My complaint regarding the triton is that doesn't come with any kind of cover at the back and no towbar included, when the competitors does. So adding 6k to the price for that is way to expensive.
Nothing frightens a Triton especially a D Max , my Triton is invincible it goes anywhere and I mean anywhere. I’ve added a duel snorkel and 285s on the rear 265s for the front it’s a beast.
as per my previous replies in the other video about this: - Ad Blue can be a pain in the rear end if you do extended highway towing, I had an Everest (3.2L 5cyl 6-speed auto AWD/4x4) and when ever I did extended highway speeds towing the SCR system would consume Urea very quakily and yes it did catch me out once as the warning message comes on with less than 3L and I was still some 200km from nearest town and then that local servo did not have ad blue and I knew from other experience do not switch the engine off as you cant restart without ad blue but he engine will run with out it until you refill. I want to correct Brett here, the Triton does not have a "twin turbo" set up, its actually a sequential turbo set up (similar to Ford 2L bi-turbo) in the set up has a smaller faster spinning turbo and a larger slower spinning turbo, re: both are not same size. The reason why Mitshibishi have done it that way is to reduce turbo lag and anyone who did drive the 2.5L / 2.4L single turbo remember what horrid TURBO lag those engines had in previous Tritons (boost would come on at 2,500rpm, like an old turbo petrol turbo), also there is no need for the 8-speed auto, the gearing is tall and the final drive is short so the engine which now has a very good torque curve (re: flat slab of torque) can stay in a taller gear and still provide the same level of power (remember torque x revs / 9549 = kw at flywheel) without the need to drop to lower gears as thus burn more fuel for no reason. As for suspensions and steering? both now have electric steering (eewww, prefer hydraulic steering bat that is a personal choice) and from what I can tell the Triton has better steering of the two, suspension wise both are double wish bone front and leaf spring at the rear, depending on spec, in the upper spec I would agree with Bret that the D-Max has the edge but is that really a thing in utes? Interior space is easily a win for Triton as is design and function (its the newer of the two), that said do you trust that Mitshibishi basically have a Nissan design with Renault electrics over proven GM/Isuzu gear? The trump card? the Triton has Super Select II, which allows for full time AWD, big major plus (even if it uses more fuel) but D-max has slightly better mechanical off road credentials even if Traction control is meh at best. Best advice? Go to dealerships and get them to give you a 24 test drive of each and then figure out which one you think will be the better of the two and then hammer hard on price when you negotiate to purchase, if the dealership plays hard you play harder and find a dealer that wants your business, tip: regional dealerships want your business more than metro ones. finally? Good luck.
Good afternoon all, a question for the channel. We do a lot of regional travel, and we’re considering replacing our trusty 2016 Outlander with a 4wd, so that we can get to some places the Outlander can’t get to. We won’t be towing. I like the look of the Triton, but I was wondering whether I might be better off waiting the Pajero Sport to be updated, as it’s likely to be more family friendly. Does anyone have thoughts on this?
The new MV triton will be a worthwhile upgrade, especially considering you travel. I'm currently averaging around 860km to a tank, with typical stop start peakhour traffic of a morning and afternoon in Brisbane 5 days a week. Without all of that, I would easily achieve over 900km to a tank. The new Paj sport is another 18+ months away at least, as Mitsubishi have only just announced the latest update for it. If you don't need the extra seats found in the Paj Sport, take a look at the Triton. But I imagine the new sport wont differ too much from the Triton
well the Outlander you have is at best On-Demand AWD, you could put on "All Terrain tyres" like Pirelli Scorpion ATR or Toyo Open Country ATR which will get you further along but without ability to lock in even 4x4 High (re: lock the transfer case) that can only take you so far, it will take you further but ground clearance and lack of low range will hurt in some regions. Since you probably want a new wagon style body then your options comes down to: - Pajero Sport (Mitshibishi) Super Select II (old) 2.4L single turbo diesel / 8-wpeed torque converter, 4x4 High/Low - Rexton (Ssangyong) 2.2L turbo diesel with I think 8-speed only has 4x4 High/Low , price - Fortuna (Toyota) Very good but also very lame Toyota, RWD with 4x4 High/Low tough as Hilux better ride - Everest (Ford) the best in class but PRICE is the worst here, also a finiky 10-speed auto that can let go but everything else is near spot on including RAW/AWD/4x4 High/Low Rear diff lock and V6 turbo diesel (again PRICE).
@@351tgvyes, we’re after a wagon style 4x4. Thanks for the options. I’ve had two long term Mitsubishi vehicles, and one ford. Had no problems with either Mitsubishi but did with the ford. So while I really like the Everest, as I like to keep my cars a long time, I feel more comfortable with the Pajero sport, or the Triton with a canopy. Not a fan of the Fortuner, it’s not really on my radar.
@@richardbuckingham4329 - Fotuner is fine in that its got that Toyota quality based on Hilux, yes there are issues but over all it will be ok, the Pajero Sport is great, the ride quality is at best wollowy and steering is slow (but its hydraulic based so actually has lots of road feel), the Parejo Sport has Super select II but you can drive in RWD if you want to save fuel, 4High (technically AWD) is something the Fortuner does not have. It then comes down to subjective things like interior and exterior looks, form over function , options vs features of both cars. I can see why the Everest is what it is to you, my one was the 1st gen never had any issues with it for the most part, it was hard on front brake pads as I did a lot of towing with it, and ad blue is a pain in the backside if you don't monitor it, todays Everest is great but expensive, that said Ford have ironed out most issues with the 10-speed and the AWD/4x4 set up is bullet proof these days, so are the electrics, where ford fails is after sales service.
Not sure if either of these have a throttle body? If not, well there is no real engine braking. As for what one to buy... I'd wait for a new totally new Dmax, this model feels so so old to sit in, drive and use day to day and I feel like you'd be disappointed when the new one turns up.
New Triton is day and night better than the DMAX in my opinion. In fact i believe its the best dual cab out, most reliable, great interior, the super select ii AWD feature is a game changer! Tritons just work.
@@tacuazinful Because Toyota are know for having DPF issues, FORD & VW keep having gear box and electrical issues (dashes turning off, cars going into limp mode), etc. Triton do not have any DPF or Motor or Gearbox issues. Going back many years I remember Jaguar using as a sales pitch that it now had a sealed electronic odometer. This was to combat the standard second hand car practice of winding back the clock. Which was simple to do. Within no time you could buy, in certain circles, an electronic gizmo that plugged in and allowed you to set the odometer to anything you wanted. Making it even easier to clock the car. There will soon be available something similar to disable all this non safety shit. So many people turn it off every time they drive. But it defaults back on. There needs to be a permanent override program to shut these systems down. For your own sanity and safety. The Ancap rating set up needs doing away with. Just re hashed information with a distorted twist anyway. Totally meaningless rating. Could I be bothered to add synthetic piss to my diesel. Not really. Do I want it sniffing it's own exhaust. Not really. But they all do. Which would I have out of the two. D Max if I had to choose. What one would I want. Neither.

@@drivingenthusiastaustralia The MR Triton did this and so does the MV Triton but you can engage diff lock in 4Hcl and it only disables traction control on the rear axel, so both the DMax and the MV Triton are the same in this regard.
it wont do that any more, even in 4x4 Low with diff lock the Traction control system is retained on the front wheels while the rears are done by the diff lock. that said the driver can still fully disengage traction control if they chose to.
Traction control is not anti slew/stability control. Off road say on the beach stability control is a burden (engine retardation and braking) - low range turns it off or you can turn it off with a button if in high range. Traction control cannot be turned off nor should it as it always helps even towing heavy loads in soft sand from stationary.
drove a new isuzu ute at work transmission seemed to be sluggish in changes, engine is gutless, and need a kidney belt for the suspension. Also driver assist is a pain. So far what ive seen of the new triton they have managed to stuff up the 4wd sytem, pass for both.
What have they stuffed up exactly, care to elaborate? My MV GSR works fine! I've seen people say this because of one Carexpert review. Except there's a lot wrong with that review. Unless you've had a first hand account, im genuinely curious as to how they managed to "stuff up" the system!
@@wagganationMFFM The same review that couldn't switch to 4H properly due to user error? For those familiar with the super select II system, the way Paul was trying to put it in 4H/4HLC was wrong firstly. I can basically replicate his "issue" with mine, but if I do it as you're suppose to, zero issues. Tested on the Mrs 2016 Paj sport also, same results. Secondly, those tyres that are outfitted from factory are arse, hardly an AT as they are claimed to be, a HT at best, and I can attest to them being atrocious in the wet on road, actually quite dangerous (soon to be replaced) - so with that in mind, wet and muddy (crap) tyres on the circuit, interestingly other ute reviews drier. You say the Tank made it on stock tyres - take a closer look at the tyre compared to that on the Triton, absolutely coated in mud. And as Paul mentioned in the review, freshly dug out circuit (makes a difference if you think about the reasons why) At the end of the day, I'm not here to convince you to get one, just want people to be a bit more open minded. My first preference is a Ranger (have owned two), I'm no Triton die hard fan, but these things are solid and more capable than they have been given credit for. I can only give my first hand experience and at the end of the day, you do sound convinced that it's not worth the buy and hey, that's fine! Every review should be taken with a grain of salt and understand they are subjective, but that carexpert review did an absolute disservice to the new Triton!
I've heard there are some cracking deals going for the BT-50 at the moment (in Australia). I'd be checking out that as well, yes. Pretty much the same vehicle as the D-Max; same platform, same powertrain etc.
As a 2021 Dmax owner looking to upgrade I test drove the new Triton. I thought acceleration was bit lacklustre but the outside design is hideous. Must be a strong contender for ugliest car of the year award. The Ranger V6 has too many issues. So I ordered another Dmax.
Cant argue with that. I turn it off though. Rumour is software update coming to address it or to allow it to toggle off completely. It's not a deal breaker though in terms of purchasing consideration. It's silly nonetheless.
@@nikpilly6747 everyone has tried that to no result. Unfortunate as I get what they were trying to do (achieve the ANCAP 5) but a bit a miss and not tweaked enough. if rumors are true, mitsu have heard the complaints and are working to dial the sensitivity down and provide an off toggle in the software. For the most part it isn't too intrusive, has it's moments, but still could be much better.
I have the new Dmax. It’s total junk. Unreliable, falling apart 5000km old. Awful safety package which is far more hazardous than a vehicle without it. Hilux is inferior. Very bad drive feel
Nothing frightens a Triton especially a D Max , my Triton is invincible it goes anywhere and I mean anywhere. I’ve added a duel snorkel and 285s on the rear 265s for the front it’s a beast.
@roberto0561 Can you drive ut to Tasmania?
@@robertbutler8004 Maybe he needs a snorkel extender....
Triton is by far the obvious overall winner here
as per my previous replies in the other video about this:
- Ad Blue can be a pain in the rear end if you do extended highway towing, I had an Everest (3.2L 5cyl 6-speed auto AWD/4x4) and when ever I did extended highway speeds towing the SCR system would consume Urea very quakily and yes it did catch me out once as the warning message comes on with less than 3L and I was still some 200km from nearest town and then that local servo did not have ad blue and I knew from other experience do not switch the engine off as you cant restart without ad blue but he engine will run with out it until you refill.
Go to dealerships and get them to give you a 24 test drive of each and then figure out which one you think will be the better of the two and then hammer hard on price when you negotiate to purchase, if the dealership plays hard you play harder and find a dealer that wants your business, tip: regional dealerships want your business more than metro ones.
finally? Good luck.
Wow very well explained for someone who doesnt know much about mechanics. Good video mate
@@Mochabear85Sounds good, thanks for the reply.
well the Outlander you have is at best On-Demand AWD, you could put on "All Terrain tyres" like Pirelli Scorpion ATR or Toyo Open Country ATR which will get you further along but without ability to lock in even 4x4 High (re: lock the transfer case) that can only take you so far, it will take you further but ground clearance and lack of low range will hurt in some regions.
Since you probably want a new wagon style body then your options comes down to:
- Pajero Sport (Mitshibishi) Super Select II (old) 2.4L single turbo diesel / 8-wpeed torque converter, 4x4 High/Low
- Rexton (Ssangyong) 2.2L turbo diesel with I think 8-speed only has 4x4 High/Low , price
- Fortuna (Toyota) Very good but also very lame Toyota, RWD with 4x4 High/Low tough as Hilux better ride
- Everest (Ford) the best in class but PRICE is the worst here, also a finiky 10-speed auto that can let go but everything else is near spot on including RAW/AWD/4x4 High/Low Rear diff lock and V6 turbo diesel (again PRICE).
I got a N70 Hilux. The best buy.
Most reliable??? On what base You can back up that opinion?
@@tacuazinful Because Toyota are know for having DPF issues, FORD & VW keep having gear box and electrical issues (dashes turning off, cars going into limp mode), etc. Triton do not have any DPF or Motor or Gearbox issues. Very reliable platform HENCE why Mitsubishi offer a 10 years factory warranty!
@@AlsAllAussieAdventures ok, i understand the negatives of Ford,VW and Toyota, but lets focus on Isuzu, how Triton, or in what aspects, is better than Isuzu
@@tacuazinful Done. It has much better Warranty (10 years warranty & 10 years capped price servicing), offers Super select ii so you can run the car in AWD on sealed roads which is a game changer if your towing or driving in the hills or wet surfaces. Interior & Exterior is nicer in my opinion, also has more power & torque, better fuel economy and the list goes on.
@@AlsAllAussieAdventures ok, I can Buy all of that, but more reliable than Isuzu, I don't think so
Going back many years I remember Jaguar using as a sales pitch that it now had a sealed electronic odometer. Neither.
BeMitsubishi Triton champion in rally off-road cross country Thailand Laos to Cambodia AXCR championship, Mitsubishi Triton is much better number One for long distance endurance,10 years warranty for Mitsubishi Triton, Isuzu D-MAX only 5 years warranty
Dmax has less power and torque but nearly a second quicker 0-100. And it’s heavier😂😂
Hahaha very funny lol TRITON only has 2.4 engine and D-MAX has 3.0 engine lol
Nc TECH of the TRITON tho but the ENGINE of ISUZU is long lasting it can stay 30 years
Unlike TRITON only life span of 10 to 20 years lolss
engine-D-MAX tech- TRITON
We don't care about weights we need bad ass trucks and engine as well
Nice analysis mate!
nice breakdown, cheers.
Pity about the looks of the Triton, the design is all over the shop.
Another excellent review have subbed
So which ute would you choose😊😊😊😊Thanks
Triton is the best ute
I love to drive Dmax with super select ll...
Dmax is not a generational jump yet! Wait till next year or year after all utes are going bigger meaning more room for passengers triton just did this but still I’d wait a tad longer until there next update as i believe we will see companies bring in hydrogen cross diesel in the near future
Dmax have new mode= Rough Terrain ,Triton nothing…Dmax win for sure!!!👍👍👍😊
Great review. Could you do the same with the Amarok/hilux? 🤙
Nice video! I'm curious if the Triton still turns off traction control for the front axle with the rear diff lock on.
I'm pretty certain all stability systems turn off when in low range with diff locks. I'll try and find a definite answer for you.
Isuzu same thing
Both vehicles have real wheel drum brakes while cheaper Utes come with disc brakes
drove a new isuzu ute at work transmission seemed to be sluggish in changes, engine is gutless, and need a kidney belt for the suspension.
@@Mochabear85 failed car experts simple test, first time ive seen a triton that didnt pass it!
@@wagganationMFFMon ATs on freshly dug surface, watch the other reviews. Hardly a solid review to be fair
@@shaun1900 the gwm tank did it on standard tyres lol
I think you misunderstood GCM VS GVM?
Triton all the way!
Triton 🙌🙌
2 t is the max these vehicles should tow, id be looking at 1.5 - 1.8 otherwise get a land cruiser.
Would you assume the same reaction to bt50? Aka Dmax?
I've heard there are some cracking deals going for the BT-50 at the moment (in Australia). I'd be checking out that as well, yes. Pretty much the same vehicle as the D-Max; same platform, same powertrain etc.
if you need two turbos your engine is inadequate
Triton is the same block and head as the previous model, so it bothers me that alone
Triton no ACC,I really need it,,,,
As a 2021 Dmax owner looking to upgrade I test drove the new Triton. I thought acceleration was bit lacklustre but the outside design is hideous. Must be a strong contender for ugliest car of the year award. The Ranger V6 has too many issues. So I ordered another Dmax.
I just went to see and test drive a triton, oh good lord its noisy. I guess its noisier than the dmax.
Triton all day everyday.
All depends if you’re gay or not, as to which one you’ll pick
Driver monitor in Triton is total 💩.
Cant argue with that. I turn it off though. Rumour is software update coming to address it or to allow it to toggle off completely. It's not a deal breaker though in terms of purchasing consideration. It's silly nonetheless.
It does turn back on every time you get back in I’d try putting a sticker over it see if that works
Me I look at what company's that are in courts like now that have shit on there customers been a few.
I have the new Dmax. It’s total junk. Unreliable, falling apart 5000km old. Awful safety package which is far more hazardous than a vehicle without it. The traction control is non existent hence they had to add the ROT mode switch so it wouldn’t get stuck on mild terrain. Would never consider an Isuzu again.
the triton is the ugliest truck to date😅
The rear overhang design of the triton looks ugly. Thanks to its short wheelbase.
Neither
Everything frightens Tritons heaps of rubbish uncomfortable and ugly
I’d skip both and just buy a ranger.
@markuswilmes3694 if your pocket is deep enough why not go for a RAM?
