      Funny he wants to quote "I put everyone's head on the table like Conor"...Yet when Aldo pulled out on Conor under 2 weeks, Conor still fought Mendes, because he realizes it's a business and you need to give back to gain, just like any job...Ortega WAS doing his job, and was rewarded in return by the UFC, highly promoted, bonuses, and a short notice #1 contender shot with everything to gain. Then the guy gets an opportunity to show he is willing to give back to the company, and he doesn't blink not to...The UFC is bigger than Dana, and a lot of people would have benefitted including Ortega from the money he could have brought in fighting on the biggest card of the year....Seriously I don't understand people's work ethics. Since when is being "real" picking fights early into your career, and being popped for roids...I'm sure everyone does it is a good excuse.

      Well said Andrew let's hope they get it right. To the other Gentleman who's taking over? We know Ariel. BYM podcast is getting better and makes you laugh and not scripted (like a 1 sided phone call). Joe R good ufc podcasts. Also snippets of news from there sources and when they don't have much they use clips from the above podcasts. I don't see any better fighters than in the UFC. Have you some youtube links to better fighters and shows maverick also podcasts. I will stick with the A man in THIS podcast and B man Mr BISPINGS and his BYM PODCAST 💡🔊📲👌 ✌

      Michael Edwards I think what Ariel should do is continuously do the MMA hour but just do it on his RUclips channel so he can say whatever he wants and do whatever he wants and have live guest. not do guests over Skype kind of like The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast it would make it more fun and exciting if guests were in person Ariel as we all know is the best damn MMA journalist I believe Ariel. And Luke Thomas are the best to MMA Journal is out there

      It's just ironic because Ortega got this title shot from someone sacrificing their title shot to fight him from a pull-out....So by his standards if Frankie thought the same way, he wouldn't even be #1 contender yet...

      Miguel Chavez, Dana White has a Marine Drill Instructor’s mentality when it comes to doing business with his fighters, specifically when he gets super-pissed over his fighters doing blatantly stupid bullshiggidy. Brian, as I said previously, did what he needed to do when it comes to his MMA career. Dana chewing a fighter’s ass and whatnot is business; it’s not personal. If anyone gets that on a subconscious level, especially with what his mentors instilled in him since the beginning, it’s Ortega.

      Ortega should’ve taken that fight. If you want to consider yourself a dominant champ you should be confident that you can beat any contender. Jeremy Stephens wins another fight and he could easily be just as considered for a title fight as Ortega.

McGregor took a fight against Nate DIaz on short notice not even for a belt when his original fight was for the lightweight title. When the contract is signed you should fucking fight. Khabib fought against Al on super short notice because he lives up to his word. Guys like Ortega are clowns, tough guys that talk about stepping up but fold like little girls when the time comes.

      Tyrone Mcdonald, that on top of the fact that with what just happened with Holloway and how many times he has pulled out in the last 12 months; realistically we won't see him back for at least 4-5 months and then a camp on top of that. I guarantee you there is going to be an interim title shot between Ortega and someone else before Max is even back. IF the Ufc is even going to gift Ortega that. Back to the prelims for him

    Tbh this makes me respect more Conor more because he been in Brian’s position numerous times and stepped up to save the card like when Aldo pulled out and he had to fight chad which was a dangerous fight for him stylistically and when Rda pulled out he saved the card and fought Nate at 170 because Nate couldn’t make 155 In that amout of time. Stepping up last minute does show that the fans that payed come first bad match up or not. Still respect to Brian and Jeremy is a dangerous last minute fight to take. But Remember Frankie stepped up to save the card and fought Brian after Max pulled out. Stepping up last minute is a sign of love for the fans win or lose you paid so I’ll be there no matter what

I don’t think Jeremy Stephens is normally a threat, but if ur emotionally down then there’s a bigger chance you’re going to lose. He was smart not taking it. He’s always shown up so he’ll eventually get his shot.

  • @Tenchigumi
    @Tenchigumi 6 лет назад +4

    I think the difference between Edgar and Ortega's mindset is this: Frankie's been to the top. He's already a legend. He paid his dues, and win, lose or draw, people will still respect him for taking a high-risk fight on short notice. You can tell people still love him now for taking that fight, despite losing.
    Ortega, on the other hand, is still just slightly above "hot prospect." He's never been to the top. He's not a legend. Whereas Frankie's fought countless championship bouts, Ortega's never even seen a championship round in the UFC. He's relying solely on hype and momentum to gain these life-changing opportunities, and a single high-profile loss can derail all of that.
    The reward of winning against Stephens would pale in comparison to losing his championship opportunity to Stephens, and it would be incredibly hard to regain the momentum. If he lost, some folks might temporarily laud him for being "down to scrap," but for a prospect, that kind of praise fades quick, whereas the negativity of those who would call him "reckless" would last much, much longer.

    • @tacotacotington3638
      @tacotacotington3638 6 лет назад

      Anthony Ha How do you think Edgar got to the top? By cherry picking fights? Nope. Ortega will Never be a legend. He already put himself two fights away from a title fight and in Danas fuck you list. If ortega should happen to take a 2 fight losing streak he will prob be cut.

    Brian Ortega's a smart dude, he did the right thing! Why throw away a shot at the title to fight Jeremy Stephens with 3 days notice? Max will be recovered from this soon especially if it is water toxicity and they could literally fight on the next card if the UFC wanted that to happen... So Brian did the right thing by not letting the UFC pressure him into taking a bad fight with nothing to gain...

    I am not a big Ortega fan or anything but in all honesty he made the right decision. Why would he risk everything for a short notice fight against a power puncher like Stephens? It's not his fault that Holloway wasn't able to make it, especially since that wasn't his first time doing so.

    Totally agree. He’s not obligated to take a last minute replacement let alone being at the top of the division which means no matter what the replacement is gonna be a top contender and dangerous fight no matter what. Obviously people love the attitude Conor used to do where he fought anybody anywhere anytime and fighters DO get more respect for that but if Ortega waits for max and wins the title, this will all be forgotten. Now if he takes another fight before max then it will look bad cause he specifically said he wants to wait for max for the title shot.

  • @mrbjj1016
    @mrbjj1016 6 лет назад +30

    Tough to be upset with Ortega. If he takes the replacement fight he could loose his chance at the belt. Might never get another. On the other hand, the interim belt is still a belt and he is a fighter after all and fighters fight. Tough call. Think the weight cut is what Max was having issues with, nothing else. Water poisoning; give me a break.

It’s his choice to turn down Stephens. But if he’s claiming saving the card isn’t his problem, then I don’t see why Dana shouldn’t say the same thing about paying for his training camp.

      Water poisoning from water loading.. That is actually considered weight cutting issues. An imbalance of magnesium,calcium ect due to excessive water will eventually show stroke like symptoms. The man is 5'11 and walks around at 180+, for damn sure he needs to be careful. Hopefully this fight lines up again.

    If a fighter does a full training camp and makes weight, then it's the 4 billion dollar UFC that should have to take the hit for at least the regular agreed purse (w/o win bonus) for fighter. Not to pay a fighter anything after 6-8 weeks of training from no fault of their own is ridiculous. Cheap bastards. I don't blame Ortega for not wanting to potentially lose or get injured against another fighter that offers him nothing. The interim belt is shit. It's like a happy meal prize these days.

    If you're a fighter you're there to fight. If you truly believe you earned #1 contender and will be a champ; there is no reason you wouldn't take the fight versus someone else also not prepared for your style whatsoever. The reality is he doesn't believe he is #1 contender because he isn't. Frankie didn't respect Brian's standup and was caught. The fact he is even being asked to be compensated when he clearly could have taken the fight against someone else less talented than Holloway is some pussyshit.

      ReadyOK Well he got to wjere he is by fighting anyone at anytime. I'm not sone fake UFC McGregor fan like the newbies from the woodwork. I've been diehard UFC since UFC 1 in 93. McGregor did step up all the time though. He fought Mendes. He went up to 170 to fight FIAZ to save a card. Yeah he hasn't defended and he needs to before ANYONE says he's one of the best to do it but on his rise he fought whoever. Thats a fact. Now I agree with ya cause he does need to gight again if he wants to go down as one of the best to do it,but during his rise he fought whoever. That's just a fact. He trained for Aldo thst whole time and when Aldo dipped out he took on a totally diferent style of opponent with Mendes. Then wjrn Dos Anjos dipped out he jumped up to 170 for Diaz. He deserves respect during his rise. People just hate on him cause of his mouth and success. Period.

    • @readyok8230
      @readyok8230 6 лет назад +2

      I commend Conor for fighting on short notice. But one, dont pretend he wasn't in a unique position. For example, when khabib dropped out, Tony Ferguson's salary was cut in half and he was still expected to save the card. Do you think Conor ever got that kind of treatment? Of course not. If the ufc would compensate fighters fairly in these situations, more fighters would take short notice fights. But the UFC is too cheap and would rather throw their own fighters under the bus. Thats why Conor did the things he did, because he had the full backing of the UFC. He was always in a win win situation. Second, my first comment was suppose to show that even fighters like conor are not "real" fighters when the circumstances are not in their favor. I dont hold it against him. I really dont, but stop pretending conor did what he did without acknowledging he had MASSIVE help from the ufc and was always well treated and well compensated. He always had HUGE incentive to take these short notice fights.

      Pouya M what does an interim title give him that he doesn't already have? A shot at the featherweight champ when he can fight next, Ortega earned his shot, he worked hard this camp for one specific fighter. Why take the risk when there is no real reason for him to do so? He's the most legit contender right now in the FW division and any fight fan knows that this will be worth the wait

  • @MacStatic
    @MacStatic 6 лет назад +3

    Most agree with T city. However there are still fans who are upset. He said he understands how he let everyone down who paid, but if he doesn't take care of himself then there won't be another opportunity to fight for those same fans for the title without waiting a long time. If he can get booked quick then this will all be done and over with. Once he wins all will be forgiven - even though most agree with him and understand his decision.
    He sounds so depressed for not fighting for his fans and family. I was never a big fan of his but I'm most certainly am now after watching him stand his ground. It's easy to take a fight on short notice for a quick short term gain, but a loss is a long term failure, and getting booked for another title fight has more security for his legacy, and financial well being.

    Ortega just lost me as a fan. It’s amazing how when the shoes is on the other foot these guys act all brand new. Woodley complained about rankings when he thought Wonderboy was going to jump ahead of him after we ko’d Hendrix. Then flat out refused to fight him. Bisping did it once he became champion fighting everyone but high ranked competition. Now this dude with turning down a short notice fight. He’s only in the spot because Frankie accepted to fight him. Yeah he’s on a win streak but he also tested positive his first fight in the UFC. I feel like if you turn down a fight against a guy who probably has been training then you’re scared. I guarantee Stephens wasn’t in 5 round shape not to mention having to cut weight and yet he turned it down on a full camp. Like come on bro... His rationale is whack. Chael said it best, if you’re in the same division you’re going to have to fight the guy anyway you might as well get it over with and catch him while he’s out of shape then have to deal with him in shape.

    • @warrior2389
      @warrior2389 6 лет назад

      Prodigal_Son X I don’t think he gives a shit about you, I think he prefers what his coaches and friends think. He’s an athlete, not a brawler. In boxing if the opponent falls off you don’t get a new opponent in three days, you reschedule the fight

    • @trynottooverthinkit
      @trynottooverthinkit 6 лет назад

      Brawler or athlete he’s got to fight Stephens at some point. Strategically his coaches made an error. There is no guarantee that he’ll even get the shot when Max comes back. It would’ve been smarter to take the fight win or lose the UFC owes you one. Look how many times Frankie and Fabre have gotten shots despite coming up short so many times. They’re fan favorites who take on challengers at any given time.

    • @readyok8230
      @readyok8230 6 лет назад

      and where did that get Chael? Not only that. That line of logic is for weak minded individuals. No wonder you fell for it. So you're telling me you rather see one fighter destroy a fighter that is complete unprepared and out of shape? Would you rather not see two fighters that prepared for each other fight and are ready to show their best versions of themselves to the world? I would rather prefer the latter. You're thinking like an emotional fanboy. And believe me, Ortega is better off without you.

    • @trynottooverthinkit
      @trynottooverthinkit 6 лет назад

      I’m not a fanboy one bit but the whole premise on which the UFC was founded on is proving that you’re the best fighter. Either you are or you’re not. Turning down short notice fights doesn’t help his career in the long term. It drastically decreases his chances of future title shots if he’s unsuccessful against Holloway. You look at guys like Faber, Florian, and Edgar. They fought any and anybody and look how many opportunities they’ve gotten.

    • @SparkyTakedown

    Why bother accepting a fight for Jermey Stephens? If he lost he was gonna probably be at least 2 fights away from another title shot and if the UFC wants to punish him for not taking the fight then he'll fight the winner of Aldo/Stephens. I like Holloway but if it really was water toxicity(still not sure that it was) then its Holloway and his camps fault this fell through.

    • @AgentGunner
      @AgentGunner 6 лет назад +4

      MMA math doesn't work, so being confident that you're a champion level fighter means nothing. Frankie Edgar took a fight against Ortega when he had a title shot lined up and now he's got nothing to show for it except that his fans continue to love him for being a badass, which he is. If you're not looking for the shortest path to the title then you're playing yourself and taking more fights then you need.
      Fact is Max Holloway and his camp had one job and that was to make weight, but he was pulled because he gave himself water toxicity. If you can be upset at Brian Ortega then you better be more pissed at Holloway because Ortega doesn't need to please the casual fans that hold him responsible for the mistakes of another fighter.

    • @readyok8230
      @readyok8230 6 лет назад +2

      Dpplm The only fans he lost are the cacual just bleed fans that couldnt care less about him. If anything, thats a win for Ortega. And ortega is not scared of anyone, only a simple minded keyboard warrior would believe that. He simple chose to hold on to his title shot and that is not a bad thing. If Max doesnt show up again, he is likely getting stripped. You cant fail to defend your title three times and still be called a champion.

      TheHitman5c, No, he lost just the fight fans. Read the comments.
      He retained all the drama and #poorMe fans. Connor also took the Mendez fight. If Brian stepped up to the plate and beat Stephens that night, he would have been more deserving of that title shot than the KO from Edgar. Should have been grateful for an opportunity to do his job. But he chose this route. Max pulling out was the reason he got this shot in the first place.

    Within ten minutes of Brian speaking his peace, I don’t blame him for not fighting Stephens in a interim title fight. He’s clearly emotional about making a decision with his team to wait for Holloway to be healthy and ready to defend the title against him.
    It’s easy for me - someone who isn’t a fighter - to say, “He should have taken a stand-in opponent, because Old School UFC and blah, blah, blah!” but it comes down to the fighters - especially stand-up guys like Ortega - to do what they need to do to keep their spot, and do nothing that they know to be stupid to jeopardize that.
    Regarding Ortega, the positive takeaway from his title challenge falling through is that every Gracie CTC instructor and student that went to Vegas to watch him fight took part in a free seminar at the Vegas CTC with Ortega and Ryron and Rener.
