Alissa is spot on! In Santana Hindu Dharma, all of creation and all that comes out of creation is divine energy/consciousness. In the Upanishads there is a shloka which explains this concept.
In India all education and teaching were given by the guru and Gurukul. And Guru basically taught both physical and spiritual knowledge, invader didn't like that we actually practicing different religion (different from Islam and Christianity) So they destroyed our Gurukul. And Gurukul were always situated near the Indian temple. So you can guess what had happened back then.

Then the Indra(the heaven god ) was pleased from him and requested him to ask for a boon in gift.
Then king said I want to go home and meet my family.Then Indra said it's not possible Because not only your family but all your son's and grandsons and their great grandsons have died , because several centuries have past on earth.
Because 1 year in heaven equals to 1 yug on earth (1yuga =17,28,000 year ) have past on earth.

Translation : This point (any point) is the centre of the earth (as the earth is round). This yajna (performed in Vedi) is also centre of bhuvam, the space lit up by one Sun. This soma, electricity is the powerful potency of the fire and the other is the great source of sound and speech. Here it has been said that any point of the earth is the centre of it. The earth is round and therefore, it is the case with this. Any point of a ball becomes its centre as it is round. Similarly , every point of the earth is its centre as the earth is global. 196 crore years ago omnipresent god gives us the knowledge of the vedas. So that millions of years ago the vedas gives the round shape of the earth. This vedic mantra clearly tells us that the earth is round.
