Love the attitude! Whole house doesn’t need to be super clean all the time or even most the time. Vacuum frequently if you have kids and pets (this I try to do daily as both of us have asthma and we have a dog) and clean as you see it. I clean my sink & tub with baking soda & simple green and a sink brush. The toilet same but with toilet brush. Simple green also works on floors and walls. It doesn’t have harsh chemicals like formula 409 that make me cough (asthma) and if I want smell goods I use the Boulder disinfectant cleaner that smells like rosemary. Right now I’m also working on using up a bunch of cleaners that were left in the house we bought a bit over a year ago. Too frugal to throw away.

Dishwasher pods don't work because they skip the prewash step. Try a powder detergent. Fill the wash and the prewash, run the hot water in the sink and start the dishwasher. Ideally, put your dishwasher on the hottest settings (hi-temp/pots and pans). That should get your dishwasher working just fine. Technology Connections has a couple videos about dishwasher detergent.

FYI: There are no harmful chemicals in Magic Erasers. They are just melamine foam that is slightly harder than the gunk you want to remove without being abrasive enough to damage the surface you're trying to clean. It doesn't release any chemicals, it just wears away from use due to friction.

You can make your own dawn power wash so you don’t have to keep buying it. The exact formula you can get on line. My cleaning motto is, "Clean more often, clean less hard." And it's true! I know routines don't sound like fun but once you develop them, it's easier in the long run. It works for frugality too because you don't have to spend more money buying special cleaners because nothing really stays stuck on et cetera. Has anyone else found this out? I do realize not everyone loves routines and cleaning and there should not be shame in that of course! If I didn't love cleaning so much then maybe I'd actually get the painting done like you do so well, Dawn!! Speaking of painting, do you all use a special edger between the ceiling and the wall or just regular painter's tape and a brush? I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to buy a gadget and painting is not our expertise ;)

@Juliab Yes yes yes, this! I actually don't love to clean, I love to have cleaned. And that's why I am doing myself a favour and do it regularly so it doesn't become a big hassle.
I use dish soap, vinegar, soda and glass cleaner to clean every single thing and spot in our home. On top of that I use a natural scrub once or twice a year when I do a deep clean when the seasons change. There is really no need to have a huge amount of specialized cleaners. I treated myself to some nice cleaning cloths I like to use, but I aso use old cut up shirts.
Perhaps one day I will reach a point where I love cleaning like you do 😆Not all hope is lost.

I deep clean 15 minutes a day 5 days a week. This includes decluttering. Everything in my house is decluttered and deep cleaned once every two months ish. I have an index card for every room in my house. I list all the things that need to be done starting from the ceiling working down towards the floor. Every day (Mon -Fri) I take an index card spend 15 minutes cleaning whatever I have listed on the card. When the 15 min is done I stop and the next day I continue working for 15 min . When one index card is completex I put it on the bottom of the stack and continue with the next card. It doesn't take long because as you said the more frequent you clean the easier it is. Also the more I clean the more I have decluttered and the fasted hou can clean. I really don't mind cleaning now.

@@juliedewyse8436 That is so type A and I LOVE it! 😂
I might be stealing this concept for when we have a bigger home. Right now I do a very thorough clean each week in one room. It comes on top of the usual chores and usually only takes an extra 20-30 minutes, the rooms are rather small. My definition of deep cleaning aka spring cleaning (I usually do a second "spring cleaning" in autumn) is to fully empty all cabinets and closets, wipe them down (using the scrub for the kitchen cabinets) and get everything in there clean by wiping it down, washing it or running it through the dishwasher. I wouldn't want to do this every two months. But the 15 minutes deep clean a day sounds very family friendly, if you are a person who thrives with routines.
Do you complete your regular chores, like cleaning the bathroom, on the weekend?

I never put it in the dishwasher since it degrades it faster, but I wash it with hot water and soap after every use and set aside to dry. For cleaning the oven (and the baking trays in oeticular) I reacommend the "Prowin" ovencleaner. It literaly just whipes off. Like a miracle and like a commercial. It is amazing. I noticed you do not war gloves while cleaning - I do not either, BUT you have to, if you decide to give it a try. Otherwise it will remove your skin as well. So it is probably not good for you, but it works so great. I hate cleaning the oven (and trays), but it makes a huge difference. I just cover the tray in a thin layer cleaner (just wipe it on), then i put at trashbag (or foil) over it and let it sit over night (i do it in the evening) and the next morning I can just wipe it off. NO scrubbing whatsoever, even the burnt in stuff. But do remember the gloves. Itried the pink stuff and even though it smells nice I have to scrub WAY too much. So had to share. I have a selfcleaning oven now, but the trays I still have to clean by hand and is such a huge help. Can't recommend it enough. It sounds like a pain, but it realy is not and it is so satisfying, when it justwipes offlike in a commercial. Sorry for the long text. Thanks for the great video.

Awesome video!! Thanks for trying the baking soda with the Bronners-at least we know 😊. I used the Washing Soda on a good pot that I had used as a simmer pot around Christmas, smelled great until…. I forgot about it, all the water boiled out and left me with a burnt mess 😬😫. I made a paste with the Washing Soda and water, let the pot soak!! I was shocked at how it cleaned it-my husband thought for sure after trying just about everything else the pot was ruined. You’d never know I had burned anything in it!!! 😀

I like using spray bottles from the dollar tree. I actually have the same kitchen countertop as you, Dawn. I use a little Dawn dish detergent in fone bottle and fill it up with water. That is also my all-purpose cleaner. Then I love the brown bottles of Lysol concentrate. We use 2 cap fulls
in another spray bottle to disinfect the countertop or sink after raw meat. I use baking soda to scrub stove glass top for deep clean. But normally, on the stove top, use Dawn spray, followed by 50/50 vinegar/water spray bottle. The best to clean glass stove top is a 4" razor scrapper from window cleaning supply company like J.R. Racenstein. Also, blue surgical rags by the pound make the best cleaning rags and dish drying cloths. No lint. We are professional window cleaners 35+ years, and these supplies are an added bonus of our business that have found their way into our home's regular routine.

Great video! I also wanted to say thank you for introducing me to KC Davis’ Book How to Keep House While Drowning! I wish I would have had this book as a young mom who struggled to do all the things and felt bad because I couldn’t. Thank you! 😊

The Dawn spray can be refilled with regular Dawn dish soap and water to create the spray soap but much cheaper.

Are you cleaning the filter in your dishwasher? That can make a big difference in how well your dishwasher works. 😊
