Kind off because they also didn’t show much of Aurelio’s character or anything of his actual background. Apparently he taught his men when to stand back and why, he also knew it was better to let Santino feel superior etc he knew what he was doing allowing all that to happen. I do however I know what you mean he did look weak, he was an assassin I believe because he even received the txt like everyone else from the high table when John Wick had a bounty put on him by Santino. He looked worried and angry when he saw it, it was a short clip but it showed enough
Everyone's look weak under the table, even John kneel and gave his ring to the Elder. Where we can see in John Wick 4 he can kill even the Elder if he has to. They can kill anyone if they want, it's just they don't want war.

Aurelio's weakness was based on power position, even if Aurelio doesn't even know of the High Table's existence. What looks petty is Santino ripping off the coins. It's not cause he had more bodyguards but because while Iosef was a coward, who would never do anything, he knew santino wasn't threatening him only giving him a warning.
I think the reason this happened is because there are more body guards, and Aurelio doesn't know the capabilities of this person but he is aware this person might hold some sort of higher power that could get him killed at anytime.
Aurelio "did business" with Viggo Teresov. But once Aurelio's arrangement with Viggo expired along with Viggo, his business would be vulnerable to this sort of seizure.
Viggo would have objected to one of his suppliers being being taken over by a rival.

@blackche1580 it doesn't say what the task was, but they say what the results were. A metric f ton of bodies and the foundation for one of the most powerful families. Whatever help he got from him was essential to him pulling off what is still considered impossible by anybody else.

Santino was much, MUCH higher up the ladder than the spoiled brat. Massive difference right there. Even after punching Iosef, he still spoke to Viggo with respect and reverence. Santino is higher up the ladder than Viggo. You don’t antagonise that.
It would be better if aurelio didn't mistake him for a customer and said they are working for his sister. Would show why santino wants to get rid of his sister.

Santino is one level down from the ruling body of the entire organization, miles above Viggos position. Aurelio didnt do shit because he would have died right there on the spot if he did. Santino is closer to the table than vigo. Aurelio knows the difference between powers and the justification that comes with it. Its like departmental fight with the managers and now taking that fight to the executives 1 level below the ceo and board.

I’m glad that the scene was removed from the film because it offers nothing to the story and ends up taking away from Aurelio as a badass.
The only way it could have worked was if it played into the High Table over stepping its bounds to tighten its hold over the criminal underworld (like a single world government). We kinda got a glimpse of that in movie 3 but was dropped afterward, so it doesn’t play into anything in the long run.
It was meant to establish Santino as more of a threat.

He didn't act different to Santino because of the Bodyguards, he acted different because Santino now actually sat at one of the heads at the Table. Aurelio is a member of the table. Viggo was not a member of the Table (which was why Viggo "asked politely" about Aurelio striking Iosef.) Aurelio ranks higher than Viggo, Santino ranks higher than Aiurelio.
Theres a MASSIVE difference between santino and yosef. 😂

It wasnt deleted in the theater version. I remember watching it after it came out to streaming. And wondered what happened to this scene. Always thought leguazimo needed more screen time.

This scene would've taken the focus off John Wick story and have to create another story about Aurelio. Glad it was deleted.
Do you know why there are so many deleted scenes from John Wick 2?
It already had a weird pacing (the real conflict starts at around 1 hour when the movie is a bit less than 2 hours), that weird opening sequence of John getting back his car which serves no purpose in the movie (with this scene it kinda would), would be interesting to see a director's cut with the deleted scenes.
Keep it rated R. Time issues, bad management, probably lots of things. The removal of some scenes can completely change the tone of a movie, which sucks sometimes.
The diffrence is he had a reason to hit Iosef's son. And Santino has a seat at the table, Iosef's son didnt.

Aurelio's henchmen just stand there and do nothing 😂 even in chapter 1 they outnumbered viggo's son and his friends and when Yousef's friend pulled out his gun on Aurelio his crew didn't do anything they could have pointed their guns at Yousef's gang protecting their boss

This scene would be unnecessary. I think this is meant to rile up John more since he wouldn't really have the motivation to kill Santino like in the first movie. But Aurelio is an assassin too. He could've at least tried to die than just be used as a chip against John. Also, when Santino betrayed John and when his sister showed respect to John by killing herself and just allowing John to end the pain is enough to keep the story going.

This was actually a great move, leaving this out. It's purely filler, as it does nothing but weaken our viewpoint of Aurelio and contributes absolutely nothing to the plot.
I imagine this scene was to set up santino's powerful status as a mobster, but they realised it wasn't needed after the fact which was the right call in my opinion
