this! Years of therapy gone:)
    I’ve moved back to my home town of Bay City Michigan where I own a new studio called Magic Circle Tattoo. We’ve only been open for a few years. I’ve had to build the inside as well as train a few apprentices, who, I’m very happy to say didn’t pay a penny for their apprenticeships! I really couldn’t be any happier with my studio and crew and the universe truly seems to be shining on our little venture:)

    HI FRENS :D
    Tattoo artist here, back with another ramble! This one is short this time, I swear ;u;
    I wanted to touch base on why not allowing food or drinks in a tattoo shop isn't necessarily a red flag - many US states, such as Oklahoma (section 842.1 of the Oklahoma Statute) actually prohibit eating or drinking in the area where body piercing or tattooing is being performed, and as such it's illegal for shops in those areas to allow food and drink in the establishment.
    This obviously lends to reason that so long as food or drinks aren't within the immediate area where the client is being tattooed or pierced it SHOULD be okay, but because tattoo shops aren't regulated by the health department in many states in the US, shops often will just outright not allow said snackos so as to prevent the hefty fines that are associated with getting caught. And those fines can be a LOT - some places they're as high as $1,500 per incident, which is stupid but man, who knows anymore.
    Blessedly this isn't a common problem (and often we just... allow it anyway because having a client pass out is NOT fun), so it shouldn't be something folks run into often. That being said, always check with your artist and ask if there's a safe space in the shop that you can eat or drink without getting stuff in your fresh tattoo

    No, those were bad tattoos in 2012. And bio mech has always been a niche style that's difficult to do well and very easy to screw up. I have biomech work and you need a specialist for good work.

  • @sannik2634
    @sannik2634 3 месяца назад +15

    The biomechanical thing came out of NOWHERE. I really don't think doing a different style that nobody in the studio specializes in - and absolutely won't be able to specialize in it IN FIVE DAYS - would bring money, as there are for sure other artists who do that style way better and have been doing it for way longer. (Also as a sidenote, that seems like such a 2000's/2010's trend, you don't see them a lot these days I feel like.)
    edit// Also HOW are the parents who bring their kids for art classes automatic customers?? Maybe they just want their kids to have a hobby and aren't interested in tattoos at all? And even if one of the parents does decide to get a tattoo - that's one tattoo! When they could be using that same time they're spending on the damn class for doing their jobs! This episode was so bizarre in so many ways. It feels like they just want to do something different to keep the viewers' interest on the show, and that is happening at the detriment of the actual studios shown in the show. I think the biomechanical thing was just because they had asked Roman beforehand to be in the show and they had to sneak him into one of the episodes, whether or not his style suits the studio or not. That's reality TV for you, I guess.

    • @dionrsocia
      @dionrsocia 2 месяца назад +1

      It was a scheduling consideration. Roman was the guest artist available to do the show that week, so it was Bio-Mech week.

    as someone who graduated his apprenticeship lately i can see absolutely no reason why anyone should have been paying me, i was trading work for learning and having a job besides tattooing taught me to work hard and treat tattooing seriously to be honest. being an assistant is a different job from being an apprentice not that everyone treats apprentices properly but being paid for minimal labor would've been crazy on the part of my mentor

Man is supposed to be here to help out their shop, but just deprived one of what? 3? tattooers in the whole place of working to perfect a style Joey says will get them money.... that doesn't make sense.

    Tbh the shop didn’t look like a tattoo shop to me, looked more like a restaurant. The makeover made it much better and the red was a great choice.
    Unfortunately I don’t think any of this is really gunna save the place. I feel bad but the artists at this shop were severely lacking in skill, every tattoo they showed was muddy and flat. I hope they continued their education over the years and are better now and hopefully the piercer/owner actually started going to work.

I’m American. Most places have shirts that I go to. My husband got me a shirt that says Tattoos are Stupid because now in a short sleeve shirt you can see 3 of my tattoos. I didn’t have any visible ones for the first 19 years. Most don’t even know I have a single tattoo.

    There were things here that didn't sound logical to me. Punishing a guy for having the "audacity" of getting a day off with something that will hurt the shop more than him, coming up with a very specific style out of the blue, not addressing how bad the artwork was to begin with, the whole 5 year unpaid apprenticeship... I don't know. Makes for good television but meh.

Where did he even get that number from to ask of it of his brother in law?
