  • "Shiny Stockings" uploaded as a request from the 2002 Proms performance titled " Swing" by Wynton Marsalis and his Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. This marked Marsalis's second of three Proms appearances following his special midnight matinee in 1993 and preceeding his "Out here to Swing" Prom 2004.

    That whole phrase at 1:25 digs into some emotions and memories for me. I don’t know what they are but I can feel it.

    His solo has such a classic sound on this. It's real hip, too.

    loved the ensemble dynamics at the end, didn't like changing the rythmn near the very end to quarter triplets from Frank's original "and four and." Awesome, amazing, overall performance.

    Gran revisión de la versión eterna de la Count Basie Big Band, aunque peor, más ortodoxa en los arreglos y en todo.

  • @musicmanson
    @musicmanson 15 лет назад

    This is the original arrangement, I believe, because the jazz ensemble I am in did the same arrangement.

  • @musicmanson
    @musicmanson 15 лет назад

    Yeah. In the chart it has the "and four and" rhythm written, but above it, it says to lay back.

    Great music and great band but why doesn't the BBC broadcast TV jazz performances from the proms, this year it was a tribute to Stan Kenton, would love to have seen it.

    what happened to the lead player? sounds like he's shoved really far down on the mix...

    This chart is sexy!

    No - Nestico has fp crescs at the end of phrases in the main theme rather than falls.

      imo this sounds better but nestico was really good too

    Who's playing lead trumpet on this?? Is it Ryan Kisor or Marcus Printup??

  • @trane1959

    ohh, it's the original Frank Foster chart, I just didn't like the liberties they took with it. Overall, totally sick though.

      IT'S JAZZ ASSHOLE!!! THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE LIBERTIES...IT'S NOT THE SYMPHONY!!

    • @jazzbonept
      @jazzbonept 2 года назад

      Symphonies takes liberties too, just more with interpretation rather than notes. At one point, I listened to this on repeat over a hundred times. Mmm🎶
