“Invisible Roots” focuses on Afro-Mexicans (not to be confused with “Blaxicans”) living in Southern California.
While there have been numerous documentaries on the African presence in Mexico, little in way of research exists on Afro-Mexicans who have immigrated to the United States, largely to Southern California, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. “Invisible Roots” works to encapsulate the Afro-Mexican perspective into a Southern California context.
We welcome everyone to this page: Black, Mexican, Afro-Latinos, Whites, Hebrew Israelites, everyone and welcome all opinions, but what you are not going to do here is leave racial slurs and disrespect another race. Comments with racial slurs and blatant racial intolerances will be removed. Our video is meant to bring people together, question the standard, challenge the standard and share new insights. afro-mexican are among the most beautiful people in the world do not let anyone sway you away from your heritage the greatest enemy amongst melanated tune people is that we have lack of Education once you educate yourself as to who you are you are going to be so proud the best weapon you can have against anyone that tries to degrade you make you feel bad hate on you because of your skin tone is education because once you get the knowledge of who you are it is a weapon against any ignorance that comes your way God has blessed you with the melanated tone for a reason once you understand that you will be proud you will understand that God has chose you specifically to wear that tone so that he can identify his people clearly when he comes back do not let anyone tell you anything different education education education

What separates you is YOU! Your culture and language is what binds you. When raised in USA, you absorb yet another cultural element. You decide where you want to be and the only limitations you create are your own. Don't be around anyone who wants to paint you into a corner because of YOUR skin tone or language. @Educate Now Excuse me? What are you talking about? I wrote the above statement. Your name is "Educate Now?" Really? And, who are you educating with your foul mouth? Haven't you heard that you catch more flies with honey? Again, you call yourself "Educate Now" and you're saying that Hebrew Israelites are Afro Latinos, but isn't it the other way around? If you don't like what's being shared on this page, you can simply see yourself off.

    • @Mct2868

@Educate Now And, you're talking about God as in The Most High? Yah?
Read the comment I just left for another person. But, I'm am so lost?! Please! I keep Torah. Don't try me.
Thank you for your comment. I am the filmmaker and am very familiar with Hebrew Israelites. There is NO such thing as a Black Hebrew--totally a misnomer. I in fact know my history, as do many of the people you are admonishing. West Africa is comprised of many of the original Hebrew Israelites as is the Congo and other parts of Africa. If you need some historical references and information regarding this, please let me know. But, before you tell us who we are, you need to learn history, including Biblical history. African-Americans and Black Mexicans, Dominicans, many Puerto Ricans, as well as Brazilians and all Black people whose ancestors were on ships during the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the Arab Slave Trade, which predates the TSA, are the SAME people but just got dropped on on different shores. Ancient text says that Israelites will be spread throughout the 4 corners of the earth. Thank you for reading.

That’s because they don’t teach the black history of Mexico in Mexico so most Mexicans think these are immigrants from Across Central America. You can’t really blame the mexican people you have to Blame the government of Mexico that refuse to educate the people of Mexico. The government can also help them through sports. They never go into those communities to look for futbol talent or athletes talent to represent Mexico. I remember one time we were in Guerrero and we saw some little Afro Mexican kids playing futbol and they were really good. Even this older guy that were watching them with their coach told us lot of these kids can make the Mexican national team but they refuse to come look at them. The coach said he’s been coaching them for a long time and if he had funding he would take them to tournaments.

Because we consider all citizens as Mexicans from the country of Mexico, it is not the USA cultural mentality. Same thing in Costa Rica my Costa Rican Friends says,: "we in Costa Rica do not see them as Black " Birth certificates as well as official registrations in Spanish Speaking countries do not identify nor denote people by their race many people are mestizos. In Nigeria people are not identifying as black by their race, nor in China, their official records do not identify their citizens as of The Chinese race. The US is the only one that does tag people by race because it was of extreme importance to them to segregate people top insure the purity of their race therefore, why should other countries go tag people by US Standards, the world does not revolve around the US beliefs and standards. JP according to your upbringing and what the US White man instilled in you it is sad because it is your own reality not that of Spanish Speaking Countries.

What SUCKS is that I was raised Creole and Mexican, but was told my biological grandfather isn't Mexican but was Scottish but they BOTH were a piece of shit. I speak fluent Spanish because I wanted to PRESERVE what was left in my family. I am connected to all sides (biological father (Black and possibly Asian), 2 stepfathers (Black Cuban, Black West Indies), biological grandfather's side (Scottish/ German) and step grandfather's side (Mexican). My mom has an identity crisis because of the lies she was told, BUT I know that I did the right thing by not sugarcoating my background anymore. I was in BSU and MeCHa and they BOTH made me feel like I didn't need to be there in High School. Two groups I thought would back me up. I'm happy with me and will get to the bottom of my ethnicity but I LOVE this trailer. Hits home, for sure.

But a large portion of Mexico is mestizo which is a mix of African, European, and Indian blood. My family and the majority of the people I know in Mexico are either tan, black, or usually more commonly brown.

That is only in the state of veracruz and the state of guerrero.other states are from european, french, holland, irish, spaniards dominate and indegenous of many tribes including the Aztecs pure and mixed with european which is called mestizo and if it's spaniards,african-indegenous aztec tribe is called mulato. Also we have the. Cherokee, apache and other natives from the region of north america which is México in the old days when Cali,California, arizona, nevada, colorado, new mexico, texas, mississipi, oregon and all those states that belong to México, alot of those native indians recognize México their real country when the Aztec Empire ruled but then came the spaniards and everything change, spanish empire took over and they ruled the same Aztec Empire through divide and conquer.Shit i can go on.Spaniards took gold, silver, bronce, every exotic fruit and vegetables and the best meats, the best plants of every kind, exotic wild animals. They took the best of the best that the royal Aztecs ate and drank.Going back to spain, the spaniards just as they brought african slaves to the continent of America, especially to México(North America), the spaniards took a mexican army tribe with them to conquer other continents, in this case Asia, that's where they arrived to the islands of what is now filipinas( in honor of king felipe)and the capital of manila was established. Many filipinos were mixed with alot of mexican army tribe and spaniards, Guam was also in the conquered by spaniards at the same time being colonized establish by spaniards in great sectors of the Asian islands.Saludos, Viva México!!!

I have been told by "real mexicans" that there are no black influence in Mexico so I am not really Mexican with my green eyes and curly hair even though my family has lived there their entire life. My family cousin Francisco Gonzalez was the man who wrote the national anthem, if that doesn't qualify us as a Mexican then...
It's sad how so called "real Mexicans" act like white europeans do towards minorities and discriminate against their own kind.

It is because the "real Mexicans" favor more indigenous features, experienced racism daily in Mexico, bought into the Kool-Aid that white skin equal racial superiority, and acts out their resentment of all of this by deciding who is a real Mexican and who isn't. It exactly the same as how many Whites in the U.S. deem who is a "real American" and who isn't. Both are equally ugly and repugnant attitudes.

Please stop saying these people are black Hebrews. They are simply descendants of Spaniard, Indian and Africans ancestors. It is so sad that African Americans are saying that these people are Black Hebrews. Learn your history, Black people in this part of the New Work descend from slaves from mostly West Africa, Compare the culture of blacks of the New World to West Africa, very similar in many ways.

That is their oral story and they do not accept any other version. people from the Caribbean Islands who were brought as Slaves to work in the West Indies have always journey to nearby new land to settle down, There is a large group of Garifuna Africans settled in Guatemala, Nicaragua Honduras and Costa Rica, they look for tropical land where they can thrive.
