Only way those people will be happy is if Cejudo lost. If the fight went on and he KOd Cruz stiff the next round those same people would be saying “Cruz was too old he didn’t look like himself”. They literally wouldn’t be able to make their mind up if Cruz is old and washed up or if he’s gonna come back and win the fight lmao.

Lol it doesn’t work that way. You can basically apply that logic to all fighters.
Nick Van Tinteren it’s different. There is a difference between being stagnant ( Alexander Gustafson on the floor eating more of less shots BUT NOT moving) and then moving to regain position. You have to afford an opportunity for the fighter who is intelligently fighting (in that position Dom either can use his hands to curl up which case he ref will stop it, or use his hands to get up). IMO, it’s a TITLE fight. There is literally no harm in letting it go on 2-4 seconds more to reach an undoubtabe conclusion ESPECIALLY since there was 2 seconds left in the round

Agreed man. I didnt see the finish multiple times but from the one or two times I saw I didn’t have a problem. It’s easy when emotions are high in the moment to want to go out on your shield and I get being a competitor but long-term this man could’ve saved you serious damage and longevity. Cejudo is an animal especially at 135, getting your head used as a speed bag isn’t a fun way to go out. Same way I have no problem with the dillashaw stoppage

There is a time difference between "I have decided to stop the fight, I am moving in to stop this fight" and when he actually gets in the way, the decision was made when Cruz ate 12 unanswered shots, the one second delay between when he made the decision and moved in was the one second Dom started to get back up. Too late, you let yourself get hit too much, you let yourself get to a point where a ref decided to stop it. So you recovered after the decision was made? That's about 5 shots later than you should have recovered

Each fighter and their corner people talk with their ref back stage for 5-15 minutes. They explain all the rules in-depth, and they have a back and forth about stoppages, verbal taps, if your corner will throw in a towel or if the ref should stop early and all that.
Like if I was fighting, I might say “if you (talking to my ref) think I’m out on my feet at all, stop it” as opposed to “I want to be knocked out cold.”
(This is from an MMA expert I asked about the stoppage and Cruz's comments, not my own words.)

The referee’s job is the safety of the fighters and making sure rules are followed. The clock has nothing to do with it to the Ref. He can’t let a fighter take damaging shots when he is not defending himself just because there is only 20 seconds left. With that said Cruz was working to improve his position and the fight should not have been stopped at that time.

If you watch the finish in slow motion you can see the where Peterson decided to stop the fight. It's understandable because dom did take a punch that caused his face to hit the ground. But he bounced back so fast that he was almost up by the time Peterson stopped it. In my opinion, it's an understandable stoppage, but the fight could have kept going.

If you're getting punched on the feet and intelligently move back the ref wont stop the fight, so he probably shouldn't have on the ground either.

Now I like both fighters so I’m not tryna sound biased, but the thing with TJ though was that he got dropped 3 times in the first 32 seconds, which makes it justified. In this last stoppage there were literally 2 seconds left in the 2nd round, might as well have not stopped it at all imo.

Andrew Clarke he held accountability for that.. he’s just saying he was on his way back to his feet with 10 or so seconds until the end of the round. Also if you watch the replay, only about 5-6 of those shots actually landed - it wasn’t like he was getting hit with bombs. All in all, I think it was slightly early but not too upset about it
