      ***** Black Sabbath was born in 1968, Slayer and Voivod was born in the early 80s, people just didn't know they existed. And it's generally a bad idea to try and divide Metal into even smaller subcategories, because all of rock was essentially born from blues and jazz. And those were born from folk music...which is to say singing and smashing objects together in a rhythmic fashion.

    I have to say that I'm not surprised. The people at metal/rock concerts form some of the nicest crowds. They truly do take care of each other. I've seen people share water with each other, move so then the shorter fans can see, and even signal to the bands to come help when someone passes out. Granted their is the general shoving and excitement of a regular crowd but I have to say that I have NEVER seen anyone in a metal crowd get aggressive with each other unless they were protecting someone or in a Pit

    dude i was molested when i was 8
    children teased/ bullied me at school, made me feel worthless, so did the teachers even made me reapeat a grade, which made me hate anything to do with school and before i was showing progress
    parents neglected me, because i wasnt the star child they wanted, instead they got afat and ugly kid, to prove it, i fell of the roof of my house, and went back inside with a gash on my head and alot of scrapes, my spine eventually bent over the years, and guess which parents did nothing about it?
    they only complain why i dont have a good job or a car, like my family members
    thank you for metal, i would either be dead by suicide or a junkie by now if i never heard about metal, thankfully the Hybrid theory, 1st korn album, & slipknots iowa made my wounds heal,
    ive become the jokster in the group,
    ive had lost up to 40pounds
    become a chick magnet lol
    and still perusing my education at 25
    thank you metal, you saved my life

    Metal is definitely a way to regulate emotions, it's such a blunt honest tool for venting, most people would probably be shocked to see how soft hearted and kind most metal heads are, very sensitive people in general, I remember hearing the lead singer of Opeth (a death metal band) saying one of the inspirations to write his song blackwater park was because he was sad his grandma died!

    • @ya8aweenaystrday
      @ya8aweenaystrday 7 лет назад

      Rutger van der Meer Technicality doesn't mean shit if the song doesn't have a good structure. Endless sweeping and random tremolo picking just sounds like nonsense. Not many can do technical right but to name a few who can, Beyond Creation, Obscura, Suffocation, Necrophagist, Decapitated, and Abnormality know how to write good tech death without getting boring and staying genuinely musical. Then you have bands like Brain Drill that just sound like chaotic wankery, which I suppose has a right to have a place in metal too but it's not as versatile.

    • @ya8aweenaystrday
      @ya8aweenaystrday 7 лет назад

      Rutger van der Meer That's why I said metal doesn't have to technical. Like black metal for example. A lot of the bands just tremolo pick minor bar chords very fast, not technical by any means but still very musical and atmospheric.

    I am glad we have a study, which basically puts a nail in the coffin of the often heard accusation from the Religious Right back in the 80s, that listening to heavy metal would lead to emotional dysfunction, the worship of Satan, and would cause the listener to sink into the depths of despair, drug use, and underachievement. Everyone who I knew who listened to bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Megadeth etc.etc.etc. grew up to be upstanding and well adjusted citizens - many becoming doctors, lawyers, engineers, and the pillars of their community. As with most things, the religious conservatives were wrong on this issue. Given their abysmal track record and predicting doom and gloom, it is confounding how anyone takes them seriously anymore.

      +Mr. Smith
      I'd say don't form judgmental opinions if not acquainted with knowledge and basic knowledge of a subjective matter , in this case I'm a musician so I might as well tell you you are wrong metal music an pop music have different tempo (pace) , different drum beats , heavily distorted guitars , instead of lyrics that talk about nonsensical small talk subjects metal and all sub-genres of metal have lyrics that are acquainted with sadness , loneliness , and other negative feelings which through aggressiveness are released , and give you hope , metal is usually more about your higher powers and self .
      this was in general terms , if talked about in more detail and depth , the guitar parts that are being played have scales that are more dark sounding , a little towards menacing and melodious at the same time .
      Drum beats are more filling and fast as a result the music overall is faster
      vocals are more thrash , and also there is growling , screeching , head on screaming , and may more vocal patterns and styles which make the song heavy
      the guitars can be down tuned to go to a lower octave , matching the vocals
      the bass plays a major role in playing more than you imagine because you don't listen to bass you feel it , there's a lot of explanation and depth to this so I wont elaborate on the subject

    Never felt better than being at a metal concert. The energy, the music and the community holds together, even if people are moaning. The only time I've seen someone get violent was when a guy lost his cool, because he was recording and another dude bumped into him. He got kicked out for punching the guy in the gut. Sure things get intense, but if you walk away without some bruises, you're doing it wrong

      I can understand that. I have gone to a concert, not moshed, and had a bad-ass time. Moshing ain't for everyone. I have let up and mellowed a little since i hit my thirties. Sucks when you're old enough to feel your knees are aching after about two hours of moving around.lol

    I love many styles of music including jazz, hip hop, many subgenres of electro (trance, psytrance, dnb, house, etc.), country, punk, etc. But metal was my first real love. With metal, I got to experience music in a more invested way. I began buying albums, playing guitar, etc. and becoming more serious about listening to music. I was a bit of a snob when I was a teenager, listening to only metal and bashing everything else. Then I grew up and opened up my mind more and more and began appreciating the styles I mentionned above. Metal has teached me how to invest myself in music, made me pickup an instrument, and also how to enjoy concerts. Metal is something that you love forever, even if I spend some time listening to other stuff I always end up going back to metal.
    Also, concerts have the best crowds. I've been to some hip hop shows and while the performances were amazing, the crowd nearly killed the experience at some point

    This is really interesting. Even though I don't often listen to metal, I can definitely see how this could be true. I'm more of a punk rock fan and feel that it helps me with my emotional nonsense and I can see how metal would for other's. And for people saying those that listen to metal are weird, c'mon, there are weirdo's in every music genre.

    • @crowmisfits
      @crowmisfits 9 лет назад +1

      Trace Dominguez The reason it would apply to a lot of niche music and not pop music is because there are so many people who only listen to pop music because it's popular and they want to fit in (just like you mentioned in the video about how other people's opinions on a song would influence people who disagreed because they wanted to fit in) where people who listen to niche music are less concerned about fitting in and more interested in finding things they actually like and are probably more in tune with who they are as an individual instead desperately trying to be accepted by betraying who they actually are as a person. Take a person who is confident in who they are even if it's different and compare them to someone who lets public opinion decide for them and it's pretty obvious who will be the more emotionally stable person.

    The metal community is so much more welcoming than the fucking pop or hip hop community. The metal community looks out for one another. We encourage each other to be themselves. I am so glad that I found this genre of music and it make me feel good everytime I listen to it. I have been to a few hip hop concerts and there were fights in the crowds and people yelling at one another and I didn't feel safe. Now I have been to so many metal and hard rock concerts and everyone is there to enjoy themselves and listen to the music. Yeah there are mosh pits and it may seem dangerous but everytime someone falls down, people are there to help them up. That would never happen at a hip hop concert. This is why the metal community is and always will be the greatest music community of all time.

    This is my favourite episode of DNews EVER!...And the best part is that both I and even YOU, didn't even need a study to find out that Metal is the best music, has the most well adjusted and creative fans, and is better for people in more ways than the mainstream trash played on the radio..
    All you really had to so was to ACTUALLY TALK TO a metal head for 5 -10 minutes and you would have just figured it out!...
    I have had many conversations with other metal head friends mainstreamers who just think that metal is noise and nothing else, and they always look so confused at the shit we say because they are either too stupid to comprehend anything or they just didn't expect creativity from someone who CLEARLY, JUDGING FROM THE COVER... IS ALL ABOUT DEVIL WORSHIPING.... -.-
    Another thing that I have noticed is that people who listen to metal have a higher appreciation for older music than people who listen to mainstream music...... Most likely because they're in tune with their creativity, so they appreciate a song or a band for what it really is, more than just noise that a mainstreamer wouldn't take the time out of their day for to TRY and understand........
    I'm 24 years old right now, and one of the best memories I have is hanging out with a mate of mine a few years back.. Just the 2 of us.. And his mum went away for whatever reason, so we both thought fuck it, lets have a few drinks..
    We pulled all the mattresses in the house into the lounge room, turned off all the lights and what not, and we both sat in the dark, drinks in our hand, listening to nothing but 40's SWING MUSIC...
    If that ain't appreciating the music, what is?

    Im no 80's metal head yet i enjoy good music(i dont cosider most pop songs or rap a good music) i am a moderate rock/metal fan(not to confuse with fan, i ain't no blowing machine nor am i sucking machine), i think that ppl who listen to metal benefits from emotions it induce in us and enjoy story, they can relate to it and to other ppl who listens, and they have this sandbox for sadness anger, violence, joy, motivation even. I think it is important to what you listen to and what you do understand out of it, and it doesn't matter what genere it is, for me it is metal and rock and some pop songs, i like trash metal but i dont like most of rap and i consider it paradoxally trash, the rest of it i cannot say i don't like or like, it can be in the background but im rarely interested. Also i love alice cooper's video's visual aspects, the endting is just pure gold.

    A few days ago I was at a concert called "Eistnaflug" which is the biggest Rock-concert in Iceland, And for the weekend that I was there, I meet the nicest people ever. I never noticed any fighting, arguing or anything like that. Everyone I talked to and heard talking were so friendly that I found it a bit hard to believe xD One of the guys I talked to said he had walked around and seen if people would give him a hug if he spread his arms out and said "Eyyyy!" and smiled, he hugged over 200 people and only 4 girls and 1 guy didn't want hugs, but he was never punched or told to "fuck off", like he was expecting and said that if he was anywhere else, it would have happened with the first 5-10 people. It's nice to get faith in humans every once in a while :D
    (I'm in no way good with what music is "metal, rock, pop etc." so forgive me if a rock-concert isn't related to this video ^-^ )

    as a 21 year old in a family of 9, me and my younger brother are the older metalheads, and one think ive notice with the other family that are into hiphop, pop music etc is that they have this mentality a song getting old real fast.
    for example, my older brother loves his pop music and he will love a song for like 2 months, then he will never listen to it ever again, if u play it in front of him he will say things like " dude that songs old now"
    I find metal songs to never get old, i may sometimes get sick of listening to it, but I always come back to it.

    "These people felt inspired and emotional even with subject matter that was sad or isolationist" - 1:43
    That's the best broad description of metalheads I've ever heard, as well as why they like music that sounds 'scary' to most people.
