agidyne967 I certainly didn't expect a comment regarding Seamus on that type of video, haha. Oh boy, how the times have gone - he was the first (and actually my favourite) RUclipsr who created content in terms of videos concerning videogames. It all started with his L4D-Videos, back in the days, when he still had about 30k subscribers. Oh, good old times, haha.

agidyne967 He should be fine I Ash said that the surgery went well
It might be the lowest form of wit, but it is also the perfect way to interact with people that lie.
Sarcasm is a suicidal lie, and the speaker is the weapon a warrior of truth.
Practice safe sarcasm, use a friend
That's why the Brits are so fucking awesome at everything
i guess in a way, to be sarcastic you need to breakdown what someone said to you, think about the actual or normal response, quickly find its opposite, and say it in a confidant voice. Thats actually alot of thinking in a really short period of time.
being sarcastic or at receiving end of it would make you think of the subtext thus activating the creative region of brain with does not automatically correspond to smartness or intelligence. It does temporarily generate more brain activity but for a short burst also the whole concept of smart is subjective.
Me, sarcastic? Never.
demonstrations of power make you an alpha male.confident, dominant, assertive.

Also, I find some of the most brilliant people on the planet are NOT sarcastic at all, but are very straightforward. And the ones who have the highest intellectual accomplishments don't seem to be typically sarcastic, possibly because they are very self-assured and don't have anything to prove.
Sangwoo Sung Sometimes people do sarcastic not to be funny, but to ridicule and confuse others. From a psychological point of view, people who do sarcasm just to ridicule others have a bullying tendencies. Thus their actually insecure about their own intelegency.
Btw creating sarcastic jokes and receiving sarcastic jokes is whole different levels.
The ones who create the sarcastic jokes have the time to think, while the one who received it have to deceipher it in a meer second before being ridiculed.
Levar Mitchell IDK abt tht last part.I don't think it's a day that goes pass where I don't use sarcasm,I'm self assured nor do I have anything to prove, just part of my personality.I think it also depends on the person.
Intellectuals can't read between the lines. Because they're the most literal people you'll ever meet. Words are not meant for play. Play reduces our ability to introduce fresh perspectives. Our species have evolved to accept the one meaning assigned to every word. It enhances our cognitive flexibility.
@keiichi Maebara Punctuation is how reading gets complicated for very intelligent people in the youtube comment section who understand what it's like to read a post with no punctuation on the internet from a perspective of how I used to say it with a mind When you understand what i mean from the moment I cut the breathe intake here with a new sentence when I use a Capital letters are invented to annoy people who need to read things without capital letters of the usage of every word reduces the semantic understanding of how I was back when I was trying to explain what i meant about sarcasm because I think real people who have had a better time with the luck need to understand the validity of the statement as which was said earlier by the smarter man before me about why we need.
Agree. Sarcasm is anger based. No one makes a sarcastic comment when they are happy. Someone who prides themselves on being sarcastic is emotionally unhealthy and disingenuous which is part of poor relationships and quality of life. Yes everyone does it sometimes but constantly = unhealthy.

lreadlResurrected I was designated as "a throwback to the witches and horse thieves", as well as "the blacksheep".
I now wear a pendent around my neck that is a black sheep on a lovely black chain. It seemed appropriate, as the only thing representative of witches and horse thieves in my (Irish) family history would be a noose.
I used to be really sarcastic from my h.s. years until my mid-20s. My quips were razor sharp, but I found in my adult life too many people didn't get it, were hurt or were offended. So, I stopped verbalizing my sarcasm. But every so often, I find a sarcastic quip on the tip of my tongue ready to make a comeback.

What I've noticed is that people who claim to be highly sarcastic the hardest tend to think far too highly of themselves.

Which is why I try my hardest not to be sarcastic. It's just rude to imply your company is incapable of critical thought.
Besides that... I'm an artist and writer. So I wouldn't put much weight on this, lmao.

yeah, I've had alot of people be sarcastic to me, including some of my bosses. I get the feeling sometimes that they think I'm not very smart so I won't pick up on it. but most of the time I do. I just think it's mean and humiliating to the other person. Sometimes sarcasm can be funny but, not at the expense of hurting others. I think it's kinda if boring when someone is trying to be mean.
I know myself to be pretty dang sarcastic, but I honestly atleast try not to think too highly of myself
Its not always the intention to make someone feel small. Its usually to make them laugh and get a break from the monotony of the day. I understand if they were deliberately trying to make u mad or feel dumb, but if u feel the urge to let it every sarcasm get you upset then idk what to tell ya
Tbh I am sarcastic a lot of the time but I try to not be rude.

here's a contradictory statement: I'm sooo sacrcastic. Because in sarcasm language, you mean the oppisite, but you're sarcastic, so.... infinite regression?
I like to be sarcastic but 9 times out of 10 it just goes over peoples heads and they just think I'm dumb. :c
You are clearly being sarcastic in the wrong company; and that is indeed dumb. :o)
Well, sarcasm makes you come off as dumber than you think you are.
Last time I tried to be have a sarcastic conversation with a total stranger , I gained someone who wishes death for me.
😂
Yeah, if I would do the same if a stranger is being passive aggressive with me
Nope. Never. I'm not joking. I really have no skills. My brain is like a potato. Yay!
At one time, I was a sarcasm athlete.
When I observed it's effect over time, I found it pushes people away because it is a form of verbal jousting, competition, and it is fueled by anger, with spiteful overtones.
When I realized how angry and bitter I actually was, and how me foisting this anger with not-so-innocent sarcasm, was a way of dumping this poison on others... in an attempt to alleviate my angst... it doesn't work.
I have made the conscious effort to knock it off... yet occassionally, have to use it in self defense... then explain my decision to discontinue sarcasm, and why.
Is it really?
Also, question: If someone is sarcastic towards me and I pretend to take it literal and the other doesn't realize I'm being sarcastic about "being literal", does that prove them dumb or am I just too good?
This comes from a poorly done and biased study. The study called sarcasm the highest form of intelligence. They compared sarcasm to genuine, and other, not other jokes, referential humor, music, contemplating nuclear physics, or any other *activity*.
This is obviously extremely well done. It'd be stupid to name the study "The benefits of sarcasm". No ego masturbation here. Nevermind the ego juice on your computer. It was here before this video, _I swear_!
The study acts like being genuine is diametrically opposed to sarcasm. You can be genuine without communication, but you can't be sarcastic without communication. Sarcasm is a communicative act. It is not a state of being.
@Unlock Minds tbh I feel that if you know how to use sarcasm it doesnt mean you are a yerk
I have moderate to severe Autism but I'm very sarcastic. I don't have a full understanding of when even my friends are being sarcastic. It doesn't make me stupid, in fact, my IQ is 160.
Very interesting. I have a friend whom is very sarcastic but I have never seen many examples of his form of sarcasm, its very literal, and dry and in the "punch face" variety. A example is if I say "we will table this discussion for later". He will say something to the effect of "but I can't, do you want me to bring the table with me, I think its too heavy". on the one hand the way he does it shows how clever he is for words but at the same time it just gets the recipient more angry.
That is so my response. :D. The times people were pissed about my statements are over 9000. :D
It's not actually sarcasm though. More like a lame joke. Doesn't mean I don't like or make that kind of jokes as well, but I don't think they count as sarcasm.
Sarcasm is also a form of power and dominance. The person being told the sarcastic remark, may feel threatened or even determined to be smarter next time during a conversation. We are compelled as a species to want to be "right". Thus, any such remarks made against us, (be them friends or strangers) even if we take offense, might make us think differently next time.
Am I sarcastic? Nope, not at all. I am a completely genuine, sincere person every single moment of my humble life...
Congratulations Sherlock on solving yet another mystery.

Creative people, the ones invented computers and apps were never sarcastic. Geeks and nerds are always doing their jobs and don't thick too much about what people are and what they think.
People who think they're better in anyway than others do sarcasm which explains how dumb they are not realizing the fact that nobody's always perfect
nobody's perfect at all
Sometimes people do sarcastic not to be funny, but to ridicule and confuse others. From a psychological point of view, people who do sarcasm just to ridicule others have a bullying tendencies. Thus their actually insecure about their own intelegency.
but are you American? because although i dont think highly of myself, i know that anyone with the sense of humour of an American is most likely gong to be thicker than me. Or at least wont get my humour and think im being rude.

You shouldn't just assume that about everyone,I use sarcasm a heck of a lot,but I don't think of myself as a god compared to others, and I'm pretty sure that not all 'nerds and geeks ' act the same way

It may promote creative thinking, but it's mean; you're belittling / putting down the person you're speaking to, even if it's your friend e.g. "you look nice today" said sarcastically means, "you don't look nice today" (why would you say that? it doesn't actually help them-nor you-and may actually hurt them, even if they laugh it off). It's this attitude of _"I was able to detect something that you failed to detect, you inferior being; it's such an obvious truth, why don't you realize it?"._ So mean! And the arrogance... knowledge has a tendency to puff people up with pride, and it's not that you can't wield knowledge, but don't put others down with it. Use your powers for good.
• _1 Corinthians 8:1 (NIV)_
8 _Now about food sacrificed to idols:_ _We know that_ _“We all possess knowledge.”_ *But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.*
• _Ephesians __4:29__ (NIV)_
29 _Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths,_ _but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs,_ _that it may benefit those who listen._
When I red the title of the video I sooo did not expect you to be ironic in the intro...
With asperger's syndrome, I can tell from personal that I take things very literally, and when my mom and dad would use sarcasm, I would take them literally.
I hv a mild autism and I kinda hv troubles picking up abt it..... 😑 but I'm glad Im able to understand the sarcasm a bit better
So if I'm sarcastic enough in a conversation with someone that picks on my friends, then they punch me and I can punch them back. Then I wont get in trouble for punching first and he/she gets expelled and beat up. Win, Win to me.
That's a sophomoric conclusion gained through a flawed "study." They didn't test people's creativity after being encouraged to be genuine in a creative way.Sarcasm doesn't take much brain function-- it is always at someone's expense. A truly brilliant humorist will be able to make people laugh without hurting anyone's feelings and resorting to sarcasm is the easiest way for a wise fool to feel smarter.
What this guy said!
xMatteo SWAT
You misunderstand. We aren't saying that being sarcastic is "easy". Sure we all agree it takes some level of "intelligence". Our point is that it takes even more intelligence to be aware of an issue yet be accommodating and uplifting.
Dave, you missed the part where he said there were three groups tested for the same things? one group being sarcastic one group being genuine and one being neutral.
So yes... they did test creativity of the genuine people, but they found that the sarcastic ones were more creative. D News however realized that the only important facts were that the sarcastic people were more creative so they didn't tell you how the others did on the study.
Also, a "truly brilliant humorist" will be able to make people laugh at the fact that he's directly hurting their feelings and being sarcastic but they just don't care cause it's funny. Or he'll be able to make people laugh at a simple clean friendly joke. A truly brilliant humorist chooses a style and works it right, and for you to say that one style is "smarter" or "easier" than another is very ignorant.
+TheVariableConstant
"sarcasm is the easiest way for a wise fool to feel smarter"
Tell me again how nobody said being sarcastic is easy?
Matthew D
What? Could you rephrase your question?
By definition you have to sound like a jerk when you're being sarcastic. Otherwise it's just facetiousness- the nicer, soft spoken cousin of sarcasm. Sarcasm comes from greek meaning "to tear flesh" and then later "to speak bitterly". It is a form of derision. It's the difference between laughing with and being laughed at. By the way, this is how an actual sarcastic person tells you they're sarcastic- by calling you an idiot without actually calling you an idiot. Also a great irony of being sarcastic is that it's actual sincere- to suggest that someone is stupid through the use of sarcasm is one of the most sincere ways you can tell them that you actually do in fact consider them stupid.
Ive read a study that people who have sarcasm develop dementia earlier in life. I wouldnt believe in this bullshit VID. Its true people that express sarcasm cannot deal with reality because they continually vent negatively not creatively.
warpull well said
fucking ridiculous conclusion, im sarcastic a lot but i still have a firm grip on reality, just cus your sarcastic doesn't mean you spread negativity either. very late reply from me
Same for me,I don't use sarcasm as a an escape from reality,I am well aware that this might be how a select few use it,but definitely not the bulk of us
