Spent a lot of time with this model way back when I only had FC3. It's a tough plane, I remember taking 3 Strela hits and it was able to limp back to the airbase for a belly landing. No nose, no airbrakes, no chute, no gears, one flap, one engine, a fuel leak, and I believe most of my indicators were botched. I still hope that some day we'll get a high fidelity model.
YES I've been saying this for so long a full fidelity version of the su25.. they are so much fun even the low fidelity due to its load out and how tough it is
Few things I'd like to add: Regarding use cases for the A-G guided missiles: - S-25L - large HE warhead, very slow, fairly short ranged - buildings, tanks, bunkers - KH-25ML - smallest warhead, very fast, requires precise aiming - SAMs and vulcans - KH-29L - massive warhead, decent speed, good range - decent splash damage for unit groups, excels at hitting runways (huge craters) - The mentioned launch override comes in handy for the 25ML and 29L as if you can precisely aim from further out, you can fire out of SAM launch ranges. A few notes on jettison logic: - Pylons jettison starting from the furthest outboard towards the inner pylons. Lastly, the R-60Ms will jettison after all A-G pylons are dropped. - The S-25s leave behind launcher tubes that need to be jettisoned manually, place them outboard for the above reason.
Also: The Kh-25ML has absolutely _ridiculous_ range. With the Su-25T, I managed to land shots at over twice the maximum range as indicated in the HUD. And then there's the S-25O. That thing is ridiculous and needs no explaining as to why.
On ECW, an encounter with an angry Su-25 who's just been forced to jettison his shit on the way to his target is like the Great Filter for blufor fighter pilots. Getting accused of "hacking" by someone flying a Mirage as you patiently explain to him how even in afterburner, his jet has 6,000lbs less total thrust than yours, is a fucking life affirming experience.
Important point, I think. The A-10 has a substantial advantage over Bre’r Froggy in destructive capability, and would be a clear favorite if a capable fighter escort is available. However, if you are on your own the Frogfoot is a lot better at self defense against fighters.
Another small tip for those who need it: The sight glass (what would be the HUD glass in newer aircraft) can be raised and especially lowered if you find you're losing the crosshair off the bottom (for example, using bombs). I forget the name of the command, but it's nice to be able to move it down to see the crosshair.
This airplane especially remains the best argument in favor of low-fidelity airplanes for DCS. Its the airplane I have the most flight hours in-since it does not require requalification to fly after youve stepped away from it for a short time and it's very flexible. Along with the Su-25T and F/A-18, the Frogfoot has among the broadest catalogue of weapons and configuration options in the game. It even has a crude precision weapon meta-although it is entirely limited to unenhanced line-of-sight. The community needs to chill about everything in the game being high-fidelity tbh. It keeps us away from having more flyables in the game.
Nice video! Helped me to jump from the Su-25T to the original Su-25. As someone who plays DCS to have fun while still having a challenge (but not having to study manuals for hours), I'm glad the FC3 planes get some love on this channel
BTW: "full" flap is for takeoff *and* landing. The "half" flap setting is a manoeuvre flap setting used for turns or during attack passes, and even has a thumb switch on the throttle in the real plane (which can be seen ingame in the cockpit).
0:00 Definately my favourite FC3 plane. And I do prefer the original one... if only it was a full DCS module... the Su-25T and also the regular one in Flaming Cliffs set the first milestone for DCS to become a thing as that was the introduction of what I like to call an actual flight model - that doesn't let you feel like you're being towed on rails with an utterly awkward rudder and yaw modelling and the "magnetic" ground with the weird taxi physics the SFM "$#!+" has. I was so glad when the last playable SFM thing was turned into having an actual FM! :) - but back in the day, I was so blown away simply by sitting on the ground cold and dark and just dropping some boot onto the rudder pedals... it was taken straight from another world and would even let Il-2, which had an absolutely awesome FM for its time, look like some really old piece of junk. And then the takeoff roll, the liftoff, the overall flight dynamics, the high speed behaviour with the buffeting and the "mach tuck" that I first saw in the BI-1 of Forgotten Battles, and the landing which just felt right finally. Pure gold! **chef's kiss** 3:22 Perfect for throwing those down range at some Marines, they love those tasty things for lunch! :D 11:07 Isn't it just holding the thing down? That's what I've been doing at least :)
I already know how to fly this, but I enjoyed watching your tutorial to see if there were any things I didn't know. I'd love to see more tutorials from you, you've got a very approachable teaching style
This plane is so much fun, and the T version has a surprisingly amount of depth for a low fidelity plane. There are so many tricks you can do with the various systems that it's very rewarding to learn. Much more than the low fidelity fighters. All in all I would not say that the base version is better or more fun simply because the Vikhrs are so much fun to use, the TV module has lots of functionality for high precision bombing, and the SEAD pod is really good imo. You trade it for acceleration and speed, but it's a good trade-off situationally.
These are great! I fly the MiG-21 almost exclusively, but this inspires me to try some of my other modules. Lord knows Red could use some more people flying air-to-ground.
Really nice video with a lot of usefull informations for the coldwar Server and perfect timing! I just started this week with the SU-25 but only found videos to the SU-25T variant. So really appreciate this video.
Bought this during the sale and I’m really really enjoying learning about it. Once I learn more I can then use this on your server. This video was very helpful in speeding up the learning process. To people buying it, I’m finding the training missions they have with it quite useful as well.
I tend to stray away from air to ground on your server because I’m not sure how to find targets, how to be comfortably sure they’re actually enemy units when I do, and how to approach in a way that doesn’t just make me a free kill for SAMs. The Frogfoot looks super fun, and employing the weapons and everything isn’t that hard to figure out through trial and error. Where a guide would do really well is a bunch of live examples on your server from spawn, planning where to go, what to take, and running through the approach etc.
Yeah I typically try to do that but we are going to be radically changing how the server works so I am trying to future proof these tutorials so I don't have to re-do them all.
Tip for locking up targets In the hud. You can put the reticle in the general area of the target and lock, then when you slew the reticle while locked it is more precise to move and you can get a better lock.
The Frog was the first plane I flew in your Cold War server. It's quicker than the A10. However, you really need to blast in low to a target, launch rockets and get out. I find most of the time as soon as you're in the air, someone is hot on you and you have no time. Fly for 15-20 mins, get shot down, repeat lol.
@@skeire1 nowdays LKN airbase near Pilsen, they were not stationed here(only migs21 and 24 + hinds directly in Pilsen, but frogs were comming for the airshows and few times per year they flew over during training, so it was nit that common sight. Is the Frog your favorite DCS ground attacker or do you have another? I've only been able to fly on your server a few times but love that my two favorite FC3 jets (🐸 and Fulcrum-A) have been getting more love lately! Great tutorial, super informative, love this style. Edited to add: Navigating in the Frog, there is a bank of lights 5x across and 2x rows on the right console by your right knee.: cycles through enroute, approach, and landing like other FC3 jets. In Enroute mode, WP1, WP2 and WP3 are the 1st 3 bottom lights respectively and according to manual, IRL Frog only holds 3 WPs, but in DCS you can go through more WPs, but just have to count them in your head for WP4 and beyond, it will cycle back to WP1 after the last one and the bottom left will light up again. When you hit 1 again it will go to return/approach mode and bottom right light will light along with 1 or 2 of the top left lights. Top left light is starting airfield and 2nd light top row is landing airfield, often they will just both light up. Hitting 1 one more time goes to landing mode and top left lights will stay on but bottom right will turn off. You can use your ADI needles for an ILS landing. You asked for non-obvious but SU-25T looks like a catfish, SU-25 is true Frogfoot. ;) ;) (confession I actually like the Su-25T too...but man it's the ugliest thing in DCS until the A-6 arrives :D)
Very nice crash course. I've been toying with the idea of getting back into DCS but just don't have the time to relearn a full fidelity plane right now and thought the frog might be a little more friendly, especially because I prefer A2G.
11:04 You can choose to drop 1,2,4,6, or 8 bombs at a time by pressing left ctrl and space and the time between each bomb by pressing v, which is better than whatever you were doing there, you can also wait for the aiming reticle to start moving like your aiming rockets which indicates that you can drop bombs in CCIP mode, this plane is a pretty good bomber if you know how to use it, you can use the anti runway chute retarded bombs as just regular chute retarded bombs dropping them from a very low altitude, but if you want to do anti runway strike from above 350 meters I recommend using the btetab 500s instead because they are a lot more accurate
I will do a flanker one but it will take time. For now what I can recommend is binding the fuel jettison button and defuel your plane until the 2nd light turns on in the fuel gauge. This means your nose, tail and wing tanks are out. Once the wing tanks are out you can pull a lot more AoA. :)
Awesome video! I've been getting into the Frogfoot lately and can confirm it's loads of fun. I do have a question - are the unguided rockets any good for killing tanks or should I just stick to the guided missiles for that? I saw there was a tank down there amongst the targets but I couldn't tell if it was one of the ones you attacked or not.

No, we actually do not allow trial only accounts on the server. This is a pretty common reason on the big servers because it cuts down on people who grief using throw-away accounts
Can you do a video how to find ground targets on the front line on your server? I flew most of the front line in the 25 but got shot down by my own team mate before finding anything on the ground 😂
When I re-do the how to play the server i will cover this but it will not be until January. In general, they are always in the first enemy held frontline sector
can you please exolain why you use the laser designator for rockets? i thoughts that rockets are unguided. or is it just to measure the "in range" factor?
I notice you got hit when you used your rockets and gun; is there a recommended standoff distance / altitude to avoid small arms fire? I feel like when I see real combat footage the aircraft tend to stay much further away from their targets, but they may also be missing much more often. I wish games made it clear what was considered standard procedure for stuff like that.
The laser target indicator will tell you when you are in range. That is the max distance. In DCS the AI will shoot and generally aim directly at your pilot so if you jink after it fires you will dodge it
Thanks, I wanted to learn and even printed a manual, but the game ran way too poorly on modern mid-high tier hardware so I gave up. I'll reconsider if they manage to fix their stuff.
The game does not run super well this is known. If you join our discord we may be able to help you to optimize your settings a bit so you can get it to a playable state.
Hey Enigma loving the cold war server so far and im having a blast in the su-25 but I see in this video that you got AA missiles on the froggy, but I don't seem to have that option on mine, any idea why? Or is it just the server?
We have different scenarios on the server. One is early cold war where the missiles are older and the Syria one is more mid-cold war where the Frogs get missiles.
PLEASE NOTE, I did not make this image, the credits are on the bottom of it. I forget how I found this but I've had it on my computer for a while. imgur.com/a/G39HsJm
A question why didn't you add su-25t to cold war server?? I know it dominate air to ground because it uses tv guided missiles and seads but you can turn them off in mission editor. Btw loved you sever and explanation.
I can do a LOT of damage with a Frogfoot. Not as much as I can do with the A10A, but close. Don't know why people don't like it. Well I guess I do, most people just want to CAP. Every public server I go on it's nothing but Fighters looking for bogeys, no one doing strikes. So none of those servers ever go anywhere because no one is doing anything to help. I always end up the only Warthog/Frogfoot ground pounding. Ending up taking out entire airfields one by one all by my damn self. People need to learn to Strike more and stop being so tunnel-visioned on dogfighting.
While the T version is still a non fidelity clickable, its like the A10 2 compared to the A10A. The base version doesn't just not have the TV, Vickers or anti radiation but other things too. the T version > SU25 base, ALL DAY
25T definitely has better / more modern systems and a wider array of weapons... but it doesn't fit in a Cold War scenario as it didn't exist until years after the Cold War was over. If you are playing on a "modern" battlefield, then obviously you'd want the updated systems / weapons (particularly the SEAD stuff). But if playing Cold War, the main benefit of the base model is that it's much lighter with a much better thrust-to-weight ratio... much quicker to accelerate and maneuver than the Su-25T or A-10. Granted, that's not needed a ton of the time when you are only around to attack ground targets, but it can come in handy. A few months ago I spend a good week or so gearing up on the base SU25 with the idea of playing on some Cold War servers... and when I jumped back into the 25T it felt like I went from a sports car to a minivan. Once you get a feeling for both of them, the better flight performance of the base model really does stand out. You can maintain energy or accelerate into some turns and Fox-2 shots in the base 25 that would be impossible in the 25T or A-10.
ALL DAY.... until you need to dog fight and your fat ass (due to the added weight of a camera system and jamming suites) gets knocked down a peg. Just because it has added features doesn't make it immediately better. Had the russians also given it more powerful engines to handle all the new stuff, maybe it'll be better then.
@@fastfed Some prototypes flew in the 80s, but they were test machines and not combat ready. By the time the few production Su-25T examples were being built, the Berlin Wall had already fallen. Based on the roughly mid-60s to mid-80s tech level of all the other available "Cold War" DCS modules, the 25T doesn't quite fit... as the Soviets lagged behind. So I totally get why it wouldn't be included on Enigma's server just for historical reasons... as they take that stuff somewhat seriously. On a more relaxed server, that places less emphasis on historical timelines, the 25T does make a nice counterbalance to the A-10A... which got most of it's laser guided munitions capabilities in the late 70s /early 80s.
dude there is no "multiplayer sim game", just DCS multiplayer. The notions of simulation and multiplayer are literally incompatible. In MP you cut any corner to get an advantage, but that is not a simulation. Just stop with the nonsense already.

An alternative could be the RedK0d mod actually, some things are clickable which is nice.
Amazing ability to stay in the air. You need at least one wing, a bit of the other, one engine and a live pilot. Plus fuel, that’s about it.
Few things I'd like to add:
Regarding use cases for the A-G guided missiles:
- S-25L - large HE warhead, very slow, fairly short ranged - buildings, tanks, bunkers
- KH-25ML - smallest warhead, very fast, requires precise aiming - SAMs and vulcans
- KH-29L - massive warhead, decent speed, good range - decent splash damage for unit groups, excels at hitting runways (huge craters)
- The mentioned launch override comes in handy for the 25ML and 29L as if you can precisely aim from further out, you can fire out of SAM launch ranges.

I feel like when I see real combat footage the aircraft tend to stay much further away from their targets, but they may also be missing much more often. I wish games made it clear what was considered standard procedure for stuff like that.
The laser target indicator will tell you when you are in range. That is the max distance. In DCS the AI will shoot and generally aim directly at your pilot so if you jink after it fires you will dodge it
Why use laser designator for unguided rockets and cannon?
Does laser designator also work as CCIP?
The laser can avoid you to shoot to close also it show optimal firing range for each unguided weapons.
Hello! How can u use the Czech "Froggy" skin? I cant use it looks like some renaming iassue but i couldnt figured it out.
Make sure your country is set to red taskforce and not a country. It will give you access to all the skins
@@Enigma89 It does'nt work, it says "Missing Texture"
Will the SU-25T ever be added to the server? But just remove its SEAD weapons for balance ofc
With ECM and IRCM you would still juggernaut other sams .
Hm, CZ flag on aircraft. Do you know "hrábě"?
Hi enigma what do you think of Mig 19P is it fun to fly and competitive on your server?
Yes I do but you are fighting at a disadvantage
Hey Enigma loving the cold war server so far and im having a blast in the su-25 but I see in this video that you got AA missiles on the froggy, but I don't seem to have that option on mine, any idea why? Or is it just the server?
We have different scenarios on the server. One is early cold war where the missiles are older and the Syria one is more mid-cold war where the Frogs get missiles.
@@Enigma89 ooh okay thanks for clearing that up
Got a download link for the RWR kneeboard screenshot?
PLEASE NOTE, I did not make this image, the credits are on the bottom of it. I forget how I found this but I've had it on my computer for a while. imgur.com/a/G39HsJm
Oh, it comes with the FC3 pack? I am dumb dumb, I bought it after I already had the FC3 pack...🙃
Can you fly the T on enigma though?
No sorry
A question why didn't you add su-25t to cold war server?? I know it dominate air to ground because it uses tv guided missiles and seads but you can turn them off in mission editor. Btw loved you sever and explanation.

i think the T and the A should be switched, the A should be free and the T should be in FC3.
please give us the r 60s back at least? :(
I can do a LOT of damage with a Frogfoot.

@@control_the_pet_population cold war was 85-91. I think the T model came out late 80's
Its not that hard at all i learned it in about 2.5 days!
😐
dude there is no "multiplayer sim game", just DCS multiplayer. The notions of simulation and multiplayer are literally incompatible. In MP you cut any corner to get an advantage, but that is not a simulation. Just stop with the nonsense already.
You can cut corners in real life too.
This plane looks utterly terrible 😅
Teaches everything you do not need at the beginning. Useless.
One of the worst su-25A tutorial ever i seen on youtube.
DCS - 750h only in su-25
