These types of kits don't excite me, but I like to watch your videos because 1. I learn neat tricks I can apply to the kits I do build and 2. it's always a good time. Thanks, Chris, for posting and I can't wait for the next one!
This is on my list, I'm happy to have it back for 2 reasons, 1 I want to build it and 2 we finally have chassis and engine parts to restore johan and amt toronados and elerados
I missed this kit the first time around when it came out around 1969, and ordered one from my local hobby shop the moment Round 2 announced it. I think the swooping fenders and boat-like tail give it a fun, "Neo Classical" look; a bit like the the early 1970's Buick Riviera Boattail. (Though I'll probably delete the spoiler in my build.) As an aside, I wish that Round 2 would actually come out with a 1971 - 1973 Buick Riviera, and/or if they could get their hands on the tooling for the old Renwal Revival Series by Virgil Exner of 1966 takes on classic automobiles. But until then, I'll try my hand at this model. It looks like it assembles nicely! Thanks for posting this!
@@27Fan4Ever The more I think about it, I suspect that Atlantis may have those toolings, though something like that would also be right up Round 2's alley. That said, I hope they do it, soon. I'm not getting any younger . . . . As an aside, the Renwal Revival "1966 Pierce Arrow" kit is being featured as a running project in the latest issues of "Model Cars Magazine." This was a 'glue bomb,' but it's not only being restored, but super detailed. Hopefully, the interest it's generating will nudge Atlantis or Round 2 in the right direction.
Found this kit at my hobby store and instantly wanted it for a Death Race 2000 build. Had to look it up first and see how the kit looks and builds. I have been watching your vids with every kit I intend to buy. Love your work!!! Keep it going!!!!
Ha! The first time you said “front wheel drive v8” I thought you either misspoke or had no idea what you were talking about. Then you showed us the front wheel drive v8… That surprised me, was NOT expecting that!! I’m new here, and so far have been impressed!! Great channel, I love it!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE NEW MUSIC DURING THE PAINT BOOTH TIME.... WELL DONE with the model, I wasn't really feeling this one but like always you brought me to really enjoying the kit. Great job as always brother Thank you for sharing and please keep em coming. Everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy and remember to SMILE it's a HOBBY and it's SUPPOSE TO BE FUN
I can see that. In fact, just look at the custom "Neo Classic" cars like the Stutz Blackhawk (designed by Virgil Exner) that was based on the early '70's Pontiac Grand Prix, or the Zimmer Golden Spirit. But a better example of a model car that people thought we'd be driving in the 21st Century would be the AMTronic. That car makes a Tesla look like a Model T . . . .
Well done, you really done full justice to that kit, its nice to see metallic spray round the spray booth too, i need to get busy and finish my amt john deere 4430 finished
Everything with the model looks great. Like you, I was shaking my head a little in the beginning of the video, but the kit and your build of it won me over. Keep the great kit reviews/builds coming. I, like many others, love what you are doing. Thanks for sharing.
What a great kit 👌 amazing Chris 👏 🙀 so enjoy your videos 📹 😀 please keep them coming 🙏 😊 and here to help get your videos 📹 😉 out to everyone to enjoy 😉 😀
Interesting watching you place parts on and then brush glue .. My old school ways sees that as different and tough to want to try.. I use model glue in the tube exclusively for in the 60's as a kid, thats all we had.!
Happened upon your channel because of your OST Enterprise bridge. That was INCREDIBLE and your concept car is FANTASTIC!!! I'll check out more. Ever thought about doing the Flying Sub from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea?
That is one sweet looking kit there Chris love the color you know that car almost makes me think of something George Barris might have created in his Hay Day 👍👍
1st ...Your imitation of Arnold is PERFECTO!👏👏👏.......i am defiantly going to get kit and make it in to a pimp mobile ......''Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac Gangsta whitewalls, TV antennas in the back You may not have a car at all But remember brothers and sisters You can still stand tall Just be thankful, for what you've got Diamond in the back, sunroof top, diggin' the scene with a gangsta lean''........... A lot of people don't realize that Oldsmobile had a front wheel drive car, not before anyone else, but one the first production front wheel drive car. But I might have missed someone. Nice car!
THAT'S A AWESOME Car Kit..Sadly Our Local Hobby Store is Closing UP.. After 40 yrs...😔😔😪...And with Covid Destroying the Business in modeling....It Didn't make sense to keep it RUNNING...And supply lines crunched..Yup..
I so love your attitude :-) Nice "Arnold" impersonation too I also hafta say. This car is just plain weird, but then again so is California in general. Yep I'm an east coaster. lol Just kidding y'all. To each his or her own I always say. Use styrene glue when you can build without paint. It's going to be stronger than anything else. Use CA glue when you're gluing painted parts to painted parts including chrome parts.. I use Gorilla Super glue gel for such things and man that stuff really holds. Oh well for what it's worth, I'm no expert. Nice work HPI guy, as always.
You did a good job with what you had. However, in the past, you have mentioned elements that tend to look "toyish". That front steel axle is something that would have to be replaced. I am always a stickler for under carriage design and detail and that steel axle sticks out like a sore thumb. I guess a remedy for that - would be to find a drive shaft from the parts box and fabricate a more accurate trans-axle. Every thing else turned out pretty well.
Oh my goodness nice yes Finley oh my I have got to get this kit now absolutely a must nice thank goodness they finally came out with it now good I want it I think the motor is a Oldsmobile 425 or a 430 maybe I think I know in 69 there was the Oldsmobile 455 though to
Great review and awesome build thanks.this is probably the only kit made that I have passed on over the years.will be buying it for the beautiful 455 and chassis only.peace
So I live in an apartment and I was curious what is the best way to go about painting the body and stuff ? Could I use a brush? And new to the channel!
Nice custom kit. Sadly, from what someone told me, they destroyed the stock Toronado kit to make that one back in the day, so unless the guys at Round2 remake the whole thing, we can't have a stock Toronado.
If I get this kit, I’ll have to leave a comment here telling you how I built it. I have a couple ideas on how I’d build one. Just not sure if I want to get this kit.
Found your channel a couple weeks ago and I love sitting back and watching you build models for hours, you definitely make it easy with all these videos lol. I've built 5 Gundam model kits in the past but have never dabbled in the vehicle scale models, they definitely pique my interest more than the Gunplas do, I found a random cheap jetliner kit at a local store that I've been learning to paint on, I was wondering if you had any recommendations for kits I should try out once I finish this one I'm working on, I really enjoy watching you build the semi-trucks but those all look wayyyy too advanced for me at the moment, just some simple beginner kits I can practice on, thanks.
I always say if you think the kit looks cool, just buy it and have fun building it. So check around and find stuff you like the box art of and give it a go. Atlantis Toy and Hobby reissues a LOT of older kits, jets, airliners and ships, etc so if you want another plane they are a great option for simpler vintage kits.
So I see it again, after several car and truck builds under my belt.... Why is there nothing, no bracket or anything holding the alternator in place? So many car models just leave it suspended in open air. Just curious. Kind of bugs me. I've watched videos of guys going through the bother of wiring up the distributor and spark plugs but there the alternator hangs out in the middle of space for some reason. I don't get it dee dee.... I mean before I'd go so far as to run spark plug wires I would think I'd build something resembling how the alternator is actually held in place. But I guess that's just me. Don't make no sense.
From the side it's 1973 Chevy Monte Carlo the tail lights are definitely 1968 Pontiac Catalina the grill is Pontiac firebird but chrome plated Cool car but the spoiler spoils it
Thanks for the build video ! This car was designed originally by Harry Bentley Bradley . The original issue kit box has his name in print underneath the " Californian " . An early "pimp mobile!" Certainly something very different, would be nice to see it next to a standard Toronado to really see the amount of work that went into this custom car.
I love old kits, but that's one ugly duckling. Well built and cool parts. Reminds me of the Pimp car from the Clint Eastwood movie "Magnum Force". Push the limits, why not.

Check the spruces for a fold-down center armrest for the center of the front bench seat. Same interior used on the MANNIX roadster Toronado kit.

I remember building this years ago. Looks like I'm going to want to do it again
That funny looking grille insert is a leftover from the MPC '68 Toronado kit on which this kit is based.

For sure!
When I saw this kit on your preview video, I thought I would never want to build it. Now I'm excited to get one. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks man!
That is such a cool custom. Your attention to detail is some of the best I’ve seen. 👍🏻
My brother built this in early 1970's. I think I have it in a box in the basement, from when I cleaned our parents attic.

Thanks, you too!
That was one funky car for sure Chris! Very neat too! Excellent work as always on your Toronado concept build!

Wow. That was a fun build to watch.

So I live in an apartment and I was curious what is the best way to go about painting the body and stuff ? Could I use a brush? And new to the channel!
Thanks for the video, I want to buy this same kit to build.
Go for it!
The only reason I grabbed one was to rebuild an old Toranado glue bomb. The rest will go in the parts box
Love it🤯
Thank you!
Nice job as usual Chris, great paint job 👍
Ridiculous car, the kit was sale-proof when it was new. Somehow you make it look decent. THAT’s talent as a modeler. Kudos!
