Appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot and then sharing your findings with us on your channel. This info should be taken as a warning on not to "short cut" your way to making repairs especially on critical items involving the engine, power train, or vehicle's safety appliances. "Exact OEM replacement" or don't do it at all.
Thank you. Agreed 100%.
O'Reilly's sells this exact part for $287 (I just bought it yesterday). They are the ONLY retailer I could find for this part. The part number is FCM125! I hope this helps anyone looking for it.
Also, it worked!!
Rock auto does as well for much cheaper
excellent video and information sharing, really helped me to resolve my issue as i visited many mechanic and they dont even understand why i was missing throttle pick and also intermittent fan off. appreciate your support
No problem and thank you for watching!!!
gotta be honest, I thought your theory was a little far fetched until you put it back in to verify. THAT was a good video, not a typical RUclips "here's how I fixed it" video.
Thank you for the kind words!
@@ProjectDIY2does this fix the problem with the fan running loud after driving it a while & causing battery to die? It’s a 2012 Ford Focus SEL
I learned a long time ago that it's never worth it to get cheaper car parts. 09 for focus owner here facing the same issues. Thank you for this video.
Thanks you for watching!
Sorry you went through that man. You’ve been a huge blessing though. Thank you for sharing your video video.
Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching!
Awesome Video, really helped me out ! Just fixed my 2013 focus with your great video. Put in a used oem from a junkyard and it's working. Thank you
No problem! Thanks for watching!!
I have a Ford Galaxy with no workibg AC. After diagnostics it turned out the fan control module is bad. Since it is summer after driving for a while in town traffic the car seemed tot overheat and some fumes came out under the bonnet, also the coolant level dropped. Now it makes sense since the fan does not work. It did not occur to me that these issues are related. Thanks for the explanation now I know for sure one fix will solve two issues
Thanks for watching!
Ive been runnin in to that overheating problem. I replaced the Fan, water pump, ECT Sensor, and thermostat. Im surprised. Ive never seen this kind of craziness with a car either. I also have been working on cars alot.
Thanks for watching!!
Just watched your video after my module died on my 2012 focus, big thanks for the heads up and saving me a potential headache.
You’re welcome!
What part did you end up buying that worked?
I bought an OEM Bosch part off of eBay.
What is the part number you ordered from eBay that Bosch one? I’m ordering one from Rick Auto for $142 but if I can one off of eBay for less and it’s OEM I would do so.
1137328567
Just make sure it's an OEM Bosch unit. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Man for the info! I am having the same issue first with the fan and now I'm running bad with no power and bad mpg just like you said, I just bought that 20 buck piece arrives tomorrow. Question, Is necessary buy the purge valve in this scenario?
I’m not sure what you mean by purge valve… if you bought a cheap aftermarket fan relay then you need to get an original Bosch fan relay.
Im doing just that Sir. Ive never had to Pray 🙏 this much for an car 😂 i went ahead and ordered the OEM part. I wish you well Sir with many blessings from the Car Gods. Im hoping that what i ordered comes and takes care of this issue. Have a great day sir
Thanks for watching!
Try as I might I can't find a Bosch fcm. I came here after installing an ebay "made in America" fcm and am having the same issues you've described. I can only find Bosch fcm off of wrecked cars. The junkyards were no help. They could tell me what vehicles were in stock, wanted $109 for a fcm and no returns. Any advice on where I can find a part w/o paying Ford for a new fan with module for $320. I just put a new Dorman fan with module on it. The module that came with the fan didn't even fit on the car, but the fan did so I used the old fcm. Now the fan only intermittently runs. Same issues, no cold air sitting at a light, windows won't defrost in the rain bc the ac doesn't always work. It occasionally overheats sitting in traffic. Let me add, while I've been unhappy with this focus, since I bought it due to the transmission issues, it does have nearly 300,000 miles on it. So I've got my money out of it.
I found this… verify your part #’s before ordering though: www.ebay.com/itm/335198680254
@ProjectDIY2 Sadly it doesn't fit my 12 focus. The part looks the same, but there are no measurements to confirm. I have found a few off of wrecked vehicles, but they all don't take returns and say they are unsure if they actually work.
You are one smart guy. Keep making great videos. New subscriber..
Thank you so much for the kind words!!!
Thank you for this video! It helped me diagnose the exact reason my 2012 Focus Titanium was overheating off and on recently, AC was intermittent as well and there was a bad smell coming through when it wasn't working, just odd stuff. SO MY SOLUTION was simply to go to the junk yard and hunt down one of these bad boys, the Engine Cooling Fan Controller Relay, OEM Ford 'Made In France'.
Easy removal if you take the airbox off first, bought it for under $100 WITH 90-day warranty just in case, and bingo. Works like a CHARM! My overheating problems went away, my AC now works completely like new, powerful, blower, no stale air stench, AC works when idling, etc. etc. Apparently as far as I can tell the fan controller also is part of the AC system along with engine fans, etc.
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
Hey man! Trying to figure out something similar on a ford fusion. When i turn the ac on low the cooling fan doesn't turn on unless I put the ac speed on 4 or higher and the cooling fan will remain on. It freezes on low fan settings because the cooling fan is not coming on? Not sure its the module, the fan, or something else. I basically have to leave it at fan speed of 4 or higher for consistent ac but would love to have it work correctly at lower speeds as well.
Dang man, that's a tough one. I don't think I can help you with that one. Thanks for watching!!
I just grounded the black wire on the fan to frame. Easy fix
I stop going aftermarket when it comes to sensors and modules I learned that the hard way when I was dealing with a faulty crank sensor got one from eBay had me going back and forth thinking I had timing belt issues. Went to the junk yard picked up a used but original sensor and all the timing problems went away.
Just bit the bullet and bought this part oem 300$ everything else online is under 30$.
Lol . I tried to put a grounding from the module . It doesn't work at all .
Im having issues with my fan running on high intermittently even after short runs when my car is off and when i open or close driver door. Do you think this could be a faulty module? Replaced temp sensor but no difference and car is not overheating and runs great.
Sounds like a loose electrical connection somewhere.
Same thing with mine! I’ve been trying to figure out everything.
Some people say it might be the whole fuse box that’s causing the problem.
@greenleaf1292 I bought a second hand fan module from a breakers yard and replaced it myself, that was 4 days ago and have no trouble since 🤞🤞
@@davidmackintosh429 thanks so much for the information. Have your self a great day!
Thank you soo much, I am getting code p048 but my fan was coming on now and then ,my car runs crap, I cleaned the throttle body, all sensor cleaned, replaced fuses and relay, spark plugs, evp ,water pump, bleeding the system, still over heats and rough idles....
I think this is my last option buying this
Could possibly be a blown head gasket. Unfortunately these cars are prone to that.
@@ProjectDIY2 I have just replaced the whole bottom half, the over heating doesnt it's seasonal
That was the best Amazon review on a part I’ve ever seen lol
🤣🤣
Good day sir. Try as I might, I can't locate a BOSH unit on ebay for my 2012 Ford Focus. Do you happen to remember the name of the shop?
The seller doesn’t list a fan module anymore. I did find this though: www.ebay.com/itm/225791213775?fits=Year%3A2012%7CModel%3AFocus%7CMake%3AFord&hash=item34923480cf:g:NpgAAOSw28tlEzhr&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0JGvAv3JdSdudyFXCqSyPuzctaN4oYw%2Fi%2Fwu69bVbLSaUOyoip3HkdnKCzu0MM4qHfXuwwOQUc%2Bw%2BdjFemSdxD4d1ODF0ultBjlrjaBY2rIONQeD38b2%2Bln0iXcEmtXnAAZqFDbfZsXQFChZfDx6hr41ST99svR4q%2FZXtRU189zBcw9y0j9vjYeWbZ6Tcku5F4xIQicL9F4b9Shh6xDlXjcPAwRQgYE1O34MLLaJ9uJI8TX9hbJoSefE%2FgoFcIaVzNXrZO3jjpkZEgxf2902LSw%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_af_Z3eYg
@ProjectDIY2 Thank you for taking the time to look. I saw this one but hesitant to replace it with a used part. I may have to cough up more bucks for an OEM part. It's crazy what they currently charge for a 2012 OEM module.
Yes it does make your vehicle drive rough because I just replaced mine and I can't believe the difference.
Thanks. I'm glad someone else can confirm this for me. Amazon cart parts suck...
I tore mine apart I have a 2012 ford focus se sedan, the "battery" on the inside of it or mabye its a resistor is super rusty so I'm replacing it. I'll let yall know if it works and I can send you a link to it! If it breaks on me i'll edit my comment too.
How did it go?
I just bought the junk before finding this video LOL....I will try to add a ground wire to it if not will buy an oem one. Thanks for the video!
No problem. Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectDIY2 I installed the module, AC works, fan working as intended but, the hesitation is still there, like when going ful throttle bugs down. In your case did the fan works but, car still ran bad cause of the ground? I will check the ground tomorrow to see if is the cause of the hesitation.
Try unhooking your battery for 10 minutes to let it reset and see if that helps.
@@ProjectDIY2 no luck, I will ground it tomorrow hope it works. Also, its a Mazdaspeed 3 but, parts same as the Focus
Can I ask you a question maybe you can help with? My daughter has a 2015 Focus that keeps overheating. She drives it about 30 minutes and gets the dash warning that the engine is overheated and she should pull over. When she does and turns off the car, it won't start again for about 45 minutes. Then it starts and runs fine. We put a new aftermarket fan and control module on it from partsgeek. Same problem.
Today I was checking the fuses in the engine compartment and when I pulled fuse f32, the fan started running??? The car was off... The keys weren't even in the ignition? I think fuse f32 is for the cam/crank sensors? Any idea why pulling that fuse would cause the fan to come on?
I’m sorry, I’m not sure what would cause that. That is a strange problem.
@@ProjectDIY2 Yeah... It kind of freaked me out when I pulled the fuse and the fan came on 😂
Thanks anyway. I think I'll take it to the garage and see if they can figure it out.
Good luck 👍🏻 thanks for watching!
How did you do the tests on the module and fan? My fan isn’t turning on at all and I’m not sure if it’s this module or the fan motor itself
Turn on the AC which should run the fan ask the time, unhook the module from the fan and check for voltage in the terminals on the output side of the module. If you have voltage there then it’s your fan. If you don’t, then unhook the module from the wiring harness and check for voltage in the harness. If you have voltage there then it’s your module. If you don’t then you’ve got a blown fuse or a wiring issue.
Fantastic information. Thank you.
You’re welcome and thanks for watching!!
Does the fan module cause the fan to act abnormal and rough spin?
No, that's probably the fan itself. Thanks for watching!
Gret video, I would have never figured out the grounding issue.
Thanks for watching!!
Great troubleshooting! Yea these cars with sensors Im working on my GF mom's ford van WTF? im glad all my rides are pre computer I swear these china parts blow. I just dumped a PSD F350 cause of all the damn sensors. loving my IDI F250. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks!
Thanks. My Amazon part comes in today. I will keep this in mind and let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed
Yep, let me know how it goes.
How did it go?

How did it go..??? Mine comes In tomorrow. Wish I saw this video before ordering…

Question. My daughter has a 2012 ford focus and after it’s driven a while the fan is very very loud. It’ll be loud even after car is off for 3-4 mins but now her battery keeps dying, but it will start after being jumped. My husband thinks it’s the relay switch? Please anyone? The fan is sooo loud. Is it something else? Alternator?
I honestly can’t say for sure, but I would guess the fan motor is going bad since it’s loud.
@@ProjectDIY2 thank you
No problem!
Could find OEM anymore. Ordered on off eBay that SAYS OEM, but don't think it is. Like 25 bucks. Hope it works
It should say Bosch on it. That’s the OEM brand.
@@ProjectDIY2 how much was yours???
I don’t remember exactly but it was around $50 to $100
Just canceled my order 🤘🏽 I appreciate it! Oem is the way!
No problem!
Where did you order?
Ebay
Hello on which store you bought the original oem part ? I need one to😊
I bought it off of eBay. Just search for OEM ford focus fan relay and make sure the brand is Bosch.
Thank you . I hope to find one new. Was yours a NEW part ?
Where is the link to the right part!! Disregard I see where you said you got it on EBay. Ordering now.
I bought it from eBay. The link is no good now. You’ll want to search for an OEM fan relay module made by Bosch
@@ProjectDIY2 just about to order one now. I fished the bad one out of the trash and tried grounding it but no luck. Mine was behaving differently though. It was putting out battery voltage until I added the load of the fan. Then it went to 0 volts out. And the fan works normally when hardwired. So I’m running on a direct fused line with a manual switch until the eBay module arrives. This has been a real pain.
i have same module but OEM Bosch, the case measured no continuity between supply ground and case. this problem sounds like inappropriate PCB design resulting in excessive EMI emission. i've seen these Chinese replacement module were totally different compared to original ones. i dont even recall the existance of inductor which exists on the OEM module. that alone will reduce EMI immunity significantly.
Gates made various replacement module but they're quite expensive. they might be a better replacement if you cant get OEM ones
Could be. When I grounded the case that blocked the EMI.
I’m also having this issue and I just did research figuring out what the problem was and stumbled across this video. I work at a ford wholesale parts warehouse and even asking the sales guys they said the only way to get this module that fits my 12 focus is buying the entire fan assembly. I appreciate your video however I did see mixed reviews and for $30 on Amazon I’ll atleast give it a try before spending 350 on the entire fan. Will be sure to update and reference this video as well as your installation video!
I do have a question however, did you have an issue with your fan kicking on and staying on several minutes after turning the car off as well as opening your doors?
Thanks for watching! I did have the issue with the fan staying on or even coming on randomly but I think that may be a body ground issue. As I understand it, the body ground right above the battery gets crusty and you can remove the bolt and clean it and the area around the bolt hole with sandpaper to fix it. Also, you should be able to find a used OEM Bosch fan relay on eBay. Good luck!
Thank you ❤
You’re welcome!
You kept saying the fan. Mine is a 2001 Focus and has 2 fans. I just straight wired my low-speed fan on all the time. Don't really need the high-speed fan.
Awesome, thanks for watching!
Thank you very much.
Thanks for watching!
I just installed probably the exact same module in my wife's car if we have issues ill try grounding it first
Would your transmission overheat when you were idle on the red light or on the stop because my transmission would overheat cause from a red light on the road Or if I was driving slow on the freeway my car would overheat we have the same car
This happens to me and I was just about to replace the part with the Amazon part but I think I'm going to abort mission lol
Will that make my fans not come on in a timely manner and make compressor not come on at times
It can make your cooling fan not work but it shouldn’t affect your compressor
Wow.. cool video great diagnosis.
Thank you!
I don’t know anything about cars but I just bought a used one off eBay for $100 can someone tell me if I overpaid or is it correct price
Just bought a used OEM one that does the same thing bucking not shifting revving then shutting down while driving I really don't want to buy a new one.
Does it say Bosch on it? If not it's not OEM.
@@ProjectDIY2 yes exact same as original I hooked the fan up direct through the fan relay and it worked fine drive fine the only thing left to test is the signal wire from pcm but that’s only 1 volt so I doubt that’s the prob so looks like I’m still in the market for a good fan control module.
@@smille5291 I got mine from Ebay. Hope you find a good one 😉.
My fan will not come on, changed that part and still nothing.
Does your A/C work?
Very helpful one!
Thank you!
What year was this car? I really need help.
2013
change the fan module, it is a bosh brand, now the problem it gives me is that the antifreeze tank boils!
Can’t say for sure, but if you drove it without a fan and it overheated then you’ve probably got a blown head gasket.
@@ProjectDIY2 I think not, because with the air conditioning on it doesn't boil, the problem is that once I turn off the air conditioning the fan turns off and starts to boil... what could it be?
@@alienchannelson.1765 The fan comes on all the time when the AC is on, when the AC is off the fan works off of a temp sensor. That temp sensor could be your problem
Thanks man for the info
No problem!
Only buy parts that are either OEM or a brand name, at least.
I have found too that OEM is usually the way to go. I hope you left them a comment!
Yep...
so i can just order the junk one and put a ground wire on it right?
save a few bucks and still have the car run good
I can hear the frustration in your voice in this.😂
That obvious huh? 😂😂
hi
can you gave the oem link please?
I bought it from eBay and the original listing is no longer valid. Search for "OEM Ford Focus Fan Module" and you should be able to find one.
Hi, I ordered this from Rock Auto gates brand, in case i run into this issue, could you explain how to ground module to car? Thanks
@@danielhuertagonzalez490 I ran a wire from one of the case screws on the fan module to the negative battery post.

Joe this unit takes little power only your Battery and Alternator are at the end of life.
PWM Pulse With Modulation - The motor is driven by the length of the poles means is not a load battery and alternator.
Go by Battery or your old alternator and after start talking, ok
PRO TIP-O-THE DAY,,,,use a good SCAN TOOL before you fire the parts cannon at the problem.
Those Amazon modules are JUNK. Just had one quit in less than a week.
Great diagnosis and thanks for the video. Ford should be sued for this design. That this issue could even exist is insanity.
