  • We're extremely excited to launch #FCSouth with Baradwaj Rangan's FaceTime with filmmaker Vetri Maaran. Here they chat about Visaaranai, a film that went on to become India's official entry to the Oscars & what it took to carry out an Oscar campaign that often costs more than the film's production budget!

I'm only halfway through and this is already the most informative of all filmperson's interviews I've ever seen. This gives so much insight into what really goes behind film promotions for international awards and how only making a brilliant film will never be enough. It forces you to question: is it all even worth it?

It does, doesn't it? There's a dark side to the Oscar story, and we are happy Vetri Maaran spoke to us about it.

Thanks Baradwaj for this interview. Filmmaker Vetri Maaran explained the process of reaching the Oscars quite well. And yes the culture which draws west to such movies. Have no knowledge of the 4 languages from the South. The explanation on sound mixing for the Oscars is notable. Got a new headphone last weekend and that was useful today.

And who else could be a better choice for this initiative than Baradwaj Rangan? Thank you so much for kick-starting this with Vetri Maaran. 'Visaaranai' is one of the films I venerate the most.

Arshad Mohammed We don’t have to see The Oscar as yard stick for our craft. We get just 2 or 3 slots for best foreign movie category which means they are primarily for American movies.
I’d rather say we should have something similar in our country too. National awards lately have been become a joke now.
