    Another great idea is to colour code each end of your cables..I can't count how many times ive grabbed the wrong end!! Thanks again!

    Just did the same thing in my studio and sessions have been going so much smoother. Its super stressful when you're in the middle of a loud session and you can't find certain things or you're struggling to make sense of your signal chain. Great video.

    I love when i see that people who are totally crushing it have setups that are really not much different than mine.

    "This isn't proper soundproofing, but you know what? I don't really care." *slow clap* That is exactly what people running home studios (like me) need to hear! LEarn your monitors, learn your room, prosper. We don't all need to record in the Abbey Road studio or with billion dollar monitors to make good sounding records!

      Crazy for the longest time believing you truly had to be in a "professional studio" to get that "professional sound". Faaawwk that!! We needed someone like bobby to spill the truth!

    Do you run all of your A/D inputs to the patchbay? I have the same patchbay and the same snake and constantly flip back and forth if I want the snake wired directly to my A/D inputs or if I want them wired to the patchbay? Phantom power is really what gives me heartburn about it

    • @FrightboxRecording
      @FrightboxRecording  3 года назад

      The patchbay can pass phantom power, so that's not an issue. I have 3 mics and 1 DI normalled in the rig so they're set up 24/7. The patchbay is there to patch those leftover channels on my snakes to the interfaces if I need to break the normal. It's set up if someone needs the extra inputs on the snake and doesn't need the DI and 3 room mics that are normalled.

    • @stephencline685
      @stephencline685 3 года назад

      @@FrightboxRecording So the "normalled" set of jacks is in the rear, the snake is plugged into the top row, the A/D inputs plugged into the bottom row. Then if you want to access the A/D inputs via a regular cable you just plug that input source into the gray jack on the front of the patchbay?

    • @FrightboxRecording
      @FrightboxRecording  3 года назад

      @@stephencline685 Exactly. If you pause the video where I show the finished labeling on the patchbay, you can see how it's set up. The extra snake channels aren't normalled, they're connected on the top row and can be patched to one of the 4 additional inputs on the bottom row which are normalled to the DI box and 3 room mics.

      @@FrightboxRecording *furiously rewires patchbay* thanks! That will work a lot better than what I had before. Do you have a snake that has XLR inputs and TRS connectors or do you run a bunch of adapters/another short snake to convert the XLR to TRS for the patchbay? Last question, I promise

    • @FrightboxRecording
      @FrightboxRecording  3 года назад

      @@stephencline685 No prob man, I love this stuff! I have two short 8 channel snakes in the back of my rack that act as adapters. One is XLR Female to TRS 1/4" and the other is XLR Male to TRS 1/4". They're what I use to connect the XLR ins and outs to the 1/4" patchbay.

    That patchbay, is it balanced connectors?

    • @FrightboxRecording
      @FrightboxRecording  3 года назад +1

      Yes sir. I use it for microphones. A few mics and one DI are normalled to specific preamps and the patchbay allows to reroute if necessary.

    • @cederickforsberg5840
      @cederickforsberg5840 3 года назад

      @@FrightboxRecording Ok I was always confused looking at those wondering the real purpose, as I thought it was unbalanced connectors... I was wrong :)
      Make a video about how you connect and use the patchbay please =D
