      agidyne967 I certainly didn't expect a comment regarding Seamus on that type of video, haha. Oh boy, how the times have gone - he was the first (and actually my favourite) RUclipsr who created content in terms of videos concerning videogames. i guess in a way, to be sarcastic you need to breakdown what someone said to you, think about the actual or normal response, quickly find its opposite, and say it in a confidant voice. Thats actually alot of thinking in a really short period of time.

  • @arjunbais1

    being sarcastic or at receiving end of it would make you think of the subtext thus activating the creative region of brain with does not automatically correspond to smartness or intelligence. It does temporarily generate more brain activity but for a short burst also the whole concept of smart is subjective.

      Sangwoo Sung Sometimes people do sarcastic not to be funny, but to ridicule and confuse others. From a psychological point of view, people who do sarcasm just to ridicule others have a bullying tendencies. Thus their actually insecure about their own intelegency.
      Btw creating sarcastic jokes and receiving sarcastic jokes is whole different levels.
      The ones who create the sarcastic jokes have the time to think, while the one who received it have to deceipher it in a meer second before being ridiculed.

      Intellectuals can't read between the lines. Because they're the most literal people you'll ever meet. Words are not meant for play. Play reduces our ability to introduce fresh perspectives. Our species have evolved to accept the one meaning assigned to every word. It enhances our cognitive flexibility.

    • @teamtrees6169
      @teamtrees6169 4 года назад

      @keiichi Maebara Punctuation is how reading gets complicated for very intelligent people in the youtube comment section who understand what it's like to read a post with no punctuation on the internet from a perspective of how I used to say it with a mind When you understand what i mean from the moment I cut the breathe intake here with a new sentence when I use a Capital letters are invented to annoy people who need to read things without capital letters of the usage of every word reduces the semantic understanding of how I was back when I was trying to explain what i meant about sarcasm because I think real people who have had a better time with the luck need to understand the validity of the statement as which was said earlier by the smarter man before me about why we need.

    • @shelliepsyd
      @shelliepsyd 4 года назад +8

      Agree. Sarcasm is anger based. No one makes a sarcastic comment when they are happy. Someone who prides themselves on being sarcastic is emotionally unhealthy and disingenuous which is part of poor relationships and quality of life. Yes everyone does it sometimes but constantly = unhealthy.

    What I've noticed is that people who claim to be highly sarcastic the hardest tend to think far too highly of themselves.
    Ex., this comment section.
    Which is why I try my hardest not to be sarcastic. It's just rude to imply your company is incapable of critical thought.
    Besides that... I'm an artist and writer. So I wouldn't put much weight on this, lmao.

I get the feeling sometimes that they think I'm not very smart so I won't pick up on it. but most of the time I do. I just think it's mean and humiliating to the other person. Sometimes sarcasm can be funny but, not at the expense of hurting others. I think it's kinda if boring when someone is trying to be mean.

    At one time, I was a sarcasm athlete.
    When I observed it's effect over time, I found it pushes people away because it is a form of verbal jousting, competition, and it is fueled by anger, with spiteful overtones.
    When I realized how angry and bitter I actually was, and how me foisting this anger with not-so-innocent sarcasm, was a way of dumping this poison on others... in an attempt to alleviate my angst... it doesn't work.
    I have made the conscious effort to knock it off... yet occassionally, have to use it in self defense... then explain my decision to discontinue sarcasm, and why.

    This comes from a poorly done and biased study. The study called sarcasm the highest form of intelligence. They compared sarcasm to genuine, and other, not other jokes, referential humor, music, contemplating nuclear physics, or any other *activity*.
    This is obviously extremely well done. It'd be stupid to name the study "The benefits of sarcasm". No ego masturbation here. Nevermind the ego juice on your computer. It was here before this video, _I swear_!

    • @thesurvivorssanctuary6561

      The study acts like being genuine is diametrically opposed to sarcasm. You can be genuine without communication, but you can't be sarcastic without communication. Sarcasm is a communicative act. It is not a state of being.

A example is if I say "we will table this discussion for later". He will say something to the effect of "but I can't, do you want me to bring the table with me, I think its too heavy". on the one hand the way he does it shows how clever he is for words but at the same time it just gets the recipient more angry.

    Sarcasm is also a form of power and dominance. The person being told the sarcastic remark, may feel threatened or even determined to be smarter next time during a conversation. We are compelled as a species to want to be "right". Thus, any such remarks made against us, (be them friends or strangers) even if we take offense, might make us think differently next time.

    It may promote creative thinking, but it's mean; you're belittling / putting down the person you're speaking to, even if it's your friend e.g. "you look nice today" said sarcastically means, "you don't look nice today" (why would you say that? it doesn't actually help them-nor you-and may actually hurt them, even if they laugh it off). It's this attitude of _"I was able to detect something that you failed to detect, you inferior being; it's such an obvious truth, why don't you realize it?"._ So mean! And the arrogance... knowledge has a tendency to puff people up with pride, and it's not that you can't wield knowledge, but don't put others down with it. Use your powers for good.
    • _1 Corinthians 8:1 (NIV)_
    8 _Now about food sacrificed to idols:_ _We know that_ _“We all possess knowledge.”_ *But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.*
    • _Ephesians __4:29__ (NIV)_

    That's a sophomoric conclusion gained through a flawed "study." They didn't test people's creativity after being encouraged to be genuine in a creative way.Sarcasm doesn't take much brain function-- it is always at someone's expense. A truly brilliant humorist will be able to make people laugh without hurting anyone's feelings and resorting to sarcasm is the easiest way for a wise fool to feel smarter.

      Dave, you missed the part where he said there were three groups tested for the same things? one group being sarcastic one group being genuine and one being neutral.
      So yes... they did test creativity of the genuine people, but they found that the sarcastic ones were more creative. D News however realized that the only important facts were that the sarcastic people were more creative so they didn't tell you how the others did on the study.
      Also, a "truly brilliant humorist" will be able to make people laugh at the fact that he's directly hurting their feelings and being sarcastic but they just don't care cause it's funny. Or he'll be able to make people laugh at a simple clean friendly joke. A truly brilliant humorist chooses a style and works it right, and for you to say that one style is "smarter" or "easier" than another is very ignorant.

    By definition you have to sound like a jerk when you're being sarcastic. Otherwise it's just facetiousness- the nicer, soft spoken cousin of sarcasm. Sarcasm comes from greek meaning "to tear flesh" and then later "to speak bitterly". It is a form of derision. It's the difference between laughing with and being laughed at. By the way, this is how an actual sarcastic person tells you they're sarcastic- by calling you an idiot without actually calling you an idiot. Also a great irony of being sarcastic is that it's actual sincere- to suggest that someone is stupid through the use of sarcasm is one of the most sincere ways you can tell them that you actually do in fact consider them stupid.
