Great video Phil. A very comprehensive review and you’ve said from the outset that these are ‘cheap’ chisels for the home DIYer and for outdoor work - not fine carpentry - which sets the bar and expectations. Thankyou for sharing. I always look forward to your videos.
@@hopgood007 much appreciated 👍🏻 cheers!
There is something very satisfying about shredding paper with a nice sharp chisel. I saw these and thought shall I shan't I. I didn't but I might go back and get a set.
Yea Steve it always surprises me to see a chisel gliding through paper. For a tenner you can't go wrong with these I think. 👍🏻
Hi Phill, Good review on the Parkside chisels, not bad quality for £10. You have done a great job on sharpening them, now razor sharp, you can not beat a sharp chisel. As always a great video, catch you soon Take care
@@shaun30-3-mg9zs Cheers Shaun 👍🏻 they were surprisingly easy to sharpen 👌🏻
I am new on your channel, but I like the tone and the general style, it is a new product, I have the old, wooden sleeves. Same for a small price. I haven't used them yet, I have others, a good brand but not the top of the top. Do not deprive yourself, given the low price.
Welcome! Yes they are a bargain although I do prefer wooden handles on chisels.
They are such good value and it’s always worth having a cheap set of chisels laying around. this Sunday just gone I had to knock some old plaster and render off an wall and I used a very very cheap chisel rather than a mortar chisel. It does such a good job. These would come in handy even for something like that. 👍🏼
I agree Terry!
Very good, I shall be getting some, thanks for the review, liked 👍👍👍👍
No problem 👍
Thanks Phill, great review, I did see these when I was in the store at the weekend, and managed to resist despite the bargain price-tag, kinda wish I'd picked some up now, but I really don't need any more chisels ! It's a shame the grind isn't a little better but the most important thing is the quality of steel and the edge it takes and retains and that seemed quite impressive !
Cheers Andy yea they appear a little rough although they perform quite smoothly. I don't need more chisels either but I just had to get these to see what they were all about!
I never thought to check if the chisel ends are square. thanks for the review .
@@MoranGuyVideos yea if their not square then when you go to sharpen then they can go out of square even more so I check first then compensate by adding more pressure to one side or the other.
Phil, I have not watched the video all the way through. But I was in Italy last year and bought a set of Parkside chisels. Different to the ones you are reviewing, but I only paid 18 Euro for four. They sharpened nicely with an original Eclipse honing guide.
Like the ones you are reviewing, they take a bit more time to get into shape, but are very good once you get them in condition. The steel is hard enough to hold its edge, and soft enough to sharpen relatively quickly.
As pointed out elsewhere: for the average DIY dude, they will be more than adequate.
And, as you say, for a tenner: What's not to like?
Yes I agree 👍🏻
Good review! I noticed that the blade ends of the handles have flats set octagonally (or possibly hexagonally) around them to stop the chisels rolling off a bench top, for instance.
Cheers Pete! Oh yea they do. It does actually stop them rolling your rite.
As the adage goes, you get what you pay for, but with lidle hand tools id say you get a bit extra. I have to say though i prefer the wooden handle chisels they used to sell, they were good steel and a good steel to boot, nice review thanks
Cheers! Yes I agree with you.
Nice set of chisels a grade better than buying a chisels set from the pound shop , the 3 smaller size chisels are for cutting down into wood for a joint socket and have a slight slighted edge to help going downwards and the two bigger straight edge chisels are for straight edge cleaning cleaning out on a socket joint , absolutely right for only soft or medium wood like yellow pine wood , no heavy hammering work for these chisels, well done to Lidl for keeping the price down and helping the budget family man £9.99 good stuff .
Phill
Possibly the best tool bargain of 2025?
I think all these cheap chistles are made in the same Chinese factory. I brought the ones from home bargains and have to say they are plenty good enough for DIY work.
Possibly.
I was told that its Bosch that makes the tools for Parkside, anyone know if thats true, i havent looked into it yet.
Not sure about that. I think Einhell make some of their power tools though.
"slightly out" because the quality control doesn't exist, never ever, and that's why you happy dog paing £9.99 or it's just a free Lidl gift to the naive paserbyer..??
@@tadpanasiewicz8077 I don't expect much for £10 but they all worked well.
For goodness sake. The grindstone test is the quickest. Yellow sparks means soft metal that wont hold an edge. White sparks means there is a chance the chisels could be useful.
Thanks for the info.
