i recognize mcconnell as a separate powerful entity on twitch. this guy is willing to do what would be considered impossible stream content in any other channel. nine hour streams that: loop a single song, a close-up of a fishing pole in action, twitch camera work, constant insults, terrible gameplay. but it's entertaining. really, he's the opposite of what you'd consider a professional, and each stream is entirely volatile in its level of success, but that only adds to the genuine attitude of whatever it is. that's magic.

Considering how stupidly low the DPS checks actually are in Classic, bringing even 10 Rets will still win if the players are not stupid. Hell, even 20 of them! This shit literally does not matter. The highest DPS check in all of Classic is about 350DPS which any DPS spec can do, even Rets and even Boomkins. The arguments about viability are inherently incorrect because everything is viable, just not over-tuned to the same point. Overkill is not better than kill. Kill is kill.

In Vanilla times you had like 25 or so people that were "good" for the standards at the time and the rest was pretty much only decoration and they still downed the raids, except Naxx but well there was the matter of not having enough time etc.. So whenever i hear something like "We can only take 1 Shadow, Owl, Ret, Cat" or shit like that i honestly wanna give them a smack. ALl that just because they read in some guide about the "Best Raid Setup".

Private servers upped the difficulty of every other raid so it's a given they also made Naxx more difficult. The raid will be cleared within 2h of release by the top guilds and within the first week by every serious guild. Consumable farming isn't a huge problem nowadays when people know very efficient gold farming methods and guild banks are filled to the brim with gold and mats.
Would you give someone loot whos on follow the entire raid? Thats basically what these meme specs are. Other people invest time to make the experience of the raid go smoothly and then you have 5 dead slots who let themselves get carried by the other 35. That being said, Mcconnel is right, if he wants to play whats fun for him he should be able to. I just personally dont understand how getting carried is fun.
I caught way too much shit when I played a a fury warrior gemmed out for armor pen when it was a thing in pvp, my brother played a shaman with full resil and it was a graveyard camping team up that ended up getting mid to high arena ratings at the time. The one way to let a raid let dps as ret is to wield nightfall. With seal twisting you can manipulate the game by "spell batching". I don't fully understand it but the principle is simple. Start of by using SoC and hit the target, when the animation HITS the target,switch over the SotC. When you are about to HIT the target again switch to SoC. This gives you the benefit of both seals at the same time. The HIT is pretty small so having an addon is a must. This means you Attack at 2. something AND and proc SoC. Pair it with HoJ and MHMM. fks the rotation but the numbers are sweet.
There's no reason why anybody shouldn't be able to play what ever race, classic, faction, etc. they want. Classic is easy and extreme min maxing is such a weird thing to prioritize.

I think ret is completely valid. The content is not that hard that a ret couldn't come to a raid, since you don't need to faceroll all the content in the game.
I watched these streams. The problem people had wasn't playing a sucky spec (although that was an issue), it's that it was clear McConnell was raid logging and doing absolutely zero for the guild outside raids. Maybe this would've been different if he was still around for BGs. But Asmon, for example, organized the guild to go off a farm Eyes for the priests or getting mats for Hands of Rag and the like. People who contribute to the guild (eg organizing and running raids, helping people farm stuff and so on) are always gonna get prio for loot otherwise it destroys the guild's confidence in the guild leader. I agree you were memed on by chat and even Asmon a little too much. But I think what drove chat was the loot whoring raid logging. If you're going to be a loot wore (which is fine) you need to organize your own raids (like Asmon's shameless runs for his warlock) or doing stuff with or for the guild. You say you're not a big streamer but I guarantee you you have the audience for a shameless run on stream. 100%. I kind of agree with people who think you've got a bit of a self--confidence issue. Loot drama is always bad. In a perfect system the worst geared player would always get the drop. But that wouldn't be fair in the game since that player hasn't put in the time that the better geared players have. When you compare classes and roles, it gets worse. If an item would give a dps warrior a 25 dps increase and a ret paladin a 15 dps increase, then the most efficient solution is to allow warriors to roll and the paladin just sits until all the warriors have it, but that's unfair to the paladin.
You know the worst thing about ‘meta’ isn’t that everyone copies it to try and cheese to become the best, it’s that anyone who doesn’t is ostracised for it, even treated like they’re dumber, worse or downright game ruining just for ranking fun above ability. What happened to enjoying a game, since when did you have to become a semi-pro just to qualify for hanging out. In Vanilla times you had like 25 or so people that were "good" for the standards at the time and the rest was pretty much only decoration and they still downed the raids, except Naxx but well there was the matter of not having enough time etc.. So whenever i hear something like "We can only take 1 Shadow, Owl, Ret, Cat" or shit like that i honestly wanna give them a smack. ALl that just because they read in some guide about the "Best Raid Setup".

@@marcelherzog3735 All the data on Naxx 40 in vanilla is pretty skewed because so few people actually were able to run it. Private servers upped the difficulty of every other raid so it's a given they also made Naxx more difficult. The raid will be cleared within 2h of release by the top guilds and within the first week by every serious guild. Consumable farming isn't a huge problem nowadays when people know very efficient gold farming methods and guild banks are filled to the brim with gold and mats.
Would you give someone loot whos on follow the entire raid? Thats basically what these meme specs are. Other people invest time to make the experience of the raid go smoothly and then you have 5 dead slots who let themselves get carried by the other 35. That being said, Mcconnel is right, if he wants to play whats fun for him he should be able to. I just personally dont understand how getting carried is fun.

I don't even know you dude, just even started listening to occasional Asmond stuff but out of all this the main point I agree with is your dedication to you Pally. I stopped WoW years ago but whether its there or MANY other MMOs I've always "Main" a mage/wizard/elementalist whatever and usually I don't run "everyone's favorite spec" I mean back in Wrath-Pandaland I was a good little mage and mostly killed it in Arcane (Frost in PvP) but I love fire mages, usually when doing solo stuff in games I run fire spells and yes they did garbage in alot of scenarios so I resorted to Arcane to shut people up lol, I actually have a Ret Pally I alt ran in wrath and Cata but both him and my Shadow priest kinda got left somewhere after Pandaland started, I say play how you want and if people have a problem with it then they do, sucks to be them.

The one way to let a raid let dps as ret is to wield nightfall. With seal twisting you can manipulate the game by "spell batching". I don't fully understand it but the principle is simple. Start of by using SoC and hit the target, when the animation HITS the target,switch over the SotC. When you are about to HIT the target again switch to SoC. This gives you the benefit of both seals at the same time. The HIT is pretty small so having an addon is a must. This means you Attack at 2. something AND and proc SoC. Pair it with HoJ and MHMM. fks the rotation but the numbers are sweet.

I think ret is completely valid. The content is not that hard that a ret couldn't come to a raid, since you don't need to faceroll all the content in the game.

I watched these streams. The problem people had wasn't playing a sucky spec (although that was an issue), it's that it was clear McConnell was raid logging and doing absolutely zero for the guild outside raids. Maybe this would've been different if he was still around for BGs. But Asmon, for example, organized the guild to go off a farm Eyes for the priests or getting mats for Hands of Rag and the like. People who contribute to the guild (eg organizing and running raids, helping people farm stuff and so on) are always gonna get prio for loot otherwise it destroys the guild's confidence in the guild leader.
I agree you were memed on by chat and even Asmon a little too much. But I think what drove chat was the loot whoring raid logging. If you're going to be a loot wore (which is fine) you need to organize your own raids (like Asmon's shameless runs for his warlock) or doing stuff with or for the guild. You say you're not a big streamer but I guarantee you you have the audience for a shameless run on stream. 100%. I kind of agree with people who think you've got a bit of a self--confidence issue.

Loot drama is always bad. In a perfect system the worst geared player would always get the drop. But that wouldn't be fair in the game since that player hasn't put in the time that the better geared players have. When you compare classes and roles, it gets worse. If an item would give a dps warrior a 25 dps increase and a ret paladin a 15 dps increase, then the most efficient solution is to allow warriors to roll and the paladin just sits until all the warriors have it, but that's unfair to the paladin.

You know the worst thing about ‘meta’ isn’t that everyone copies it to try and cheese to become the best, it’s that anyone who doesn’t is ostracised for it, even treated like they’re dumber, worse or downright game ruining just for ranking fun above ability. What happened to enjoying a game, since when did you have to become a semi-pro just to qualify for hanging out. It’s a shame, and it feels like we lose more than we gain when all we do is hunt the meta. Ofcourse there’s exceptions, but the trend is undeniable.
