Actually, no. Cats have evolved to jump from a standing start: that enables them to calculate the distance and direction precisely. And cats do not catch prey by running them down, like wolves. They use stalking and ambushing. When cats run and then jump, they sometimes fail. Ask any cat owner. The run-and-jump specialists are the dogs.

I think he intentionally pulled up short as to not land too high on the rock where the momentum would carry him further and into the water headfirst.
This way he lands behind the rock,, head up, feet in front using the rock as a stop.
That's alot of energy to slow down to be able to stop on a dime.

"Feet wet"! The paws are at the end of his front legs. No cat owner talks about their cat's back feet as "paws." A cat's paws are its hands, so to speak.

This probably my most favorite video ever. Look at how it judges the distance. Check out the incredible energy it builds from a standstill. And look how it uses its legs in the air and how it braces for impact. It didn’t quite stick the landing, but its technical abilities are phenomenal… I give the Bobcat a solid 9.8. ❤️❤️

This is the second time RUclips recommended this to me after I first viewed it two years ago. I was not disappointed.
Oh, kitty got wet. Love the paw shakes at the end! I thought he was going for the smaller rock; I have seen my housecats jump from one loaded tabletop to another across a room and stick the landing perfectly on an open space the size of a hand.
Dangggggg !!!! We have Bobcat's that sit on our 7 ft. wall quite a bit. I thought the wall was high for them to jump up on but this was insane. Bobcat's are amazing animals. Great video.
