Cleaning under and/or behind your refrigerator is essential to keep it working properly…especially where the vents and coils are!!! You can literally extend the life of your appliances by years, simply keeping the ventilation areas clear of dust and debris.

Have you tried Branch Basics dishwasher tablets? My mom and I have both had really good results with them, so might be worth trying if you want a natural one that might work better than Molly's Suds. Might depend on the type of water (city vs. well), and possibly the kind of dishwasher, but if you want to try another natural one, I would highly suggest that one.

Yes and it's also a fire hazard for the dust to build up around the refrigerator coils or the motor so it's important to keep it dust free.

One trick I learned with laundry stains is to spray the backside of the stain first and then spray the stain itself. I dunno if this will help anyone else. I just thought i would mention it. A lot of good tips and thank you for testing these out Dawn. 😊

Also using a brush to clean the stain and work it into the fibers cannot be understated. We have a 2 year old who loves oranges and we would wash and stain treat her stuff a dozen times to get something out. I started using a scrub brush and it worked instantly.

My mom showed me that a overnight, very submerged pre-soak in a good laundry detergent or oxiclean does wonders. Red clay stains from hiking didn't stand a chance. I do miss the enzymatic stick treatments for anything organic but they were prob bad for the environment.

I love my silicone broom! I do have a dog that's in the house more than she's outside, so it is fabulous for grabbing the dog hair but not sticking to it like it does the fibers of a regular broom. I almost never use my regular broom anymore. I am also a fan of the scrub mommy sponges. They have the soft side for more delicate dishes and the more abraisive side for scrubbing. Re that angry momma thing. I saw this for the first time about eight years ago. I hated them then and I still hate them now. How stupid to buy a single purpose product like that when a bowl of water and vinegar would do the same job. There is so much unnecessary plastic crap being manufactured on this planet and these angry mommas are for me symbolic of this.
I wonder how many angry mommas are pushed into the back of cupboards and never used. Dawn I’m glad you came to the conclusion that a coffee cup of vinegar and water would do the same job.

I just prefer the flexible fabric of cloths. I just use cotton washcloths & cut up old towels & cut up old flannel blankets for kitchen cleaning. I use cut up tshirts for napkins. Sooo much more effective at cleaning bbq sauce from fingers & even wipe the table down afterwards!

I have used swedish dishclothes for many years and the lighter colored dishcloths do stain eventually, I soak them in a sink full of water with a laundry stain remover with borax or bleach for 30 minutes or more. These are very durable and last for months. When they are just slightly damp they work as you would use a paper towel. They don't get sour smelling like regular dishcloths

I never use bleach or chlorine in my home it's something my mom never used and I never use it either. I wash my dishcloths in the washingmachine in atleast 60°C (about 140° F) it's your Hot cycle I think. Only detergent, no softener or bleach. It destroys the cloth. The hot water combine with the just right amount of detergent makes the cloth clean and bacteria free. It will last montessori and months. Hangdry is to prefer to keep the absorption capacity.

I personally love the soap pump extension. I have one that I installed when I redid my kitchen back in 2021 and game changer. I needed to decide if I wanted a pump drilled into the counter and I didn’t want to have to change out the soap all the time. Then I found out about this and WOW. I buy one really big bottle and only have to change it once per year. I liked it so much I ended up buying one as a gift for my Mom. She never used her soap dispenser because she disliked filling the soap. Protip: those extra caps they give you for all of the possible options, you can put on the plastic tube under the sink so you don’t have to store them. I love when you don’t have to store extra parts. Then when I need to change out the soap, I have everything I need in one spot (to be honest, I end up usually buying the same thing the next year so it is like 2 seconds to change out the bottle.

DAWN!!! I have been wanting to contact you. I have been a simple living/minimalist for 35 years. I am 68!
What is sorely needed is ideas for keeping the house clean for Seniors! We are a big group of mostly Baby Boomers❤Also,at our age we are contending with health and mobility issues that we never thought we would experience.
I am an avid watcher of you and other women into the minimalist lifestyle but many of us cannot do some of the deep cleaning or organization of changing old habits.
How refreshing it would be to see someone over 65, dealing with living alone, or having medical/handicap issues. We get so tired and so 😅easily that some of the suggestions are not available for us. We have no handy husband or even enough money to spend on a handyman to even put up a shelf. Families are often too far away, too busy, or just not able to be available.

I bought the best vacuum robot I could get and let it run. New furniture has to go down to the floor or it has to have high legs for the robot, nothing inbetween. I have enough dishes to fill the dishwasher slowly and I put all the pans and pots in it. In my new kitchen I have a very broad sink for the huge baking trays. The countertop is made of good plastic, easy to clean and no liquid can make stains. Since retirement I don't iron anymore. I miss silk and cashmere, but I am not willing to maintain it.

However I don't think there are as good as microfiber at cleaning countertops or stovetop. They don't wring out as dry as the microfiber. What I have enjoyed and found more useful than I thought I would, are the flannel cloths that are sold as reusable paper towels. I mainly use paper towels to drain grease so I don't use the flannels for that. But for other small odd jobs I really like them.

I love the Swedish dish cloths!!! I have had mine for over 7 years (that's right, literally the exact same dish cloths for 7 years) and they are still going strong! I wash mine in the washing machine and hang them to dry. I love them for wiping off counters and the table. Other dish cloths seem to smear crumbs around but the Swedish dish cloths pick stuff up amazingly and require less elbow grease! I discovered them over 20 years ago when I lived in Sweden for a year (I am Swedish, but born and raised in Canada). Everyone used them in Sweden and they worked so well. When we did a trip to Sweden 7 years ago, I told my husband we had to buy some because they were the best thing ever and I had not seen them anywhere else other than in Sweden. But the last couple of years I have seen them popping up for sale in stores here in North America, which made me so excited for other people to be able to use such a great product. Hopefully the ones sold here in North America are of the same quality as the ones I bought in Sweden. In Sweden I bought one pack from ICA (a common Swedish supermarket) and a cheaper pack from IKEA. The IKEA Swedish dish cloths are definitely cheap quality: thinner, have a lot of pilling now and have not held up like the slightly thicker ones from ICA, which have no pilling (and this is after having used them the same amount of time). In fact, I've probably used my ICA ones even more because they are simply better quality and the IKEA ones I'll use only if all the other good ones are in the wash. Lol, idk if IKEA sells Swedish dish cloths here in North America, but if they do, I would not buy them from there if I were you.

There are several dollar tree items that work in place of a couple of those items. 1. They have a great rubber Broom attachment that goes on the stick they sell for multiple attachments. 2 another attachment they have is a white fuzzy attachment that cleans ceiling fans. It can also be washed. Tested both of these, and they work amazing. I paid $3.75 for all 3 pieces and I am very happy with them. We do have pets so it works on pet hair.

I had to come back here - I bought 3 items becuz of this very video! The broombi (I also got the handheld w/dust pan), the Swedish dish cloths and the fan duster. OMGoodness..........game changers in my house! First the broombi is the BEST broom ive ever used in my life...........I have been sweeping up so much dog hair I can't believe it. I even sweep up my rug and it's mind blowing what you can sweep off a rug with this thing. I love the clean up, and also that I can hang it on the side of my fridge.....this is soooooo much better than traditional brooms. The handheld is just as awesome, especially for clearing the countertops, then you can spray and wipe them down. Matter of fact, when I cleared my kitchen countertop I could easily see in the white dustpan what I got (I thought was spices) and what I found is dead ant bodies (they showed up one morning after having cleaned the night before) - so needless to say this helped me discover an ant problem in my kitchen! Second, the Swedish dish cloths.......AWESOME! I decided to replace all my existing dish cloths with this one pack I ordered - they work that good. Third is the fan duster........I got this because the ceilings in our bedrooms are so high, I'd have to move the beds and get on a ladder to clean the ceiling fans......well this worked perfectly and did not pull dust down on the beds!!!! Can't thank Dawn enough for her review of these items!!!

I do have to say that flat tool is amazing for cleaning under fridges, on top of built in fridges, and under stoves as well as the back of fridges if you don’t want to move it out. Personally i can’t see it working very well for fan blades. One of my go to dusters is the long swiffer duster. It extends to 6 feet and I purchased the reusable/washable duster heads. Love your channel!❤

I just happened upon your channel when I was watching my ROKU the other night. I like what you are talking about. I am a non-motivated woman when it comes to cleaning and I dread it every time I think about it. I will turn 70 in two days and cleaning just isn't my thing. I live alone with my two shedding dogs and of course the hair is always a problem but I love my dogs so I deal with the hair.
I saw the paddle fan duster mop and decided to get one from Amazon. It arrived today and I cleaned all the fans except the one in my paint room. I am very impressed with this thing!!!
I thought for sure the dust was going to rain all over me but it didn't. After cleaning two fans I took the mop outside and gave it several good shakes then cleaned the other fans. Amazing. All these years I have gotten up on a sturdy step stool and cleaned the blades with a damp cloth and I hated this chore so much. Today I didn't need the step stool because of course the mop has the pole and reaches fine. I am very happy with this cleaning tool.
I've taken your advise on using certain products too. It isn't as if I don't have any cleaning products but I was just not happy with them. I do use baking soda and vinegar often but I wanted something with more power. Today in the grocery store I purchased a bottle of foam cleaner (Lysol) for the two bathrooms I have and I'm going to see if it cleans the shower. The shower in this house is made of fiberglass I think and this particular bathroom was added to the office that was added to this house. The house was built in 1950.
The water here has rust/clay in it so it leaves a rusty looking residue on the shower stall. I live in the northern part of S.C. and there is lots of clay here.
I used the Lysol spray on my baseboards today to see how clean it would get them and they got really clean. The spray smells really nice. I know you didn't mention Lysol spray in your video but I saw it in the Food Lion and liked that it kills germs.
I don't understand how you can happily do these cleaning videos but I'm glad you do. I would rather take a beating than clean house. Lol. I keep my kitchen clean, the bathrooms clean and change my sheets, etc. but I hate to 'deep' clean, dust and vacuum. It hurts my back and makes me sweaty. I would rather be working on a painting.
Anyway, thank you for sharing your advise. It's most appreciated by me. Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Dawn @TheMinimalMom , I saw a couple things that I wanted to comment on. The very first time I ever saw you talk about Molly Suds I was curious because I have been looking for something with out the big jugs and something more natural. I looked on Amazon at Molly suds, and was kind of appalled at the price. I looked at the ingredients and then I made my own. I used 1 1/2 cups each of baking soda and of washing soda, a 1/2 cup of Epsom salts and a 1/4 cup of sea salt and then 20 to 30 drops of essential oils (not lemon). It seems really strong when you're mixing it up because of the essential oils but you only use one tablespoon per load So it's not going to smell that strong at all on your clothes. Mine stay nice and fresh even in my closet afterwards. So essentially for about 10 to $12 worth of ingredients I have a year's worth of laundry soap. I love it and it's been working so well that I shared the recipe with my daughter and she loves it. I also shared it with several friends who also made it and liked it so well they shared it with their other friends. So I just wanted to mention it to you because it's certainly way more economical than Molly Suds. I have it labeled as Molly's Suds copycat
On another note when you were talking about your mom's glass top stove, my daughter's stove looked just like that and it had been like that for years. I sprayed it with a little bit of water and then I put baking soda on it and let it sit for just a couple minutes and then using one of those green Scotch-Brite scrubby things I got it off in minutes. And it looked like new. I watched that on somebody else's RUclips video, maybe Do It On A Dime or something, and I tried it and I was so impressed because it's so simple and everyday ingredients. Thanks so much for all you do, I enjoy all your videos.

Thank you for posting your homemade recipe. Do you have a he front load washer or top load? If it is he, do you put it in the drum itself or in the dispenser? I haven’t used powder in our he and wondering how well it dissolves since there isn’t much water.

    • @kkoeshall9136
      @kkoeshall9136 9 месяцев назад +8

@@rachelperkins9964 I do not have an HE washer, mine is probably older in his top load and I just start the water running and throw in the tablespoon of powder and then start loading my clothes right away. I think the key is that you don't want to use more than that tablespoon unless you're washing like a whole big load of really really dirty clothes like from a husband that works construction or something you know? I tried making something similar to this years ago and I thought there's no way one tablespoon will get everything clean so I did two and my coloreds faded a little bit. So I threw it all away. Dumb move but I learned, so now I stick to my one tablespoon for a load and it works! I hope you try it. *** I might add, I order a bottle of essential oil from Eden's Garden called "Cleaning" and I use that as my essential oil in my laundry detergent. And also, I put some in a small spray bottle with filtered water and like a teaspoon of rubbing alcohol or witch hazel for a room spray and it smells amazing.

I bought some Swedish dishcloths in December. from Temu. I decided to see just how far one would go...three months in and it still looks pretty new. I'm sold.
Oven cleaner and plastic wrap! You do have to leave it on for some time but it works wonders...especially in a grubby oven. Sometimes gentle products just don't get the job done and that's okay. I just use the stronger stuff judiciously. True story....my uncle in the 70s and 80s used to paint logos and names on signs and trucks. He was a terrible speller and would use oven cleaner on the truck doors to clean up his misspellings. (at your own risk of course lol)
I have a couple of scrubs that come in tubs...meh. I think I prefer Softscrub Oxi. Its hard to find and I just order it in bulk from Walmart...ships to door. ..smells nice.
I tried the silicone toilet brush too....another meh. But let's face it! You just have to have some pink stuff toilet bowl fizzy once in a while....makes me laugh every time.
I've added one more thing to the apron. I saw a video from a older gal (science professor type) that swore by steramine as a disinfectant. It comes in tablets...its cheap....no noxious odor. Two tablets in a gallon of water and use your own sprayer. With 150 in a bottle for $10, at 60 I've got enough for two lifetimes! I've done the vinegar thing but sometimes you just need something a little more.
    Great video!

actually, some older dryers have a panel under the dryer door that just pops open by inseerting a butter knife or screwdriver. My whirlpool is made like that and it is so handy. I wish everyone knew that they need to be cleaning out the inside of the dryer regularly to prevent fires, just as well as cleaning out the dryer hose and the vent leading out of the house. I just wish the dryer manufacturers were more concerned about safety and yes, made the dryer inside easily accessed, and also, if they could make it to where all that lint couldnt get down into all those crevices. lol

And when stuff is stuck on, I use the cream that you squeeze on and their red scrub pad. If you let it sit for a couple minutes, everything comes off easily. I used to have a glass top stove and also had crusty rings. When a service man came out, he just used a razor blade and elbow grease to get rid of the marks. Then polished it up with the cleaner. Also, I saw a video of a person who cleaned very dirty glass top stoves with oven cleaner, Saran Wrap, left it on all day and was able to clean it up like new.

I invested in some microfiber cloths for bathroom cleaning per your recommendation. I could never get them to stop pilling all over and they weren't good for getting wet dust and hair up.
I switched to the cheapest swedish cloths I could find and I love them. I wash them in the clothes washer in delicates bag after basically every use. Yes, they start to disintegrate. When they do that, I put them in our place for crappy rags... These are the rags you use for cleaning the car or outside projects. I have gotten a TON of use out of them, saving rolls of paper towels, and also keeping my sanity because they're so easy to clean with.

Even though I love to watch you demo all these products and I am so tempted by them in store, I stick with a spray bottle with water and a little dish soap for pretty much everything, including glass and toilets (we have soft water so we don't get rust). I have another spray bottle with water and a little bit of vinegar if the glass streaks (it doesn't usually). I use baking soda as a scrub. I have been using the Swedish dishcloths for the past several years. As long as you rinse them out and hang it over your faucet or sink, it dries just fine. It may stop lying perfectly flat, if that’s important to you. It doesn’t get smelly or snaggy and you can throw it in the washer when needed and then let them air dry. I also use the Norwex window cleaning cloths for all my windows, mirrors, stainless steel appliances like refrigerators. You only use water. They don’t streak or leave any residue. Throw them in the washer and I let them hang dry. I won’t use anything else for all these things. They are a bit pricey, but I saw some other brands now on Amazon that didn’t exist even a couple years ago. But getting rid of glass cleaner is a big savings over time, plus the chemicals and fumes are gone. They last for a very long time too! I use only Dawn platinum for my dishes and Blueland for my kitchen and bathroom. I think the discs/wafers end up being very reasonable and I’m not collecting more plastic spray bottles and they take up less space.

@@juliea.7142 That happens to me for 2 different reasons- 1) I have concrete floors in the basement and it always drags just because of the floor texture, 2) if the floor is smooth I have to make sure all the stringy bits are spread out on the floor (just give it a shake after you wring it out) and that the top of the triangle was facing away from me. I am trying to eliminate as many chemicals as I can in my cleaning products. I’ve found that baking sofa and vinegar work well in most of my cleaning. I sometimes mix borax for stubborn stains or messes! I haven’t tried the “ pink stuff”, I’ll check it out to see all ingredients! Thanks you are a good cleaner.

Love that you are so real! Admitting that you hadn't turned the blade around while trying to clean the stove top, made me laugh! We've all done something like that. Showing your dirt under the fridge was the best. I am definitely buying that tool. I have been watching Midwest Magic Cleaning, who helps and cleans hoarder's homes. He enters some of those homes and actually has used oven cleaner not only on the stove tops but on counter tops and toilet bowls as well. He lets them sit a long time and there hasn't been damage.

I have never used the Swedish dishcloths, but I am going to try them. If they get gross or stained or unusable, they would be great in the bottom of a pot or planter because they would hold moisture in. I use cardboard in my planters now. It holds in moisture and eventually breaks down.

Folex takes stains out of everything. It is not just for carpets. I love it. I just took dried blood out of white shirt and it worked perfectly. For grease stains I use D-Limonene 100% FOOD GRADE Citrus Solvent. It is sold by Amazon and dissolves all grease.

Dawn Powerwash is such an underrated cleaner in my opinion. I use it every day, I even took it on vacation with me (needed something to wash my smoothie machine in the hotel room!) and I use it in the bathroom to clean the shower as well.
Also, regular Dawn will get ink out of fabric. Learned that after my toddler drew all over the white sheets in a hotel a few years back.
Love the silicone broom, I wonder how it would work with tile...
I may need to buy that duster for under the fridge. I typically just pull mine out once a month, stove too. But, I can't get under the dishwasher and it drives me batty. Something to put in the cart and see if it ever gets bought.

Thank you Dawn for the great video as always. I love the Swedish dish clothes and have found them to be durable and easy to use. Mine have not pilled or torn with frequent use. I love that they don’t get as bad smelling as a traditional dish cloth. I actually bleach mine and run through the dishwasher at times as well. As a minimalist it is a game changer for me and I love the low profile and small amount of space to store them. Thank you for your wisdom and the kindness you put out in the world❤

Use the silicone broom to get under the fridge, as it appears to have an adjustable handle. As it lays so flat, it would get under there. You could also elastic band a microfiber cloth to the silicone broom. Another option, it to use empty paper towel rolls, attached together with duct tape. Adjust it to fit your vacuum cleaner. The empty paper towel rolls can bend easily, and it will vacuum under the fridge, or any heavy furniture, that you want to get under. I like to think outside the box with products, and get more than one use out of them.😏 As for the Swedish dish cloths, they are fabulous, and compostable. I've had mine for over 1.5 years. I've only tossed one out into the compost bin, which got a bit ripped when I was scrubbing at something, a little too much.😏 I just toss them in the washing machine, with the towel laundry.☺ Lay flat to dry, they do warp a bit when drying. But, they last a long time, they grab the dirt easily in the groove, and rinse out well. I use one for the day, and toss in the wash. I've been happy with them. I don't have the luxury of a dishwasher. All my dishes are done 3 times a day. With a combo of the Scrub Daddy and the Swedish dish cloths. Nice channel. Thanks for the tips.

Dawn, I have tile around my shower and I used to use products and spend time scrubbing off soap scum and water build-up - sometimes even treating mold.... What I've learned is to just take a minute to dry the walls with a towel or t-shirt immediately after the shower. The shower is always shiny and rarely needs a 'cleaning product' ..(I have a hook in the shower to dry the cloth before putting in hamper)

This is what I have to do as well. We have well water and if I don't wipe the shower/tub down afterwards, the iron settles fast and dries leaving an orange/reddish stain that can be almost impossible to remove. A microfiber cloth works great or one of the drying towels for a car.

    • @ruthkujala7677
      @ruthkujala7677 8 месяцев назад

@@rmrfamily Yes, it's just habit now. Takes less than a minute. Saves on products and time..... We can extend the life of razors by storing them so that the water doesn't flow to the end of the blade. Most people store razors up in a cup with the head up (like a toothbrush) or they set them down with the razor facing head down. Both ways leave water deposits on the sharp edge of the razor which makes them dull much faster.

About the skinny lint brush, it really becomes useful if you remove the dryer filter assembly (takes undoing three screws normally) and use the lint brush in the larger cavity in the dryer where the filter assembly usually sits. That's because lint tends to stick on the internal metal walls and start layering. That skinny lint brush is a wonder at scraping the stuck-on lint off. Then you can use a vacuum hose attachment connected to your vacuum and suck it all up. The cavity will be much cleaner for longer term cleaning.
Plus, it is much easier to clean the filter assembly by spraying it down in the kitchen sink because it has a lot of spots where lint likes to hide. Then you can reattach it. It can take less than half an hour, but you are giving your dryer a much better deep clean.
Bonus: When you do remove the filter assembly, you see the connection wires for the sensor that sits right by the filter assembly. Lint gets stuck there easily, and then a smart dryer may send out false warnings about the heating or the lint buildup in the machine. Keeping that connection clean can save you money from unnecessary repair call outs.

I think I'd like the new broom. I love the Swedish dishcloths. They do a great job, all purpose. Like other things, clean them in the top rack of the dishwasher...They last a long time. They don't break-down often. They don't get grubby unless you use them for really grubby stuff, just like everything else. I've been using them for years. They can be expensive or reasonable, depending. I use a soft pumice stone with a handle (made for the purpose ) to move occasional rings that form in the toilet bowl. You wet the stone in the bowl first.

Love my Swedish dishcloths. They don’t pill, but they do eventually get stained. You can throw them in the dishwasher to clean or the washer with no fabric softener. Once they get too grungy looking, you can plant them in your garden to decompose. You don’t even throw them in the trash to add to the landfill. Great product.

Easy and nothing new needed. ❤ well I kept watching and you said that lol😂 I'm a long time cleaning lady and Dawn or a knock off power wash (I got one at DG for $1) is essential for my business. I use it for bathtubs and showers.

Great coverage of so many products. Regarding the dryer bent brush, it's long so you can go beyond what you see...if you "scrub", I believe it helps loosen the caked on lint so what you dont pull up goes on out.
I had the one you showed years ago and didn't like how stiff it was. I recently purchased one that is more flexible and has a plastic flat hose you attach to your vacuum that then allows you to get dien to pull out the loose lint.

I have a gas stove with a black enamel stovetop that is miserable to clean because it always look smeary/ streaky no matter what product I used. Clean My Space used a DIY spray of Dawn & water with Alcohol on something so I tried it - Bingo works great! Whereas glass cleaner did not.
I like the fan gadget - I use a brush type one now and it is messy and doesn't get all the dust, so thanks for that one.
I bought the Pink Stuff paste and discovered that the top of the container doesn't fit tight so it dried out pretty quickly. I will keep my Bar Keepers Friend since it is reliable.
The Soap Pump dispenser is truly brilliant - can't wait to try it.
So glad you took the time to try these products. I have seen the drill brushes and didn't think the quality looked all that great per some reviews. I may reconsider that now since my car mats need help, and it might work well on the tires too.

Sorry, Dawn, I am almost always a naysayer. They have something similar at the DT for sweeping the floors, just the bottom part and another for the fan blades.
I did get two different sets of Swedish towels, I don't like them. I got them to get on board to take responsibility on taking care of our EARTH. I rather use old socks, t-shirts, old towels and any other rags. I cut them up to the sizes needed. I do have paper towels, but I only buy a 6 pk every 18 months or so, for the bad messes or to drain oil off of fried foods.
For the dishwasher, I re-run it with only water and at that time I do the disinfect cycle. So I run it twice.
I got a similar brush at a dollar store, that you are trying in your dryer opening/ where the lint trap goes. I use it for under the fridge and stove.
Dishwashing soap is great for oil, foods, and blood stains before the washer.
Thank you for all you do. Beyond how negative I tend to be, I truly need Your videos. Thank you for all you do ❣️🤔😒🫣
