Hey Bobby, awesome video! Question about the bass amp line out. If you were mixing a live session where you recorded the bass amp line out.. would you run that through a bass cab IR or leave it as is? Thanks! Jordan
I'm only like 6 minutes in but this video just solved a huge problem for me. This might sound stupid, but I didn't know those XLR snakes existed. I have my drums in a separate room from where my PC is, and I've been struggling to figure out how to route all the cables correctly, this changes everything, thanks man!
hey, i enjoed this Stuidio Tour. Nicely clean setup. I agree with you that gear does not matter that much. For my Recordings i use a old Windows-PC with reaper, a M-Audio Delta 1010 and a very cheap 16 Chanel mixer. What Do you think of Y-Cabel used for 2 Mics into one chanel, for example bassdrum front and batterside? Same für Snare top and bottom?
We all use the chance to do bunch of other stuff when something goes wrong, don't we? hehe... But I wanted to ask, how come you don't build some nice ticker acoustic panels to treat the room a bit better? I know you can make it work regardless, and you showed us with recent videos, but still, they are easy and cheep to build, and they work much better than the foam like the one you use. I built several 2" panels years ago, and recently I built more 4" ones, and the sound is much more focused and with much less reflections and reverberation. It took me just few hours to make them, I highly suggest.
Great question! In all honesty I love the sound of the room as it is and I don't want to mess with it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I've recorded drums in a bunch of different treated rooms and I usually find it's a little too sterile-sounding for my tastes.
Pretty nice setup!!! Question, when you record a guitar or drums, and want to hear for mic placement, how do you proceed ? That cranked amp must be pretty loud
It's great that you're not a gear freak. You can do so much with not that much gear. The only thing I don't like is the useless foam on the walls. That alone hurts your recordings and mixes since all you're doing is cutting some of the highs and leaving you with a very unbalanced room. That's one place you should invest a little in DIY bass traps and proper acoustic panels. I suppose that you've learned to compensate for this with trial and errors but hey, I think the issue needs to be looked at here.
@@FrightboxRecording I see your point, if you can make it work more power to you. You seem to suggest that proper acoustic treatment is snobbery, that I don't agree with. Also, sound proofing and acoustic treatment are two different things. The terms aren't interchangeable. I'm glad this works for you though, I'm not that good or experienced, I need a fairly balanced room.
@@CarcPazu I definitely don't think it's snobbery and I 100% understand it's place in audio production. I'm only demonstrating that I've never needed it, personally. I started taking note of it when I'd achieve better drum sounds in my project studio than when I'd record in acoustically treated pro studios. For me, the key is that I know my room.

Ayeeee thanks so much bro! Thanks for putting so much work into your studio, and letting me/us practice. You’re the man
Anytime Ray!
Just Epic. Nice simple gear, i love it. Greetings from Argentina with my lexicon lambda (only) gear next to me! You rock!
Wonderful studio tour my friend!
Professional to the max! Great organization tips for both studios and live venues.
Loved it
Thank you sir for showing us around your crib 🤘🤘🤘
I was about to ask you for a full tour on the new studio! Nice man !!!
Macbook Pro 2012 is solid. I'm still using mine as well.
Macs are expensive, but last forever and hold their value extremely well....totally worth it in my opinion!

Excellent question. I usually use the stock amp sim in Pro Tools (Sansamp PSA-1).
@@FrightboxRecording Great, thanks!

Happy to have been a help!
Very nice setup for sure
Man I have my Pearl kit in storage at the moment and yours is exactly like mine, beautiful kit!
didn't realize you know Ray, awesome!

The Y cable wouldn't work for me. I need to have control over the individual mics within the mix.
Hey buddy love your vids, I was looking into that motu interface. What OS do you use? I heard it doesn't work on catalina.
I use Catalina and Big Sur. It works with both. Motu are great with keeping their drivers up to date.
Looks great!
Bobby, I never saw a balanced 1/4” patch bay. Was the trs cable just for demo purposes?
The TRS cable was actually a 1/4" patch cable. The patchbay is indeed a 1/4" patchbay.
Haha… so I’m not crazy! 😂
Awesome little studio man. I'm jealous , LoL.
the tech is changing the game

@@FrightboxRecording I get it, why waste time learning your room again if it works. Thanks for the reply.

We only reamp, so we're not in the room while the amp is being recorded. I wear earplugs when recording drums and Ben wears in ears. Seems to work!
@@FrightboxRecording What i wonder is like when doing mic placement how do you manage to ear what the mic is picking up ?
@@666Ekinox I record a sample, take out my earplugs and listen back on the monitors. Usually takes a few tries, but not many.
@@FrightboxRecording Great, I was wondering if you had a magical technique i do not know about :D I do the same
Wow dude! An impulse response that requires no high pass filter, or high mid attenuation. Just plug-n-play!
Man new carpet?! I gotta come and eat some apple sauce while sitting on that
AFTER baked potato.
I thought that tiki corner had a Day of the Dead feel to it. Lol
thats cool, but routing seems a little bit overwhelming 😅😂,
It's much simpler than it seems. The idea is to have the flexibility to break the normals if anyone needs all 24 inputs.
@@FrightboxRecording ohh got it!!
