The Booking Agent for the RE--INC pod is FAN-TAB-U-LOUS! So impressed with your Lineup of Guests. And now...Meg Linehan, THE Meg Linehan, of The Athletic, is about to be interviewed...Stunned. Thanks SO VERY Much!
Another wonderful episode!! Thank you for being so open about your journey, support really does make a difference, and that was a great conversation with Meg 💚
Meg, you are a credit to the spirit of New England. I go back to the beginning with the Breakers as well. My elder daughter and I were season tickets holders from the beginning, also. Might have just gone to several games the first two years. With the small fields one could hear a lot. And nothing was smaller then Dilboy Field. Then Harvard Stadium, that was way too large. Alyssa was a keeper for the Breakers. Many passed throiugh Boston. And a lot are still playing. Rose and Midge, along with Alyssa are just a few. Keep up the good work.
Tobin and christen I love you what you are doing for women’s sports in general. I got sooo emotional watching christen finally scoring her first goal back. She did it in the most christen way!
I've watched your goals repeatedly Christen. There is something so majestic about them especially when you watch them together. I just love the way you two support one another.
Fantastic show and insights into the lives of reporters. Always learn a lot about the women's game from you ladies. Congats to Christen on a banger of a goal last weekend! Wishing you many many more :)
Am I the only one that feels better simply having access to Christen and Tobin like this? They help my mental health and learning that I feel a special "bond" to them.
Love this show new insight about women soccer , injuries and overall success ,problems mentally and physical aspect of the games, love both of the women laughter and delight when talking,is what makes their show so special to watch have fun ladies😂
I love how you feature guests from all aspects of the women's game. Have you considered bringing on an athletic trainer? I'm sure they have a unique perspective, being an integral part of the day-to-day grind
Watching you be human and reveal your strengths and your vulnerabilities and fears is so inspiring and truly enlightening. Few athletes l-or should I say few male athletes-could ever be this genuine and open, and it truly deepens my love of sport and my respect for you and Tobin and all your guests. Thank you!
Great to see you back scoring, Christen, and such a brilliant goal, too! I hope we see many more like it. So good to see how overjoyed your team mates were, as well. But, a shout out to the great run through mid-field by Katie Zelem that led up to it. We miss her at Man United, but our loss is AC's gain.
This was such a roller coaster. Talking about u and success and then dropping into the abuse revelations.. i was not ready.. as a survivor from the 70s into the 80s and NO ONE talking. It was all hard to read and kno that was me revealed.. the Circle moments on the fields busted me wide open...thank you all.. blessing snd love
Meg, I was also at that Gotham v. Spirit game at Subaru Park in Chester PA. As a South Jersey Girl I was drawn to go since it was part of Carli’s retirement tour and Red Bull Arena is so far. It was my first real introduction to the NWSL and I like that woman had only a small idea what the pause in play was about. After the game I was able to educate myself and have become a fan of the entire league. Thank you for your part in exposing the abuse.
Tobin, both of you do special tricks with the ball before you score. I call it dancing with the ball. It's just so unique because it looks like 👍 yall just see things that your opponents don't. I agree with Christen when she says that Tobin is a phenomenal scorer . Like minds are interesting, what can i say ladies. I'm still tripping over that goal Christen scored last week. I know her journey back was challenging. Hope she continues to enjoy life with Tobin and family/friends. 🙂🙂❤️🧡
As an outsider and fan, I love knowing personal stories, and that's one of the reasons I listen to your podcast and Sam Mewis's. I feel like the NWSL schedule is likely more grueling nowadays and perhaps limited media access is due to their busy schedules and protecting players. However, the NWSL needs to utilize media better. The NY Liberty has done a great job of that. It is absolutely correct we need the same enthusiasm certain brands have for the NWSL reflected in the media coverage.
Wonderful to get to know a bit the wonderful journalist behind Women's Soccer in the USA. Hopefully more will be invited on the show. Sadly the diversification of TV coverage of games was helpful when Paramount+ was a dependable landing base. This year the spreading of matches across various media outlets and when will they even allow a replay of a match I think you can see, literally, across the league by more empty seats. TV coverage encourages butts in the seats, fans buying merch. Look at how Barclay's is giving the world most WSL and Champions League matches for free. Eyeballs build fans.
This is legit wild, watching around the 11th minute and I just watched that video earlier of every single Christen Press goal she has scored for the uswnt lol.
What a laugh she has when Tobin gets embarrassed. I love Christen. I am happy she returned, and I saw her play this summer in KC, it was awesome when she came on the pitch, everyone in the stadium let out a yell!
I do have one question about media coverage of women's soccer and women's sports in general. It has felt often that journalists like Meg linehan and others have been more player friendly and thus, often are not as "critical" of players in their analysis as they could be. I don't mean grades after a tournament or friendly. It feels like like a mindset that "the women's league has struggled, female players climb an uphill battle" so we have to support them. This is not meant as a criticism, but it has felt over the years that the close relationship between journalists and players has prevented some critiques.
I agree with this. That has felt like it’s been missing from woso. Love the heartfelt stories, but sometimes I just want non biased critics about actual matches, tactics, etc. also, in the NWSL, hard hitting questions for the coaches are needed IMO.
Think part of the problem is the balance on ticket prices. USWNT tickets were starting at 65-75 per ticket. That does not include travel, parking, food(since almost all stadiums do not allow ANYTHING inside the gates). That ticket price for the average working class fan is unaffordable, at least for me it is. Club tickets are a bit more affordable but still unless you are making a comfortable $100K a year it is a hard budget struggle.
The journalism/media aspect is not talked about enough in regards to growing the womens game. As more athletes lock down their social media and cleanse their profiles to become a brand, i think we do lose some authenticity and connection. We don't know enough about naomi girma, sophia smith, etc. to support them in the same way that fans follow Tobin and Christen. That comes with pros and cons for the athlete but it is a way that the game is changing and audiences get bigger but more fleeting at the same time.
Meg was so good in this interview, so cool to hear her side of the WoSo world. She has been hugely important to getting great coverage, she’s the reason I subscribe to the athletic.
Great show but it is clear that Women's rptg still needs to be a more clearer related to holistic/structural prospective. Maybe further understanding from ESPN, etc. How does podcasting, Together or a Touch More come in, etc.. Also, a discussion from inside out works like Meg alluded to Rapinoe.
Second comment: I think Ilona Maher and her social media give us direct access to her and her sport that we don’t have with women’s soccer-but is that possible in soccer? How in the world would our USWNT players even have the time for that? It’s an interesting puzzle.
Did christen imply that ACFC has starters sit in first-class while benchwarmers get economy ? Am I misinterpreting that or what the hell is that about?
That woman that asked Meg why they stopped the game didnt know what was going on because she published her article on The Athletic that requires subscription to read about what's going on so maybe a consideration to make certain articles that is important to reach the public be made free
If anyone needs a link - ruclips.net/video/PV_iFcimGVg/видео.htmlsi=cEvr-VYsA4kelqtw I've watched this one often. CP is really one of my favorite goal scorers of all time. The style is unmatched.
Still too many in women's sports need at least a dual income family setting to have it be feasible. Of course that is too true in real life for the majority of women in this country,

I watch christen press goals all the time!!! Nothing but bangers!! The way she glides across the field is so beautiful. You’ve been missed press!!! ❤
32:52 - Phenomenal breakdown of the media connection by Tobin!
Truly love this show! I just wish you had a consistent release schedule (day & time). Keep up the great content 👍
Bold of tobin to assume we haven't already watched the christen press goal compilations
I've been through a lot of those goal compilation videos and the ones with bts clips of her from college

Another great episode. Loved the different perspective Meg brought. Also, we all watch CP goals when we need the serotonin!! Many more to come!

this interview was so good and interesting, lots of respect for Meg 🤝
Really nice to get insight from a journalist who's been here the whole time, and broke such huge and impactful stories !
Congratulations, Christen! I hope to see more goals and assists. You are the best.

Watching reels of an elite soccer player scoring goal ofter goal is healing (for me).
Great conversation. Thank you!

Thru the first 20 minutes, I thought *I* had been saying Meg’s name wrong the whole time… whew!
Did anybody catch what Meg said at 38:32? Thank you!

I have watched every Christen Press goal so many times! :D Like Tobin said, everyone should go and watch CP23's goals. Freaking GOLAZOS!!!!!!!

Welcome back, Christen!
Best goal Christen has scored was in 2016 against Costa Rica where she took it down behind her back and spun and buried it.
Meg was so good in this interview, so cool to hear her side of the WoSo world. She has been hugely important to getting great coverage, she’s the reason I subscribe to the athletic.
Agree Christen has a unique talent ! 🥅⚽️
I was about to say… have I been saying Megs lastname wrong this whole time? 😂 good to know I wasnt

Hello Tobin and Christen. Very interesting, but the MSM has changed too, as your RUclips channel shows it has competition for an audience.
Tobin's face with the name mix-up 🤣
Do they have a football strategy called the Christen Press where it's like a press built around Christen?
Second comment: I think Ilona Maher and her social media give us direct access to her and her sport that we don’t have with women’s soccer-but is that possible in soccer? How in the world would our USWNT players even have the time for that? It’s an interesting puzzle.
Btw Sam Mewes pod casts do give us some insite to the players lives.

This episode about investigative journalism… but the whole ACFC current issue wasn’t addressed? !!
We do they call it a recovery journey and not just recovery
