Back in the day (I'm 79, so "back in the day" is probably before you were born Mikeybalz), a fellow writing about striped bass fishing used a hydrophone (underwater microphone) to understand if a bucktail jig made any sound when retrieved in water. To his surprise and delite the deer hair made a kind of "swishy staticy" sound when retrieved.
The only hair jig I can get bit on is a shuttlecock. I have tried the TroKar because it is smaller but the fish just won’t bite it. I can bring it over a brush pile and they just crush it!! Awesome video, I’m out exploring ways to catch more on the shuttlecock
Mike that hair jig is called a preacher style so if you know how makes hair that is what you call it I know some of the names because I make some of the hair jigs
I've been a fly tyer since i was 12. Looks like deer hair , but it may have some synthetic hair as well. Us old dogs knew sparse hair was always the ticket. Rebirth of the hairjig made this change timely. Show them something different.
Yes, look up Preacher jig. Looks like a clone the shuttlecock. Plenty of how-to’s on preacher jigs. $13ea is pretty steep. Anybody who ties can make them after seeing the how-to. Black works good in Wisconsin, just a slow even speed and about 2/3 the size of the shuttlecock.
I went to Guntersville for the first time. Stopped at a Shell station with tackle in it. They had 2 pegs full of the 5/8 oz Shuttlecock. I grabbed 1 and liked it. I am looking at some of you past videos to figure out what I did wrong. I had 1 bite the whole time.
Question: After a bass eats a hair jig, does it spend the rest of the day doing that quick spit action trying to get that one hair off that’s stuck on its tongue?
@@mikeybalzz they are a little big but, wen u do hook one u no it’s a keeper. Perfect bait for once u caught 5 and lookn to cull some. I just now seen ur videos about Tim at Hammonds. Really enjoy your videos Mikey. Over the last two years I have really got into fishing offshore here in Florida. I really enjoy the looks I get when everyone zooms past me wondering what the hell I’m doing out in the middle of a lake or river. Lol. Keep up the good work my friend. Videos are always to the point and informative.
Been using hair jigs for 50 years, best at clear water suspended bass. Need to figure out how heavy for the right fall rate. Best on 6 or 8 lb test. Good work Mikey. Sure miss swim suit model girl!
Another great vid. I just started throwing these jigs in the last month. First time out throwing it I nailed a 4#er. I was so excited when I caught the BEAST I put my partner on FaceTime. I love these baits becuase NO ONE else is throwing them!
Jeff Bezos, Snoop Dogg, and world renowned badminton player Dan Lin are boarding a rocket to space. The security at the gate stops Jeff and says "sorry sir no drinks on the rocket" takes the drink and let's him board. Snoop found himself in the same situation for some weed and a lighter. When Dan Lin approached the guard said "sir i don't know what's in your pants, but you must remove all objects from your person before boarding" to which Dan replied "oh, no worries, its just my shuttlecock"
I know where you're at lol. I know this weedline and that hill in the background when you're talking about the jig. Have fished this lake my whole life. I live in this town which I won't name lol. Those trenches on this lake are 🔥🔥🔥 one of these days I'll bump into you on one of the lakes here and we will have to talk fishing. Keep pumping out the vids man. Love em dude. Super informative. Btw supposedly theses a bullshark in this lake. Sounds crazy I know but a guy that guides on this lake has it on video. I've seen the video and multiple pics or I wouldn't have believed it.
Mikey, I completely understand if you have your reasons for not doing what I want to ask. So, with that, would you have any problem with showing us how you came to that specific spot where you caught them? What did the area look like on the graph? How did the fish appear on the graph to tell you to stop there? That kind of thing. Again, all good if you want to keep that part to yourself.

I've used this technique for crappie in summer with a eagle claw red hook into a 1.5 inch pearl white tube bait.the near weightless glide of the bait doesn't spiral down but stays neutral flat as the legs of the tube shimmy softly down much like the shuddle cock!the 90degree line tie swims, swings, glides, and adds action to smaller baits that don't rock or have paddle tails.my favorite line tie whenever I can get away with it.nice info MB! So one shuttlecock ask another shuttllecock if he woke up one morning in the woods butt ass naked laying on his stomach, and there was a jar of Vaseline laying beside him would he tell anyone ? The shuttlecock says well hell no. The other shuttlecock says you want to go camping ? Bahahahaa Get it?
I’m confused on why we’re making jokes about Dr Evil’s rocket. Edit: by the time I clicked the link to tacklewarehouse, it said stock was 10+ at 1032 EST.
Good God these jokes are 💩lol I like hair jigs a lot, because I’m so used to fishing them in saltwater. I’ve actually never tried them for bass! This one looks amazing, it’s super fluffy.
Man- I own every bait made accept hair jigs- not one. Why? Because I very rarely fish shad lakes- everything I fish almost is a natural body of water- in north Alabama. They're not stocked or managed so- no shad. They're mostly bluegill and shiner forage- but crappie, catfish, carp, etc.- its all on the menu. So- should I own some hair jigs? I thought they were just for imitating shad but- now I'm wondering. Edit: Ouch! 13 bucks for a hair jig? And they only come in 5/8ths of an ounce- made for off shore fishing only apparently. I just don't do enough of that kind of fishing to warrant buying a 13 dollar hair jig. They are in stock though- according to TW's site.
@@Weekendairsoftwrrior Yeah I've seen them but- I rarely see anyone using them. I always see ppl using the white ones for shad imitations in deeper water. I guess I should just give them a go and see what happens- probably will. I need one about 1/4 to 3/8ths and in a green pumpkin, bluegill flavor.

Perkins outdoor in Florence probably has them
I had a shuttlecock joke, but my friends didn’t think it was conical.

What's the difference between a badminton birdie and 'Netflix & chill' on a microfiber couch?
One is a shuttlecock, the other's a cuddle shock
What happens when you play badminton with Legos? You get SHUTTLE-COCK BLOCKED!!!! get vid as always!!!

Look!! In the sky!! It's a plane, no it's a bird, no it's one of those shuttlecock rockets🚀!!
Ordered one from TW about an hour ago. They said they had 10+ in stock. We'll see.
Hey what would you recommend for a baitcaster around $100
Shimano SLX. Have several. No issues whatsoever.
@@scotthelton2024 i agree 100% this guy bit.ly/3cdcxts
Hair jigs is always on the deck of the boat
That strand of tinsel is probably the difference, most hir jigs don’t have that flash
I had a dog named Minton who ate my shuttlecock, Bad Minton
Bog we miss you when your not in videos
I ordered 5 of them, even though I tie my own hair jigs.
I tie also , buy one then reverse engineer

When did we start. Calling a common bucktaill a "hair jig"?
when offshore fishing got cool like 10 years ago
To fish these shuttlecocks, do you need a racquet? Asking for a friend. 😜
TW must of got a shipment, says 10+ in stock.
yup about to order me some more 😀
What color shuttlecock does Boggs like?? Anyone he takes from Mikey. Way to go Boggs, glad your back, we missed you

Don't replace the "U" with "I" in the word Shuttlecock.

Why isn't your wife in d boat ? Who will beat that? Mike? Who wins?
Didn’t bezos just launch a shuttlecock ?

My jigs are made of horse hair by Melissa Thomas in Colorado. Hand made! Work great!

There are other companies with hair jigs with more weight and darker colors. Berkeley for example.
